  3. And ironically, 1st team at 3B was Lawrie.
  4. Winning Baseball, Division Championship Banner, Playoff baseball.... After years of ineptitude, its nice to have (or have a good shot at obtaining) again. This year....Prince Fielder decides it is his last year. If it helps, he has decided nothing until the ink dries on that new contract.
  5. Flashback to the start of the season: Fiers - After succeeding as a starter at A+ and AA the previous year, Fiers inexplicably starts the year in the AA bullpen. Green - Green starts his 3rd consecutive year as the 3B starter at AA, after Wheeler (former SS) was promoted ahead of Green to AAA. Now both are with the MLB club. Yeah, you could say it was a good year for both of them. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. In related news, Jr. High girls all list each other as the meanest girl in school.... Hats off to the 75-80% of MLB players that didn't bother to respond.
  7. A Tejada for Wolf deal is exactly the kind of deal Melvin should be looking at this offseason. I assume the Mets would counter offer for Peralta. Ok, so what about Fiers then? I don't know what Tejada is worth, but from the sounds of it, Peralta would be too much. And Wolf probably costs too much. Would Fiers a fair trade?
  8. If TLR became the commissioner, I might be done with MLB in general... but I'd probably still go to the occasional Brewer game and untuck my shirt...
  9. Understood...but Vinny Rottino was the Pride of Racine! LaCrosse claims him too! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif UW-L is right up there with any college in Wisconsin for MLB players in the last 10-15 years. And that is kind of sad when you think about it. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CynKooybAH8/Sly1is30BfI/AAAAAAAAAHI/5emD9tv2Y98/s320/Elite+Eight.bmp http://www.shopatmoxie.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/cards_crazy8_300.jpg
  10. How is Jeff Suppan going to explain to his son that he averaged more per season (a few years past) than CC will for the next two? Seems like a pretty decent deal based on how he has been pitching. Obviously, there is a big injury risk and a risk for age decline, but not too bad for St. Louis.
  11. William Henry Harrison was hardly healthy... All presidential speeches should be done in the rain to train them how to keep it short. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Not to be picky, but wouldn't that mean 3 cubed? Or 3^3 = 27? Maybe I'm missing the reference.... And in thanks to Pittsburgh, I'll post this one (since someone already beat me to the Beatles idea): http://www.jerseyhut.com/image_466220192_Majestic-Pittsburgh-Pirates-9-Bill-Mazeroski-Gray-Cooperstown-Collection-Baseball-Jersey.jpg
  13. That's all fine and dandy, but the exact same thing could be said about Betancourt. Why in blazes does YB get brought into a conversation about Money and Gamel??? YB hasn't been coached by Money. If he did coach him at AAA for 3 years without much improvement, then yes, he would probably rip YB also. RR is a different person in a different job than Money. And nowhere did I say RR shouldn't criticize YB. If this was just a Money/Gamel personality issue, Gamel would have already been in the MLB level. I kind of doubt it. He really needed most of this year to work at 1B in the minors. You actually make my point. If Gamel's only problem was a personality issue, he would be our starting 3B. For the last two years. But instead, he needs another year to learn another position because he couldn't play his original position at the MLB level. And he was beat out by Casey McGehee, so its not like Money himself was at 3B... For years, its been Macha ruined Gamel or Macha hates Gamel. That must be the only reason Gamel is at AAA. Well, RR wasn't impressed, either. Obviously, we know how Money feels. He must not have endeared himself to his teammates either (moving his locker outside). Everyone rubs someone that wrong way, but when you start to rub everyone the wrong way, then...
  14. I managed to go to all three games as well. As a poor college student, I only managed to make the first game. Saw hit 2,998, but they didn't hand out certificates for that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I did see 3,000 live on TV.
  15. First and obviously, if the Brewers left Wisconsin, I'd be done with them. Yes. I'm a homer, so I'd agree with that. I would become a token Twins fan (Cubs - no way). But I wouldn't follow them anywhere near what I do with the Brewers. Other things that water down the game for the sake of profits wouldn't necessarily shove me away, but would lessen my interest: - Increasing the number of games. - Increasing the number of playoff teams -- Both of those extend an already incredibly long season. - Not fixing the salary cap - its got to be competitive. No one said this has to be a capitalist system. - DH in the NL
  16. what is there to gain from publicly bashing one of your own players? Motivation. Gamel has been at AAA for three years (and might be in line for a 4th). I'm pretty sure Money has exhausted all previous means of trying to get him to change. Perhaps this is one last ditch effort to get through. I'll add that that in general, I don't care for this. But being a MLB or MiLB manager is much different than managing at any job any of us have. There are not reporters asking my boss about my progress every year. Money is asked by reporters about these guys. The white elephant in the room is Gamel not at the MLB level right now. So Money addresses it. From what I recall, he reviews his players once a year. Its not like he is complaining about them daily to the press (Hello, George Karl). From what he has said, its been a problem for a couple years now. Big surprise? No, all of us picked up on something. Macha picked up on it. We knew about the reporting late issues in ST. RR has hinted at it. And it was painfully obvious when he wasn't called up in Sept. If this was just a Money/Gamel personality issue, Gamel would have already been in the MLB level. Its not like he hasn't has the chances...
  17. I'm upset that people are upset that I'm upset. ?
  18. Doh! I always get Merklinger and Meadows (both Dans, both LHP) mixed up... Merklinger - 25 yr. starting LHP ended in AA last year Meadows - 23 yr. relief LHP ended in AAA last year. Both have similar K/9 and BB/9 numbers. I could see either one helping a team in the BP.
  19. I have no illusions that this is hard. I've had a hard time just finding the time to read 1/2 of what is posted in the Link thread. I can't imagine trying to read, compile, and write everything you guys do for this site.
  20. Gindl and Manzanillo - obvious choices. Meadows - probable. Was doing a decent job starting at AAA. I would imagine he could easily help some team as a LH BP arm. Luetge, Merklinger - outside chance. Merklinger is healthy, but Luetge is the better arm (if completely healthy). Lots of middling position players that might be drafted, but probably worth the risk
  21. From a pure baseball point of view, I prefer the 9 men on defense being the 9 men batting. I like the additional stragedy involved. It focuses on being an all around baseball players, not just specialists. No, I don't like watching Ben Sheets bat (actually, I do because its kind of funny), but I also don't like the thought of some guy sitting on the bench without a clue with what to do with that leather thing that goes on your non-throwing hand. But given the economic nature of the game, I think the DH is inevitable. Owners are going to want to protect pitchers from having to bat. And fans generally want more offense (maybe thats why soccer isn't very popular here). I think its just a matter of time. If you were ever to see a pitcher hit in the head while batting, that is probably all it will take.
  22. Morgan and others with the Nationals said the genesis of their issue in that game had to do with Carpenter and his inside pitches. No, that is impossible. We all know TLR's feelings on inside pitches. On Friday, Carpenter pulled a reporter from The Post-Dispatch and a reporter from MLB.com aside to clarify his explanation. Preferring not to talk about it again or put the incident back in the headlines, Carpenter said he didn't want to "come across as a liar" because of the confusion. I'm confused. If he didn't want to talk about it again, why seek out two reporters to do exactly that? We're not worried about what Albert is thinking. I'm sure Carpenter explained it to him. Seriously, though, what was the point of Albert charging across the mound? Morgan was walking away, Carpenter was walking away. Albert's actions where what cleared the bench.
  23. Ah... I guess I never count the supplemental picks as "1st round" picks. I realize they are counted as 1st rounders, but my brain... you don't want to know. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. Yeah, no matter how you slice it its a 1A and 1B (for POY) situation. Peralta's dominance at the end of the season made me forget about his so-so start. I'll also say that while the Brewers have picked middling prospects for POY before, its normally only when there aren't many other good choices among the high-end prospects. I bet they pick Peralta.
