  1. I don't worry about production until AA. It's great to see lower but guys work on so much that is difficult to a real read on them. Especially in their first year of play
  2. I can see Ross being protected. He might even be on the MLB club next year. I'd someone like Suter or Wiesenburger gets picked if not protected
  3. Maybe I've not paid that much attention to signing bonuses in the past because I don't remember one that far out of line, even for seniors.
  4. Close, but not as close as you claim: From June 2008 (just before the CC Sabathia trade). 1.5 years before the Grienke trade: LaPorta Escobar / Salome Then 2 of any of these prospects: Gillespie, Cain, Brantley, Gwynn, Irribarren, Nelson, Lucroy, Brewer, Braddock or the Lefties in AAA and AA for Greinke and relief pitcher Or closer to the actual trade, but further from nailing it: Ive thought all along that Gavin Floyd would be the guy we most likely landed. If Melvin could somehow land Zack Greinke for a deal around Brett Lawrie our rotation goes from awful to exceptional.
  5. Dillard must return. Not for his pitching necessarily but because: 1) He is funny 2) Now its a tradition!
  6. Another way to look at it is the Grienke trade. If KC wanted MLB talent back, we would have balked at the trade. We needed our MLB talent because we were in "go for it" mode. We didn't have guys to spare. But we did give them a nice package of prospects for him. So, if other teams are playing hardball with asking for MLB talent in return, we might gain by going for something that is equally (or more so in the future) valuable but less sought after right now.
  7. My head just blew up. Thus, my house is available for rent.... I'll skip to the 5-tool part. No one was going to trade away Mike Trout, so we can take the A+ and maybe A guys out of the conversation. However, people have been willing to part with Jake Odorizzi. Twice. He was a B+ prospect. So, if the OP was correct that people are pushing for more MLB talented guys, there is less "competition" for a prospect in the A-/B+ range. Thus, if MLB team A has a few options to fill a 1B spot. And two teams are asking for MLB players, but we ask for a prospect (or two) for Adam Lind two things happen: 1) Its harder for the MLB team A to compare the offers. If all teams are asking for prospects, its easier to gauge the packages. If only we are asking for prospects, it gives us an advantage to ask for more. 2) We give them another option. Flexibility. Someone else's shortsightedness can be our benefit. Remember that the OP said that it was the sellers asking for MLB talent and not the buyers wanting to give up MLB talent. So if we give them the option, we might get a better deal. Of course, we have to be smart about what we are asking for too. We don't just ask for one C level guy if another team is getting MLB level players.
  8. Question on Allemand signing for $40k: I realize the guy is a senior, but how does the disparity get that bad? Was this a pre-negotiated deal? Or did the Brewers just do a "screw you, you're a senior" move? I didn't think he was drafted so far out of slot that $40k would have made sense.
  9. “It's a seller's market, so there are fewer teams that are looking to trade established major league players for prospects,” So in a true "Moneyball" mentality, might it be wise to attempt the opposite? When the market was trying to get prospects, that established a higher demand and dried up the supply. So now that the demand is on MLB players, would we have a better selection of prospects to choose from? Is the failure stated above because people settled for middling prospects included in trades in the past?
  10. The 30 second bonus confused me also... I only caught 1/2 of the semi finals and the finals, so I never heard the explanation of the bonus. Seems more like a mandated timeout. One side effect (which I think is a good thing) is that endurance and stamina are going to play a big part in the winners from now on. Sorry Prince, no more waiting an hour between swings. Tip of the hat to Albert Pujols and the interaction with Joc Pederson's brother (and the interview during Pujols' timeout). And Chris Berman drove me nuts after 5 minutes... ugh, he is annoying. He also needs some help with trajectories... he was wrong on quite a few non-HRs. I think he just went into frenzy mode at the end HR or not... But Frazier's near miss at the end of regulation and final HR on the first pitch of the bonus was a pretty good way to end the competition. Even if I was routing for Joc.
  11. I have a few friends that think we "win" if we can reach .500 this season because they are entertained when we win. Personally, I'm entertained by: 1) Watching our young talent develop (i.e. the Bucks last year). 2) Building a championship caliber team (i.e. the Badgers BB last year) 3) Racing sausages Yes, its nice to win, but continued mediocrity leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I don't want to tank, but I'm fine with targeting #1 (and #3) for this year so we can target #2 in the next years. A .500 team from a young team that is growing together (i.e. the Bucks again) is exciting. From an aging team that doesn't have a future together... not so much.
  12. There are plenty of threads on trades. So beyond that, what are you going to see in the second half? I want to see: Jungmann, Fiers, Peralta, and Nelson have priority for SP spots Wait until next year for Arcia Hernan starts at 3B.
  13. Thanks for clarifying. Yours was the first dissenting opinion that I've seen on Gatewood, so I was curious what drove it.
  14. Demuth is an older player for A ball. He hits for average, but light on power
  15. I don't think too much of Gatewood either Just curious what drives this opinion?
  16. Yeah, i was wondering if signing Galiano was a consession losing McDowell
  17. I'll get chastised once again but look at FA last year that got QO: [sarcasm]But you promised![/sarcasm]
  18. I guess we should accept a move like this that is clearly about the future instead. Seems more about the money than the future. Getting a second back is pretty minimal. ZaZa was really their only "thumper" center. This seems to really limit their flexibility. Would be nice to rest Monroe and have the option to go small (Hansen) or big (Zaza) depending on who they are playing.
  19. You are under contract and don't get paid? How does that work? I realize that each level gets paid a different salary, but I'm surprised that there is a "no pay" level...
  20. Any more on Max McDowell? Seems like he could be useful from an organization need point of view.
  21. I knew the College WS was done weeks ago, so it was the medical part that was getting me worried now. I would expect that would be the only thing that would keep the Brewers from signing him; something uncomfortable in the medical report...just re-pick next year.
  22. Its kind of frustrating to see everyone making their own rules for eligibility... reillymcshane might not have it "perfect", but for what we are doing it seems like people could just simply follow along so we have and apples to apples comparison... There have already been multiple people rate Jungmann high and drop Tyrone Taylor waaaay down. Hard to believe 30innings at the MLB level makes you a highly touted prospect, but some slight struggle at AA(hardest level to many) just kills your value. People really liking performance/stats over potential/projectability. Obviously for us arm-chair GMs, production is easier to judge. However, I think that when you hit AA or AAA, production really does need to start taking precedent. I took a lot of flack for ranking Khris Davis over Kentrail Davis for the same reason. Its fine in A ball, but at AA or AAA, you need to start producing or you never make it to the show. Also, my goal is to rank a players success at the MLB level. So Jungmann succeeding at the MLB level lowers the risk of his potential. Plus, I always was a bit higher on him than others. Nor did his AAA really change my opinion of him. A couple comments about his performance in the MiLB (i.e. coaching on him for pitching around someone) make me think he might do better at the MLB level. I think he thrives on the freedom and competition of MLB ball. Taylor hasn't really done anything offensively since leaving his rookie ball. And while that could come around because he is still young, lots of questions swirl about his ability to stay in CF defensively. If he can't cut CF, he is a 4th OFer or maybe a Parra type. That risk drops him in my eyes. A weak performance at AA this year just amplifies that concern.
  23. outfield of Stokes-Harrison-Clark next year, and maybe even Gatewood and Lara playing side by side on the left of the infield That would be fun to watch!
