  1. If draft picks in rounds 11-40 have a max of $100k bonus (without effecting the 1-10 pick pool), where do undrafted players fall? Same limit ($100k) or maybe less?
  2. Nyjer probably could get consideration just from all the fan interactions, Chris Carpenter, etc...
  3. "It will be a tough decision," Posturing by a player who has been well educated by his agent. Seems like a few every year say something like this. Didn't Jungmann last year? I really doubt the Brewers picked him without a pretty confident idea about his intentions. Second that.
  4. Also, does anybody know if there is a soft cap on picks 11-40? they can be signed for $100k. Anything above is added on the 1-10 pick cap.
  5. After reading about Mr. 3TO in the minor leagues and a few other choice names in that thread, I decided it would be interesting to fill-out the "All BF.net discussion team". These are guys that have generated the most discussion on BF.net. I'm going to throw out the "resign/extension" type discussions to be more in favor of: "his elbow is too high" "His defense isn't really that bad" and anything rhyming with Man-yon. So, basically, the ones that didn't add too much to the team, but added oh, so much to this board for discussion... So, vote for your favs, just make sure he wore a Brewer's uni at least once: DH: Branyon - the reason this idea exists 1B: Overbay - we will never know if he can play LF... 2B: Ginter - I was sure he was a diamond in the rough. SS: Yuni - No (more) comments needed. 3B: Wes Helms - I thought about McGehee here, but they were nearly the same player... C: WHOA SOLVVD - Legend LF: Kevin Mensch - actually, no one was impressed with his play, but that big melon was worth a few words... CF: Chris Dickerson - ok, it was a short but verbose stay with the Brewers; Including an avatar that stayed longer than he did. RF: Gabe Gross - Looks like Josh Butler will top out at AAA, so looks like we should have kept Gross after all. SP: Suppan - One for the ages. SP: Wes Obermueller - yes, I'll admit to being a supporter... SP: Ruben Quevedo - Thought we stole one from the Cubs. RP: Joe Winkelsas - feel good stories always print well. Too bad we didn't feel good for too long. RP: Brooks Kieschnick - he was like a Branyon that could pitch... RP: Daniel Ray Herrera - only lasted 1.2 innings, but lots of MB used to store the comments on him last summer... CL: Turnbow (remember the icons of the bow that spun back and forth?)
  6. The power is real as he did set a BC Manatee HR record last season Morris' 18HRs didn't impress me as much as Khris Davis' 17 HR in half the games... Granted, Morris has looked pretty decent this year. A tick better on the plate discipline also. As for the next one, I'll plan on one for mid-August. Then we can have a wrap-up version after the AFL.
  7. Biggest gaps occurred between Jed Bradley -> Scooter Gennett (108 points) and Jorge Lopez->Yadiel Rivera (103 points). Jimmie Nelson, Taylor Jungmann, Wily Peralta, and Jed Bradley were all very tightly scored: 664 points (Nelson) to 648 points (Bradley). Compare that to Thornburg at 697 and Gennett at 540. (Or Mike Walker at 35).
  8. If there is no number in front of the name, that means they are tied with the person ahead of them. [pre]Rank Name 1 Tyler Thornburg 2 Jimmie Nelson 3 Taylor Jungmann 4 Wily Peralta 5 Jed Bradley 6 Scooter Gennett 7 Logan Schafer 8 Caleb Gindl 9 Jorge Lopez 10 Yadiel Rivera 11 Kyle Heckathorn 12 Brooks Hall 13 Hunter Morris 14 Nick Bucci 15 Orlando Arcia 16 Santo Manzanillo 17 Michael Fiers 18 Cody Scarpetta 19 Taylor Green 20 Khris Davis 21 Drew Gagnon 22 Chris McFarland 23 Ruben Ozuna Max Walla 25 Andy Moye 26 Kentrail Davis 27 Nick Ramirez 28 Michael Reed 29 D'Vontrey Richardson Tommy Toledo 31 Gian Rizzo 32 Cameron Garfield 33 Mark Rogers 34 Osmel Perez 35 Rob Wooten 36 Eric Arnett 37 Brandon Kintzler 38 Hiram Burgos 39 Evan Anundsen 40 David Goforth 41 Alan Williams 42 Matt Miller 43 Raul Mondesi Jr. 44 Sthervin Matos 45 Joel Dicent 46 Lee Haydel 47 Tyler Roberts Daniel Meadows 49 Austin Ross 50 Mike Walker[/pre]
  9. I remember there was a similar outcry a few years back when the Brewers had a major hole of 3B in the system. And they drafted 2 in the top 4 rounds including the 3rd 3B of the draft with the 5th pick overall. I can't complain about the 2005 draft, even though neither Braun nor Gamel stuck at 3B. But at least Taylor Green (25th round) stuck at 3B...
  10. You're being generous, it was a C- at best. More like a B. Your words have great power potential and your defense of ideas was also strong. But sentence structure is a little weak. I think you need to hold your elbow higher when you write. Granted, I based all of that on one post that I read...
  11. I'll counter with a former 1st rounder in Brett Lawrie who some may or may not like, but who has never been accused of not playing hard every single day, almost going over the top at times. I've accused him of that personally. I only saw him in one game at a 'Rattlers game, but wow did he take that day off defensively. Hustle and effort really eluded him, at least on that day.
  12. After the 10th round, teams are limited to $100K bonuses. Those bonuses do not count against the bonus pool. Any dollar amount over $100K counts against the bonus pool. In essence, the "slot" value of every pick from round 11 to 40 is $100K. So if Buck Farmer signed for $300K (3rd/4th round money), he would cost the Brewers $200K from their bonus pool. I couldn't remember the exact details when I asked it, but that is about what I understood... So my original question would be: Do we think that Buck Farmer and Adam Giacalone will sign for the $100k slot or are these guys that we would need to go over slot (i.e. $200k out of the bonus pool to give them a $300k bonus) to sign? First the DFE guys were drafted here (mid to late teens). Then it was the draft and sign overslot. Now, I'm wondering if the Brewers were trying to still do something similar. I don't think the last bit is quite true. If one of the picks from the first ten rounds doesn't sign, that pick's slot value is removed from the pool the team has to spend. That is too bad. Seems like a fair deal that if someone up front bows out and goes to college, that you have a chance to recover by giving a bit more to a later pick to entice him away. Kind of like drafting "backup" 3-4th round picks.
  13. That is why we do this all together: http://images.despair.com/products/demotivators/meetings.jpg
  14. "He gave up curling to focus on baseball." Does he throw underhand? Umpires love him, because he brings his own broom to sweep off home plate. If he was a pitcher, I'd bet he throws an awesome slider! Ok, I'm done.
  15. I also have to say I agree with Greinke's comment that we should draft more hitters, fewer pitchers. If we get hitters to AAA, we can always trade them for pitching. That's ironic, because I've always heard that its more "expensive" to trade for pitching than hitting...
  16. Buck Farmer and Adam Giacalone both sound like guys the Brewers previously drafted in the mid-teens, but signed to overslot deals (like Scooter Gennett). But the new rules won't allow much of a bump unless someone early in the draft doesn't sign... So any idea if these guys are "insurance" against a 4-5th rounder from signing? Or is there a legit chance at signing them to 15th/16th round money?
  17. These mixed reactions remind of the Prince pick. Which is ironic, since he was a Prince comp pick.
  18. I'll try to post results on Thursday night. I'm out for the weekend and things seem to be slowing a bit. Sadly, work has been so hectic lately, I'm not going to get a chance to post my own...
  19. I wonder how things would have unfolded if they have let Peralta start instead of Estrada. [sarcasm]Actually, it was a butterfly in China that flapped its wings to the north. If it had flapped to the south, Peralta would be our ace starter right now....[/sarcasm] Peralta has been having control issues all year. 2011 AA: 119.2 IP, 8.8 K/9, 3.61 BB/9 2011 AAA: 31.0 IP, 11.6 K/9, 3.19 BB/9 2012 AAA: 54.0 IP, 7.33 K/9, 5.33 BB/9 Now, I'm not sure what has caused him to be wilder this year than last (and really more than any significant sample he has had yet) - some are questioning injury. But I'm pretty sure this recent bout of really poor play is more likely to be caused by his wildness than his 1 IP stint in the bigs.
  20. Our new uber-prospect SS Carlos Belonis will hopefully show his metal. It would be really cool if we had a cyborg shortstop. Did I mess up the phrase or are you just going on a related tangent? Mettle. [sarcasm]You really shouldn't medal like that...[/sarcasm]
  21. Cripes I can't believe I forgot Harvey I also forgot Burgos... Go ahead an modify your original post if you want to. I'm not actually doing anything with the lists until its closed...
  22. I don't think anything could replace what those guys did. Not sure if that is completely gone, but I know some of the moderators that handled that in the past have had some changes and are less able to contribute like they have in the past, so us amateurs try to chip in.
  23. In Fier's start, did anyone get any speed readings on his pitches?
  24. I'll second Crew's opinion on Heckathorn. Anundsen I see as a McClendon type BP arm (granted, I haven't paid much attention to him this year, so old opinion there). I don't think its much of a stretch to project Arnett into the MLB BP. I wouldn't rush him to AA, however. He really isn't dominating at Brevard (which is a pitcher's league anyway) and I'm sure he could use the confidence boost of succeeding for a bit.
  25. I've been so busy, I haven't had much chance to follow the Brewers lately. So it was quite a surprise to see Fiers (ok, I kind of knew that one), Maldonado, and Conrad all in the box last night! But Fiers and Maldonado are two of the "underdogs" in our system that I enjoy following. Great job guys!
