  1. In little league and "beer league" softball, most players are RH and pull the ball Sure the effect is lessened in the MLB, but I really doubt every player hits an equal amount of balls to LF and RF.
  2. Is that allowed? With the huge salary we pay them? For shame!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I would guess they are waiting for the AFL to complete. Either way, there is no rush... Plenty of down time in the offseason, might as well spread it out.
  3. First of all, I don't want to turn this into a "Move Hart to 1B, Braun to RF, sign a LF" thread. There are plenty of lineup/who-to-sign (and shuffle current players) discussions going on. I'm looking for more of an academic answer to the question. Same with "move him to 1B". Lots of discussion on that, but that isn't really the point here. Secondly, I don't get to watch many games. So my first hand observations of Braun are limited. So given those caveats, here is my line of thinking: - Braun has a strong arm. Strong enough for RF. Probably his biggest defensive strength - Braun has range issues. Whether its speed, bad routes to the ball, slow recognition, whatever. This seems to be his biggest defensive weakness. So in RF, Braun's arm would become more useful. Range is essentially the same in LF vs. RF. BUT, I would think there are fewer balls hit to RF than LF. Not sure where to look that up, but basing that on the much higher number of RHB and them being more likely to hit to the left side. So emphasize the strength (arm) while hiding his weakness (range). Thoughts?
  4. The starter will stay in for 6 innings no matter what... (although if the starter were Carpenter, I'd be ok with that).
  5. Seems like the F-bombs were a secondary part of the "Moment". The Morgan's game winning hit and the Brewers' post-season victory were the main point.
  6. JSOnline article I'm a little happier that the Cardinals won the WS now... just a little. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. Freese appears to be a decent guy. Yeah, except he keeps getting clutch doubles and triples at the "wrong" (for who I cheer for) times.
  8. Yes, the hypocrisy of it is pretty ridiculous. CC can "swear to himself", but Braun can't "reflect to himself"? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. A surgery that will effect his push-off leg and its not just a 'scope/cleanup. That's not good.
  10. I will say, that I really don't like Braun admiring his home runs either, but at the same time Pujols is in a class by himself. I've never understood why this is bad. I don't like the taunting type of reactions (see Carpenter). But you just hit a home run. Equivalent to scoring a TD in football. Why can't you celebrate as long as its not directly taunting the other team? Now of course, standing and watching a 350 ft flyball get caught be the LF is just embarrassing...
  11. Neither of those two have a prayer of getting a major league deal on the open market. I would disagree. LHP get a lot of chances. Especially the ones that throw over 90MPH. I would think if they weren't going to offer arby, they would have non-tendered them already instead of making a 40-man spot for them.
  12. And in a few days, Fielder and K-Rod will come off the 40-man. Question: How different are Josh Wilson and Edwin Maysonet? Sounds like the same player...
  13. From what I've seen in the past, it seems skin color often plays a role in how these stories play out. Yes, its happened in the past and it will probably (unfortunately) happen again. But that also doesn't mean that EVERY case that has racial undertones. Nyjer came to the Brewers with a reputation. Nyjer threw his tobacco and swore (on camera). Press reacted first, then found out from Nyjer after the game that CC swore first. Then a couple days later CC admitted to swearing... At least this time around they vilified CC when recounting him swearing at Nyjer. As for the incident at SF, that was really only reported by SF papers. I'm assuming its the time he was signalling "T" after making plays. I thought the national media ignored it as a non-story. Villanueva pumped his fist and yelled (not swore) after striking out Pujols. Who did the media favor? The All-Star 1B from the Cardinals. High profile, All-Star, WS winning players tend to get the benefit of the doubt. Bringing up religion is completely out of line also. How do you know CC is born again? How do you know Nyjer is not? Very uncalled for.
  14. Nyjer also threw his tobacco wad and swore back. The negative press reaction was to that. Wasn't until later that the press even realized CC swore at Nyjer. To my knowledge, Napoli didn't even acknowledge CC swearing at him. I could be wrong on that, I didn't see it live. The thing that blows my mind is that CC does this twice. And the talking heads on the post-game are trying to rationalize it.
  15. you lost me. In both cases, CC swore at Nyjer and Napoli. In both cases the national media tended to defend CC. If Nyger is African-American and Napoli is Caucasian, how is that racist? Its crazy and irrational, but not racist. At least we know CC isn't racist. He is an equal opportunity swearer.
  16. Hes playing the race card because its the correct card to play in this instance. Exactly, because Mike Napoli is ... oh wait a minute...
  17. I would agree on the "more likely." But the Brewers have the money to sign two of them. And if they want to go "all in" again, it might be less expensive doing it that way than all the prospects we gave up last year. And Mark A seems to be a bit more loose on the purse strings than previous owners. Signing Reyes and Lidge, we would give up a 1st round pick and maybe a second (not sure of Lidge's FA type status), but gain 4 1st/2nd round picks from losing Prince and K-Rod. Add Gamel and an inexpensive 1B backup and we aren't much off of this year's team. But its still a long shot for the Brewers.
  18. Long before we would consider giving Fukudome a 3yr/$24M contract, I would give the position to Gindl. And I'm not a huge Gindl fan (i.e. that he is a 4th OF, limited starter). But Gindl would seem to have better defense and at worst, the same offense as Fuk.
  19. 2 of Reyes/Lidge/Oswalt is possible for the Phillies, not the Brewers. Sure its possible for the Brewers. Not probable, but its possible. I would imagine last offseason, we would have said Grienke and Marcum weren't probable either....
  20. Excellent. A new variation on "someone is stealing my signs!" Maybe they should take a cue from the NFL and wear those ear-muff headsets and cover their mouth with the playbook.
  21. Nyjer is African American and Carpenter is a white, born again Christian. But we aren't a racist country. Wow. Way to pull race and religion into something that had nothing to do with either...
  22. Maybe ESPN can hire them. It would be an upgrade.
  23. Knowing you have to unload a guy diminishes his trade value. And knowing you have to sign a guy increases his demand. As Robin said, you don't have to unload Wolf and Marcum by signing Oswalt. And normally, there is a constant demand for veteran pitching. If not in the offseason, then definitely at the trade deadline.
