  1. A lineup with 3 performing hitters and 6 below average players is not going to make it. But I think that is a bit of the point... No one expects those 6 to continue to under perform. McGehee will bounce back. Hart will return. Lucroy just returned. Then add improvements in pitching with Grienke, Parra and Hawkins... So after a bad start of the season, they have bounced back strong. I don't think anyone is basing their WS plans based on these first 11 games (in either direction). In fact, rarely does anyone make drastic changes based on 11 games. That was the small sample police's point. No manager is going to drop McGehee to 8th in the lineup based on 11 games.
  2. Please tell me that is a joke about Lucroy hitting #2. A catcher does not hit #2 - too much else on his mind. Actually Lucroy might become a good #2 hitter. I'm not ready to drop him there right now, but his minor league career numbers are: 298/379/459/838 If he can get his MLB OBP up to 350/360, he would make a fine #2 hitter.
  3. For a minute there I thought you were one of those Anti-Rodgers, Anti-Thompson Favre lovers. Notice how all those people suddenly disappeared? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. But as of now, there is nowhere for Farris to play in Milwaukee. Not exactly true, since he is projected as a utility type player (although, he seems to be exceeding that). But still, if you want to groom the guy as a Utility player, why not get him some time at SS? I could see (and be comfortable with) Green and Farris as our backup infielders next year (although I doubt that happens given that they will be both rookies).
  5. The fact he's only 25 and is arguably still developing leaves some hope that he could yet improve on his command, but one has to wonder by how much. Randy Johnson was 29 before he got his pitches under control... Nolan Ryan was in his 30s before he was under 5BB/9IP...
  6. The Rodgers example came readily to mind to me as well. The media bashed him, before the spirit of Paul Harvey could get the rest of the story...
  7. Another spot will open when Hart comes back, and probably another when Hawkins and Greinke come back. So I don't think we'll be at a shortage of open 40-man spots. We'll have 2 more within the next few weeks. Sure, but that still doesn't change what I would do right now... Especially if that means adding DiFelice, just so he is optioned back to the minors (does he have options?) when Hawkins comes back. And I'm only expecting one more 40-man spot (catcher) myself...
  8. Just because there is a spot open doesn't mean we should fill it with DiFelice. He will give you about what McClendon and Kinzler will give you (except limited as a ROOGY). I'd prefer to keep that 40-man spot open for: 1) A real injury need 2) A waiver wire pickup at a spot of more need (SS). You never know who could get exposed this time of year with people going on and coming off the DL. Sure, the likely hood of that is low, but it gives you flexibility in the case that you need it.
  9. Forgot about that minimum time limit. Thanks for the correction.
  10. If there was a clear favorite, the other person would've been let go today. Not true. The only thing that was clear is that both were more valuable to the team than Reed.
  11. Actually, I think when a shortstop decides to let a ball hit him in the face rather than using his provided equipment to catch it, that's a sign that he's thrown in the towel. That's true, but we didn't steal after they gave us that "indication" either. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Could it be the number of options Kintzler has considering he shouldn't be up for long with Hawkins coming back? No. Both McClendon and Kintzler were already optioned for the year, so bringing them up and down doesn't effect that any more for the year. My guess is that Kintzler impressed more than McClendon in ST. In reality they are pretty close to the same, so a small difference at the right time was probably the only reason.
  13. Wolf for Scutaro? I surely hope not. Maybe a lefty RP for Scutaro (say Stetter - it was reported the BoSox were looking for a LRP also), but not for an SP unless there are some prospects that come back with him. If we were to deal Wolf at some point this season, I'd like to see Rogers, Rivas, Peralta, et al... pitching well to give us multiple backup options for depth. We will see how Estrada does, but no thanks on Mitre as a starter.
  14. Is there any chance this guy can play shortstop? I'll clarify that I was answering "Is there any chance...", not "Does he have the ability..." If the Brewers haven't given him a chance now, then they won't (right or wrong).
  15. We just traded away our top 2 SS from the system in the past two years. We lost Cruz and mainly have Maysonet to backup a stop-gap starting SS in Yuni. If they still aren't playing Farris at SS regularly, they never will. So I would say based on that: "No".
  16. Dan Merklinger has cleared waivers and been re-assigned to Huntsville That's good to hear. On the flip side, if Brae Wright ever makes it back to the mound, there should be some fireworks that night. Not that he was/is such a high prospect, but wow has it been a long injury road for him...
  17. I remember the tour of the clubhouse at least the visiting one, and Miller Lites were lined up in the cooler along with Red Bulls and Gatoraide and all that.. Now there is an idea... load the visitor's clubhouse with whiskey, vodka, schnapps, Long Island Ice Teas... that might help our home record! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Parra isn't going to go long relief. You throw as hard as he does and you get penciled in for late innings. I agree that Parra has more potential than Villy, but he his results so far have been similar to Villy's (not exact results, but up and down consistency). When he comes back, he is targeted for long reliever/early innings role in this BP. If he continues what he did last year in the pen, he could become a late inning guy, but he isn't there yet. It's incredible that the Brewers have shown the patience they have with this guy... Some people complained about being too impatient with De La Rosa or Nelson Cruz (which I would disagree with). Anyone that has some good talent (like Parra), they do try to give them as many chances as they can. Some years that is easier to do (available 40 man roster spots, realistic chance at the playoffs, etc..) than others, however.
  19. Yeah, I remember that, too. I was referring more to Tom H's article that makes it sound very strange that a manager would be doused with water instead of beer with his "Why Water?" statement.
  20. Merk is one of my sleeper favorites. Not a really high ceiling, but definitely a MLB SP ceiling and not that far away. I think he will clear waivers, but I wouldn't be surprised if some non-contending pitching-poor team nabs him (like the Brewers of last year).
  21. I work a desk job and can't get as much exercise as I should, so I started doing mental hurdles. In fact, yesterday, I set my personal best at the 110 meter mental hurdles. Unfortunately, I didn't warm up first by thinking outside the box and I pulled a ganglia on the final sprint. Now I have to do a paradigm shift until it heals...
  22. I doubt it will happen, but I'm hoping they call up Peralta and cover him with the BP. Everyone is rested and available after Yo's night last night and then they don't have to make a 40-man move...
  23. Wily Peralta anyone? Wouldn't mind having a young stud throwing 93-95 with electric breaking stuff following Gallardo. Hopefully Dougie gives him the call. No one seems to be talking about it, but with Yo pitching the full 9 innings, they could call up Peralta and cover him with the BP if he falters. But I can only see that happening if they feel "trapped" by the 40-man roster right now.
  24. The OP in this thread references thisarticle. The main point was the shower Roenicke took for his first victory. The entire team as well as the coaching staff pounced on him and showered him with water in celebration of his first major-league victory. Why water? “We can’t have beer in the clubhouse,” explained general manager Doug Melvin. When I heard "shower," gatorade was my first guess, water would be my second. Why would someone assume beer? Seems like Tom wrote the article (in part) to bring out the beer-free locker room angle. I realize that big celebrations are handled with the team shaking and spraying bottles of beer (or more typically champagne), but this wasn't that. You don't celebrate 1-4 like that. This was the manager's first victory. And typically in sports a manager gets doused with the leftovers from what the players drink during the game (gatorade/water).
  25. There is no way you put Weeks after Braun and Fielder. Agreed. I can see dropping him to 2nd to maximize his slugging (assuming you have someone with good OBP for leadoff), but no way do you drop him below Braun and Fielder. High OBP followed by High SLG.
