  1. It doesn't seem that long ago when R.J. Seidel was the Brewers 16th round pick in the 2006 draft does it? I've been following the young man since his prep days at La Crosse-area Central HS. So maybe it seems longer to me. Hope he can finally stay healthy and make some hay this year.
  2. Was that low throw by Gonzalez tonight Gamel's first attempt at a scoop this year? There was one this weekend where the Ueck (obviously, I didn't see it) was very excited over a Gonzalez->Gamel play. Gonzalez ranged quite a ways to get the ball and threw low where Gamel scooped it out. Bob was pretty impressed and said, "Great play! ... on both ends".
  3. Starting the season slowly to a division rival...
  4. Wow! I caught a little of the guy early on and didn't think he was too bad (deluded, yes ). Didn't see the rest of that...
  5. Thanks for sharing Kalle8. Really a touching story.
  6. You didn't see the typo... Fielder has an OPS of 666. Just an observation...
  7. I just saw it today also (probably jazzy's thread bump). But in reading the first line, I couldn't get past that he would resign days before the season started... But I've been reeled in before...
  8. I'll second that. I just had a Salome flash-back...
  9. Wouldn't they come out of things with egg on their face if they traded him for an A/AA prospect or two right now? Of course they would. And if they traded him for Trout, they would look brilliant. No one is advocating that they make a trade, just to get rid of him. They still have to make a "good" trade... But if someone had a need for a closer and came knocking with a deal that fills a long term need (like at SS as TLB suggested), I wouldn't have an issue flipping K-Rod. These type of trades rarely happen this early in the season anyway. If the Red Sox start to struggle closing games and their closer is going to be out for a while and NYY is pulling away from them... then they might come knocking.
  10. The problem is that there is no selling high on K-Rod in my view. In the OP, the idea was broached because of the Red Sox's closer getting injured. Thus, need creates demand. I don't think anyone thinks we should be "shopping" K-Rod. But if someone comes knocking...
  11. Is MLB.TV for Roku the same price ($20/month?) as the online version? I'm assuming it has the same black-out issues, too, right? I live 4+ hours from Milwaukee and I'm always blacked out. That is pretty silly.
  12. I suppose I was thinking about it incorrectly. This is normal for him.
  13. Everyone is tradeable for the right price. Generally, there are only a couple people per team (Braun), where the "right price" is ridiculous. K-Rod isn't one of those. Its nice to have the 8th and 9th locked down, but K-Rod isn't Mr. Automatic anymore. And he pitches in the BP (~70 innings of impact). If they can get a good return, they would be foolish to hang on to him.
  14. C Patrick Arlis -- 31-year-old Who else will they use to bounce around the farm system?
  15. I sure hope that Tommy Toledo makes the MLB club at some point and I'm there to hear Uecker make the call. Something tells me it would be quite memorable.
  16. Interesting. When healthy, he was pretty darn good. And he did pitch fairly well at the MLB level before completely succumbing to injuries... Sure, we would like more, but hardly a candidate for "All-Disappointment". I can't really count an career ended in injury as a disappointment, unless the person was already injury prone prior to being drafted.
  17. The following commercials bug me: You had me at "commercials"...
  18. I don't recall putting "automatically" anywhere in regards to Roger's health. 50% and 1% are just made up numbers (and 50% is far from automatic...). If you read back awhile, I'm actually advocating that we move him to the BP for a year or two. Limit his innings so he has a "better chance" of staying healthy. Anyone pitching him 3 days in a row would be fired immediately. Then after demonstrating he can stay healthy there, you can revisit him starting again. First goal with him should be to stay healthy.
  19. That's just silly... everyone knows that Lucroy is the Episode 1-3 generation. He wouldn't care about Wolf's Episode 4-6 collection.
  20. If they do make the playoffs they will most likely play Chicago. Not only will Chicago win pretty easily, but Chicago fans will fill up the BC. I'm not sure that is necessarily a good thing for this franchise. Agreed. I don't think they match-up against the Bulls well at all. Miami just gives me that vibe that they would take the Bucks very lightly in the playoffs and could be a surprise upset. First round of the playoffs is still best of 5, right? Best of 7, they probably don't have a chance...
  21. So what did you do when you heard he was re-signed?
  22. If the owners have to dip into their own pockets, or take out additional loans to pay for going "all-in" this year, then they are going to want to show a profit in future years. I don't have a link, but didn't we end up in the black last year after going "all-in"? I get the feeling we did and that has allowed Mark A the flexibility to stretch the budget much higher than any of thought they would already... Not sure how any of us can know how much more they are willing to go or if they are already over-budget.
  23. It fits in because you have to compare the value of a starting pitcher vs a middle reliever. If he succeeds as a starter this year and can hold down the #5 spot in 2013, he's much more valuable to the team than if he is a 6th or 7th inning reliever. Relievers are a lot easier to find that starters and a lot cheaper too. So why move Rogers to middle relief when he still has a viable shot at being a somewhat successful starting pitcher? Beside, it's not like if he fails at starting this season he can't move to the bullpen next season. Everyone agrees that SPs are more valuable than RPs. But I think most people are saying that Rogers has a 1% chance of staying healthy as an SP and a 50% chance as an RP it makes more sense to put him as an RP. If he is injured, he has no value. Its not a matter of succeeding or failing as an SP anymore. Its about staying healthy.
  24. Chris Dickerson 2008 122 162 CIN .304 .413 .608 1.021 [sarcasm]I knew we gave up on him too soon![/sarcasm]
  25. We have established that most people would rather have the Bucks "tank" this year, myself included. Their chances of the playoffs and kind of low and if they make it, we are hoping they will win a game or two before bowing out in the first round. So what would have to happen (short of a miracle) for the Bucks to gel and pull an upset in the playoffs? Sure, its all conjecture and unlikely, but at least its positive thinking. 1) Stop the streaky play. Every single one of our starters has had hot (even white hot) and cold streaks over several games. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be hot together. 2) Run and Run. The Bucks seem to have a lot of decent talent, but no star talent. We often get beat with our first team and catch up with the seconds. So we need to keep the uptempo to force the other teams to use a deeper bench, where we get an advantage. 3) Defense. Some games seem like they get it, other times they look like wet tissue paper. With Gooden at C and Ellis at SG, I don't think we have a chance to be very good here (like a couple years back in the playoffs), but they have to be decent. If all three of those things gel together, I can see them upsetting a Miami in the playoffs. Sure its a long, long shot, but...
