  1. A player's peak years are generally between 27 and 32. That's a generally held principle for baseball based solely on hitting. Rarely are people faster at age 30 than at age 20...
  2. I'm not sure who really needs to be at the A-ball level would push Miller out either. Chances are slim that he will make an MLB SP. But he still needs the innings to develop his control. I only pick on you because you can handle it. [sarcasm]How dare you question the omniscient CheezWiz![/sarcasm] Maybe my standards of "dominant" are a bit too high. Its a great issue to have Peralta put up those numbers and still have him be 4th among our minor league pitchers. I didn't mean to infer he was pitching like a middling starter. He just is a step behind the other 3. His telling stat that I tend to watch is the number of walks he gives up. He did a great job in decreasing that last year. But they are back up this year so far.
  3. JSOnline had a great picture for the cover story: http://media.jsonline.com/images/27758687-mjs_brewers18_23_of_hoffman(2).jpg_brewers18(2).jpg
  4. Bradley gets my nod right now because he has simply been dominant. Thornburg and Nelson are close. Nelson has been the pleasant surprise of the season, however, I was picking up on his improvement late last year. Gagnon has been good, but I'm worried he is dominating low A pitchers with a good FB and that is it. But not all of our college level pitchers have done that even. Peralta and Jungmann have been good, but not dominant.
  5. I remember catching the game on the radio for the last few innings. I remember Bob and Pat sounding "unusual" that evening. Seemed like at the end of each inning, they were much more "abrupt" about information they normally shared. But I do remember picking up on what was happening somehow.
  6. What a brilliant start tonight by the guy who most people on here think should be brought back for big bucks next season (When he'll be another year older at that) [sarcasm]As will Gallardo, Marcum and Grienke. Lets get rid of all the bums due to one bad night! (which they've all had)[/sarcasm]
  7. I think he hurt his wrist. Not a season killer. Broken hamate bone isn't a good thing, though. He won't be fully recovered this year, I would imagine. And he will need to hit at Wisconsin before he gets to BC.
  8. I've seen in a couple spots that we have the 38th draft pick as compensation for Fielder. At first, I thought the order wasn't set because FA was still happening, but now I see we still have the 38th pick: Supplemental 1st Round 32 Minnesota Twins Compensation for the Rockies signing Michael Cuddyer, modified Type A . 33 San Diego Padres Compensation for the Marlins signing Heath Bell, modified Type A. 34 Oakland Athletics Compensation for the Twins signing Josh Willingham, modified Type A. 35 New York Mets Compensation for the Marlins signing Jose Reyes, Type A. 36 St. Louis Cardinals Compensation for the Angels signing Albert Pujols, Type A. 37 Boston Red Sox Compensation for the Phillies signing Jonathan Papelbon, Type A. 38 Milwaukee Brewers Compensation for the Tigers signing Prince Fielder, Type A. So how is it that Cuddyer, Bell, Willingham, Reyes, and Papelbon all rank higher than Fielder for the compensation round?
  9. Perhaps when he is no longer a senator, he will push harder for a new arena. I always got the impression he was afraid to upset his constituents...
  10. only reason i went there was for the sports blogs, now with the paywall, i just go elsewhere. that is a very low hurdle to avoid... I haven't seen that limitation message in months.
  11. At least, RR didn't put him at clean-up to keep everyone else in their "regular" spots...
  12. and it doesn't take long to find out what you missed while you were working. You need to get your priorities re-aligned so you don't miss anything.
  13. Mat may play a role in this as well as he seems to be a pretty laid back guy. Maybe his first name should be "Joe", except for the nasty cigarette image it would convey. He looks good so far. Defensively, he looks like a natural 1B (stretching for balls, etc..) so that is nice to see that he looks comfortable.
  14. I just want to throw in that I am very sorry for any misspelling or grammatical issues. I am an engineer, not a writer. I don't believe it... you don't speak in acronyms! I graduated with the orange tassel myself.
  15. Now that I have the spreadsheet setup, doing a user-driven P50 isn't a problem. Its all cut-n-paste now. And I agree that June 1 would be a good time to start.
  16. Maybe Ozzie needed a LOOGY and remembered that Castro was a LH pitcher back in the day. Those lefties always get a second chance...
  17. Bucks are 1 game behind the Knicks. They play at the Bradley Center and the Knicks just lost to the Bulls last night. So the Bucks are fresh and the Knicks are on their second game in a row. If the Bucks can't win this one, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
  18. I agree with Crew07. He is in the Seth Linz category right now. There is some hope, yet, but its not looking good. Maverick might get another chance as an SP, but it wouldn't surprise me if they moved him to the pen to try to get something out of him.
  19. Don't forget Jamie Quirk (Brewer for all of 1 season) They can have him. I want my 1987 and 1992 back! (There were very few good years back then).
  20. Its really bugging me the high numbers of former Brewers the Cubs have on the coaching staff... Sveum, Bosio, Listache... man, its like growing up with the Brewers again... except the are on the Cubs.
  21. As I'm sitting here listening to the game, it occurred to me that he seems to have a much more "formal" approach to calling the game. More business like. I think we are so used to the heavy personality approach, like Uecker and Matty V, or the relaxed, casual types like Provus and Schroeder, its just unusual. And by formal, I mean that he enunciates well, doesn't use slang, uses "bigger" words. He could be on 60 minutes if he wasn't in baseball. More of a formally trained reporter than a former player thrown in front of a mike. Brewer's BB is at its best when you can get Ueck and whomever playing off each other well. he was more than a wind-up hyena towards Uke bingo! edit - explain "formal"
  22. There also will be a racial test in this. Let’s be honest. Barry Bonds was despised for so long, and if Braun is forgiven, it won’t look right. Maybe saying nothing with a smile is better than saying nothing with a snarl, but it’s hard to overlook that the MVP failed a performance-enhancing drug test and never even had to explain himself. Wow... Not sure what race had to do with any of that. People don't like Mark McGuire for the same reason. Nor Jose Canseco or Sammy Sosa. Its just that none of them broke the all-time HR record (of Hank Aaron) while under the suspicion of PEDs. How many drug tests did Bonds have to take? I'm sure its far less than Braun has taken already, if any at all.
  23. I have to imagine Uecker and Hughes were a good match as well. Yes they were. I grew up too far from Milwaukee to see many baseball games (1 or 2 prior to graduating HS), but listened to MANY games on the radio.
  24. He does need to loosen up a little and join in the banter with Uecker. Provus & Powell were great at that. I had the feeling the Provus laughed at EVERYTHING Uecker said like he was front row at a stand up routine. Now, sometimes I can understand it some times, when Ueck is on a role. Other times, I wondered if it was written in his contract. He left me thinking, "Why are you giggling like a school girl at that?" I miss Powell. Ueck and Powell were really good. I've only heard a little of Block, so I'll reserve comment until later.
