  1. Yeah, Williams himself probably won't make a huge difference, but depth is depth. The group as a whole can make a big impact though.
  2. Just thought I'd put our final 28 games in context to get the magic number to zero. I debated putting this in the "optimism thread", but here we go! If the Brewers just keep their current winning pace: 61.9% We would go 17-11 and finish with a record of 100-62. Just to tie the Brewers: The Dodgers need to go 23-5 (82.1%) The Cubs or Phillys would need to go 24-5 (82.7%) I like those odds.
  3. Not to knock your predictions, but Gute has become very predictable on who he brings in... most beat writers that were trying to predict waiver wire pickups or the practice squad simply listed a bunch of people that the Packers had on pre-draft visits that were now available. Almost a "water is wet" predictability these days.
  4. Interesting idea in using an OL for jet sweeps... 😂 John Williams is the one on the PUP list (and thus come back mid-season). Savon Williams is on the active 53 man list. 😉
  5. I just noticed that the Steelers and Jets open their seasons against each other. The battle of the QB swap! Will it be one man's trash is another man's treasure? Or just still trash?
  6. I highly doubt that we go into the season with 4 LBs. Pretty low risk of Welch being claimed, so I'd assume he (or another LB) are added to the roster once someone else goes on IR. The team now and the team at mid-season could be very different with Watson, Oliver, Williams, Monk, and Lloyd all potential IR/PUP returnees. Almost like having a mid-season trade.
  7. Which... is also very typical Vikings. Though, perhaps the Vikings depth isn't as good as I thought. I just saw that they kept 7 UDFA rookies this year. Wow!
  8. My point about Slaton's first couple of year's performance was more about potential development path of Stackhouse/Brinson. Right now, I'd bet on Brinson to make the 53-man over Stackhouse (maybe PS for him?). Wouldn't shock me to see a waiver wire claim either.
  9. I'm guessing the latter. JJ has barely played in the preseason; barely played last year... I'm surprised it is taking them this long. Frankly, JJ laying an egg could waste a pretty good team around him.
  10. Yeah, I can get this. They have a lot of key players with a wide range of potential results. Many looks like they could break out...or flop. Likewise with Love. We've seen his ceiling, but was it a flash in the pan or something he can maintain? Is injury prone going to be his monicker? I tend to think they will be above 500, but how much? Sadly, due to all the injuries early, we (at best) will be enduring another 3-4 game "preseason" in the season... Hope for some wins, but these games probably won't tell us much about the team.
  11. Megill and Uribe are two peas on a pod. It all comes down to control of their breaking pitch. Last year, Uribe didn't have it (even a bit early this season). Now Megill is struggling with it. Whomever is controlling their breaking pitch will get it done. Honestly... pretty much the same story as Devin Williams.
  12. Good representation of Sundays game... 😢
  13. Slaton had very poor technique as a rookie, thus he barely played any. He had to learn to use his girth and it wasn't until around year 3 that he really broke through. Edit: fact checking myself: Slaton had 25% and 32% of defensive snaps his first two years. But there were many times he was pushed back off the LOS in those early years. My biggest concerns about our DT is depth (if Clark is injured) or short yardage situations. Sounds like Brooks and Wooden have looked better against the run (though that is a low bar from where they started). Wouldn't shock me to see a waiver wire pickup here. He is the classic mauler style college T that the Packers often convert to guard due to athletic limitations. He played a bit of both for KC and Philly, but most indications had him more at guard. Especially with Philly trading for another backup T. Philly reporters seem to indicate he was a top backup at G. Morgan, Walker, Banks, Jenkins, Rhyan, and Tom are pretty clearly the top 6 - with both the top backup at C, G, and T in that top 6. Belton vs Kinnard might be a toss-up for next in line T, but I'm pretty sure Kinnard slots in ahead of Monk, Jennings, and Telfort. Honestly, for as much draft capitol we've spent on the OL, our depth is disappointingly thin.
  14. Packers set their sights on the Super Bowl after a pre-season trade! Ok, Kinnard might not have that much of an impact this year (at least hopefully not), but he has played on the last three Super Bowl winning teams. Time to make it a fourth! But seriously, I am glad to see Gute shoring up the roster with a trade. Seems like the Eagle's press is a bit bummed about their guard depth after this trade, so I take it he will be a decent G backup and emergency T.
  15. Maybe we will regret it, but I get the sense that Hafley's defense didn't need the big NT type. You have Wyatt and Brooks ascending the playing time ladder, which makes Slaton a "Clark or Slaton" type playing time decision. Also interesting to see Wooden re-intent himself this year... I thought for sure that he'd be cut this time. Ironically, Stackhouse and Brinson are exactly where Slaton was for his first two years - getting pushed around way too much for guys their size.
  16. Hopper is starting to look as fast and active as Walker, but is able to avoid blockers. He had a nice preseason. Simmons will probably make the team but I hope he never plays on defense. He is constantly lost out there. Keep him on ST. Morgan is going to be all over the place this year. Double-edged sword... he looks good at T or G, but his versatility might keep him from locking down a single spot. Willis might never become a top-end starting QB, but he is fun to watch play. His scrambling ability reminds me of a young Rodgers. Not a run-first type, but can escape trouble. I saw something very "odd" with Doubs out there. Heath made a catch and Doubs ran up to celebrate with him. Heath was busy celebrating himself, but completely blew off Doubs... despite Doubs standing right in front of him. Neither Stackhouse nor Brinson looked very good this year. They keep getting blown off the ball on short-yardage plays. The final CB spot will be interesting. They have a few guys that look like decent development guys. King was tackling very well. Hadden was out there hustling.
  17. I doubt anyone who plays professional football has a low tolerance for pain. JA had a lot of pride, but no idea how bad his knee really was.
  18. Sweating bullets, but I guess this is the definition of "effectively wild". 3 walks, but only 1 hit. 0 Runs is all that matters though.
