  1. I'm pretty surprised at all the negative comments on Bradley myself. Nelson did very much the same thing a couple years ago (drop in velocity, not great results) and was at A-ball at the time. Now look at where he is. I'd still keep Bradley up in the top 10 myself (or close at least).
  2. Pretty much from the time he was signed, ColbyJack said Prince wouldn't stick at SS and that he was a 2B/3B. And he does see them in person.
  3. There were reports that he was too weak to play LF even... That was pretty early. I believe he had some surgery issue early on. BTW, welcome to the KH bandwagon everyone. I would think Braun could play RF or perhaps Khris will move to 1B. As for the "user P50", I'm still going to hold off until mid-August (as I planned) so we can see these guys a couple weeks in the system.
  4. Question for the everyone: When is he "For real" in your opinion? IMO: Right now, he qualifies as a legit MLB starter. Rest of this year with a sub 4 ERA to say he is a legit #3 SP. At least a full year of sub 3 ERA to say he is a legit #1.
  5. Wow and WOW... Its so good that it almost looks fake.
  6. "That and the fact that he has been pretty bad every year prior to this one". (Y should this matter if we are talking 2012 Midseason?) Because more often than not, someone that suddenly pitches (or hits) way above their historical levels will eventually regress back. That isn't everyone, as the occasional "light goes on" and someone does drastically improve. But that would be the exception and not the norm. Results aren't the most important things for minor league players, though. Especially pitchers. For A-ball and below, I'd agree. But once you get to AA or AAA, potential must turn into production. Someone who can't get AA hitters out isn't going to get a crack at the MLB level.
  7. The walks aren't the issue. The issue is that he's 25 years old at double-A with a very low amount of IP there. Lists like Sickels' or Baseball America take age/level into consideration. That and the fact that he has been pretty bad every year prior to this one. I've been impressed quite a bit by Burgos' success this year (I was an early skeptic this year after being on his bandwagon 2 years ago). As far as scouting goes (in the "Top X lists"), he is always going to be looked down upon for his lack of FB speed or any plus pitch. He doesn't seem to have the movement that Fiers has also (limited scout info in the minors, but...). If he can keep this up this year and in AAA next year, he will really start to get some notice. But until then, he has too much history of poor pitching to just forget it all without some indication of what specifically changed.
  8. Its only a waste if you think this is lightning in a jar and it won't happen again. I don't think that Fiers is going to remain sub 3.00 ERA (not many pitchers do). But I've held for a long time that he has a good chance to be better than only a 5th SP. What this season has allowed Fiers is the chance to prove to the Brewers that he is a viable option for an SP. That is a chance he wouldn't have been afforded on last year's staff. So, IMO, its not a waste at all.
  9. Yet some here want to get rid of that offensive punch and play a career .237/.294/.274/.568 in AAA catcher? Where did you get those numbers? Looking at milb.com, he had AAA OPSes of: 2009: 738 2010: 735 2011: 948 2012: 617 I didn't go through the effort of calculate his total AAA numbers, but I'm pretty sure that with an OPS greater than 568 every year, adding them all together won't come up with 568...
  10. I don't really think we should buy, but if we don't sell, and we actually think we have a chance, we need a shortstop of some kind. Whether buying or selling, getting a younger SS with potential is a good idea.
  11. I wonder if this will effect next Saturday's game. It's on FOX and it's scheduled to be a Sutton/Schroeder reunion for the call. They're going to have to put all those extra BucketHead t-shirts back into mothballs.
  12. So, with Maldonado getting most of the starts, is it possible he wins the backup catcher job when Lucroy comes back? Its possible that Kottaras and Maldonado both stick around, but it seems that Martin has outplayed George to this point (as a catcher at least).
  13. A little worse than last year, yes. "Much worse" and "isn't near the level" simply isn't true. Plus, he started very slow and is heating up quickly.
  14. Schafer isn't performing at near the level he did in AAA last year... Might want to check again: 2011: 315/385/439/824 2012: 303/357/465/822 Thats pretty close to the same.
  15. SAVE: Jeff Urlaub (1) Pointless thought to think: Urlaub means Vacation in German
  16. If all players had to go to college or some secondary league before being drafted you could have like only 3 minor league levels total and players would move more quickly to MLB as you'd be drafting all 21-22 year old players that had already established a track record of success against "elite" competition. They wouldn't need 40 rounds to fill out MiLB rosters either... Except college BB would be very different. You would have a LOT more colleges playing BB (maybe UW-Madison could start again). I would guess that it would simply mean drafting nearly the same number of players out of a lot more levels of competition in college (after the initial 3-4 years at least).
  17. Reed splitting time at Helena isn't a concern. Yes, they have a lot of bodies, but there is too much invested into him to sit him half the time. Nor have the Brewers shown the tendency to do something like that. One other part of his development that we forget (beyond his skills) would be his HS to pro-sports "conversion". They do handle the kids a little differently (host families, etc..) at Rookie ball than in A-ball. I'm not sure about his maturity level, but learning to handle yourself in a professional manner is a skill also. Plus mixing a 19yo with 21/22yo at A+ might cause some problems with under-age drinking. Not that it couldn't happen now, but when all your buds are going out legally and you can't, its added pressure.
  18. It was quite obvious that lots of balls were flying out of the park that day also... But he really lost his control that last inning. All three of those HRs were belt high FBs right over the plate. But I saw nothing that said he couldn't be a SP at the MLB level.
  19. Sweet! New signature line!
  20. Major hat-tip to everyone contributing. You have done a great job!
  21. I was just comparing Fiersand Marcum'spitch FX and found out that Fiers is actually a faster pitcher than Marcum...
  22. There was a bunch of discussion about him wanting $3-4M to sign... then the Brewers offered $1.5M, he wanted $2M... finally signed close to the deadline. All while making some comments that didn't endear him to the general populous here. Granted most of the loudest complaints were by people who didn't like the pick to begin with. Some of that is here and the next page. Finally found the linkI was slightly remembering... Texas' Taylor Jungmann won Dick Howser Trophy Tuesday morning. He's a lock to sign with Brewers but said, "We'll see." Warned of assuming.
  23. I'm sure he has thinks to work on, but I don't see how it's a "given." Because it was part of some plan? You nailed it when you suggested we need scouting reports. Honestly, I don't remember when Reed was called up (I only get spurts to be on the board anymore). But I'm guessing it was due to an injury replacement. So, knowing how the Brewers tend to develop players, knowing that Reed hit poorly at AZ last year (in a bigger sample size than Brevard so far), knowing that the scouting reports on Reed are going to trump a few ABs, that is why I think its a given. The hole in the information that we don't really know is the scouting reports. Does the guy have a hole in his swing that the A+ pitchers haven't exploited (yet)? Maybe not and he sticks around A+ ball or is only demoted to A ball. That would be great. But I would say the chances are low of that, IMO. He's 20 years old and we payed well over slot to pick him in the 5th round last year. For one, he is 19 (turns 20 in Nov). So, he would be pretty young for the typical A-baller. Not that age is important, but the Brewers do tend to take it slower with their HS draft picks in rookie ball and jump their college draft picks faster. Not saying its write or wrong, just using the Brewer's norm to guess where Reed will end up.
  24. Guys, it has been all of like 8 games. I was wondering how many it was after reading all of this. I think the thing we tend to miss is that these players generally have parts of their game to work on and a plan to achieve it. Going back to Helena is probably a given.
  25. If they don't fall under the same rules, the yanks could go try to lure a few guys with strong college commitments.
