  1. If a player knows that he can no longer stand up to the strain of starting all season, but when rested can dominate, and a team is willing to pay him for a half-season's work, then I'm all for the player doing it. Would you please stop interrupting our ranting with logic!
  2. I've had 2 separate Charter techs tell me the stuff from Speedtest works well. They use it when someone upgrades to the 100mb service and they don't get the 100mb. After running the IP Optimizer, they say they do get the 100mb. Man, do you have to rub it in??? I was so happy just to get 10Mbs...
  3. OF: Glenn Braggs: Perhaps the top prospect in minor league baseball when he got the call mid season '86. Was being compared to guys like Jim Rice at the time, but was pretty much a constant disappointment. Can't believe I forgot this one... And I had his rookie card signed too (actually my only card I've ever had signed). Of course, he was really nice about signing stuff when Gantner and Bosio blew me off...
  4. I have yet to test it, but CenturyTel DLS is upgrading me to 10Mbps today.
  5. SWEET! CenturyTel just upgraded me to 10Mbps today. So I should be seeing max picture clarity even when someone else is on the computer. I also found an official Netflix statement that said their max HD streams require 4.8 Mbps (http://techblog.netflix.com/2011/01/netflix-performance-on-top-isp-networks.html). So if you have 5.0 (max), I'm sure it dips down too low on occasion.
  6. Some high school talent does, yes, but not all. The Brewers have rarely gone after someone that was going to require an over-slot signing in the first round, even without the draft salary cap in place. Covey was going to sign for slot prior to his physical. Lawrie, Jeffress, Rogers... I don't recall any big $$ deal about signing any of them. If Nick Williams wants $2M+ and will last until the #28 pick, the Brewers wouldn't draft him with or without the draft cap in place. I have no problem if you say they SHOULD go after those guys. But since they rarely do, the cap impact really helps them (preventing the Yanks or BoSox from over-slotting) more than it would hurt them, IMO. The only over-slot signings the Brewers regularly attempted were the picks in rounds 15-19 (Gennett, Howell, McFarland, Jenkins, Bucci).
  7. At least I'm not the only one! FYI, I just use the Full Editor more. I do like that you can start a message, then decide to use the full editor without losing the message.
  8. Its too early to include Parra and Rogers here. Inman wasn't a disappointment to me because he was the key part of a trade that eventually brought a 1st and a supplemental pick in return. What he did after he left us is no concern to me. P: JM Gold, Tom Wilhelmsen, Dennis Sarfate, Dana Eveland, Evan Fredrickson, Eric Arnett - granted Sarfate and Eveland were lower picks that raised our hopes at lower levels and couldn't sustain at upper, so that might be a little unfair... 2B: Jemile Weeks (for not signing) The entire 2006 draft. GM: Sal Bando.
  9. Oh if only I needed to ask that dumb question...
  10. The guy who stuck with McGehee until the final week of the season when we had Green in AAA with a .900+ OPS. I'm a big Green fan, but that statement isn't entirely fair either. I think RR stuck with McGehee too long, but there is no certainty that Green was going to hit better either. Hitting .997 anywhere is impressive, but its a big step up to the majors. And we were in the midst of a pennant race. He did bench Casey in the playoffs, so he did it when it counted.
  11. At most they go with 7 bullpen arms, 3 of which are locked up for sure with Ax, KRod and Loe, which leaves 4 spots for: Parra, Braddock, McClendon, De La Cruz, Dillard, Kintzler, Estrada, Veras. I'm pretty sure Ax, KRod, Loe, Veras, and Estrada are all locks to make the BP. Barring injuries, I would think Braddock, Kintzler, and McClendon will start at AAA (given options and that B and K didn't pitch much last year). And as TLB said, its how DM does things. That leaves 2 spots for Parra, De La Cruz, and Dillard. Parra has the upper hand given his contract and being left-handed (esp if Braddock goes to AAA). Its possible De La Cruz might be traded given his good AAA season last year and his mid-90s fastball. I'm sure teams will be looking for 6th starter/BP types. But I think the Brewers are pretty high on him also.
  12. Wade, Lebron, and Bosch too... except they didn't get one last year
  13. Reasons to not believe my memory: 1) I can't believe Salome was only at Seattle for a year. Still with the Brewers in 2010. I was sure it was longer. 2) I checked his stats and was surprised he had 3 AB with the big league club. Its too bad anyway. He certainly could hit. If Gennett were built like Salome, no one would be doubting his power.
  14. I found this: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-passan_cba_hgh_testing_draft_rules_112211 Significant penalties accompany teams that exceed their bonus pools. MLB will tax teams 75 percent for every dollar spent over the draft limit up to 5 percent. Between 5 and 10 percent, it’s 75 percent and a first-round pick the next season. From 10 to 15 percent, it’s a 100 percent tax and first- and second-round picks. And for those over 15 percent – which, for the Yankees, would be an extra $675,000 – the tax is 100 percent and the penalty two first-round picks. The international rules apply the same taxation rates and limit the worst derelicts to spending, at most, $250,000 on a player the next season. But if the fine's are high then that might make things unfair in general. I think it helps the Brewers actually. They rarely went overslot in rounds 1-10 anyway. So the chances of them being penalized are pretty minimal.
  15. If not, you found the right one!
  16. At this point, the Brewers will have roughly 6.7 million to sign their picks in the top-10 rounds. The Brewers spent more than 6.7 million through the first 10 rounds in the 2011 draft; and the prices aint' going down. They also had picks #12 and 15 last year. They have #28 and #29 this year. They do add the supplemental 1st rounder they didn't have last year. But then balance that by having rounds 2-10 drop 14 spots in each round. You are comparing apples and oranges by simply stating their cap numbers... 2011: #12: $2.525M #15: $2M #28: $1.134M #29: $1.116M #33: $936K So that is a $4.525M vs. $3.186M difference right there. The CBA, besides residual affects, has little to no impact on the 15-19 round range I believe. Any pick outside round 10 that has their bonus go above $100k will have that applied to their top-10 round cap. Thus, that limits the Brewer's habit of grabbing a HS player with a strong college commitment and giving him 2-4th round money. Then you need to read the CBA again. Don't you hate when your own words come back to bite you like that? Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't a team suddenly be "out of money" to sign a pick if they signed a bunch of other guys? Technically no. The penalty for exceeding the cap is a fine and/or loss of draft picks next year. So, its not a hard cap. With the revenue cap as well, shouldn't they sign for less/slot money much more easily? For slot money, yes, that is the general idea. But HS players might be more motivated to get a good college commitment for leverage. But still any leverage is reduced. edit - added cap numbers for 2011 draft signings
  17. Wolf is just kinda... When Jenkins and Favre were younger, it was an uncanny resemblance. I remember seeing a ST update on year that showed Jenkins goofing pretending to take a snap from center and took a 5 step drop... My first thought was, "Wow, Favre showed up at ST this year." I didn't know it was Jenkins until he showed the back of his jersey.
  18. If your friend is from the Milwaukee area, it makes sense. The Bears are the closest NFL team. Not true. It takes 2 hours to get to Lambeau and 4 hours to get to Soldier. I think Right Field Coder prefers that the Brewers and Packers universes remain separate. In this case, it's hard to avoid overlap when Ryan and Aaron are buds and Aaron visits Maryvale. We had the Favre/Jenkins look-alike connection before, so its appropriate that we get the Rodgers/Braun MVP connection now. Its just something with Packer QBs and Brewer LFers...
  19. Actually, that is correct. April 5th for the sounds, April 6th for the Brewers. I guess my question is invalid then... Wow, that's later than normal. Last year they started 3/31.
  20. Rogers has 8(?) games left on his suspension and he was granted another option year. Can the Brewers simply put him on the MLB roster (as inactive-suspended) for 8 games then option him to the MiLB club? Normally the MLB games start way before the MiLB clubs. So that way Rogers wouldn't miss any actual time?
  21. a bunch of of HS guys and pay them accordingly The only HS players that are disproportionately expensive are the ones are the ones with a strong college commitment. Covey was going to sign around the slot range prior to finding out he had diabetes. The only thing I see the CBA changing on how the Brewers draft is the 15-19 round range where they grab guys like Gennett, who sign overslot. I don't see the Brewers changing their 1-10 round draft plans at all.
  22. As long as Hart is only going to be out a couple weeks into the regular season, I'd just stick Aoki in RF full time and see what we have in him as a player. Use Morgan and Gomez in their usual CF platoon. For a couple weeks, Gamel could play everyday also (tough LHP and all). Then that last spot really could fill any need on the team. Even a guy like Brock K. might be able to handle it. A guy that can play OF and 1B defensively. Big question on the offense, but you wouldn't/shouldn't use him much either.
  23. 40-man roster player brock kjeldgaard bats right-handed, but hasn't played above double-a. he also has outfield experience. That actually isn't a bad idea if they need someone for a week or two. BK is on the 40-man already. He can play defensively in the OF and 1B as well as Hart. The main question would be his bat. He didn't hit AA very well last year. But if he has a nice spring (not a great indicator but otherwise you have nothing saying he is ready to hit MLB ball) and he is limited to emergency duty for a couple weeks, he could do the job while getting a little taste of MLB ball.
  24. What I don't understand is there's people who have this surgery and are back playing in 2 weeks or less. Why does Hart need a whole month of just recovery time? Plan for worst case, hope for best case.
  25. Rickie is a career .435 slugger. Granted, he has been a bit better lately (460-470 the last few years). But still, its not like he is a very big power guy... Ramirez, Hart, and Braun on the roster all clearly have more power than Weeks. Braun and Ramirez are better career OBP than Weeks, while Weeks, Morgan and Hart are all pretty close. Weeks seems like a perfect #2 hitter to me.
