  1. I assume these minor league day games are field trips for elementary and middle school kids and thousands of kids are in attendance. Your tax dollars at work... Thanks for the thought. I've only had a chance to see 2 MiLB games in person. Our school field trips were only to the zoo or a museum... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Cool Little Pine Breeze Sweet! I like it. Maybe Huntsville can have a car air freshener giveaway for Komatsu instead of a bobblehead...
  2. I realize that we are playing the Cubs, but I don't understand how so many of these minor league teams can attract many fans playing day games, let alone mid-morning games during the week like this one...
  3. Wily Peralta's Fine (DL stint for dental work) Good! At first I thought Peralta got fined for going to the dentist (fine being a noun in that case). Isn't the English language fun? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I've heard that Rivera can become a plus defender at SS, but his only problem is hitting Welcome Escobar 2.0!
  4. Whenever I see this thread I just think, "Why won't you die?" Then why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?!? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I knew this thread would get a bump after last night's play. No matter what you think of YB, it was a sweet play.
  5. I'm not a fan of Weeks in the 5 spot. I'd be ok with him in the 2 spot, if we had a pure lead-off type hitter (like if Gomez had an OBP of 350-370 range). But outside of Braun and Fielder, he has the best OBP skills on the team. And on an OBP starved team, it needs to be accentuated, not diminished. current BABIP is .390 Last I looked, that was a good thing... Yes, he will revert down somewhat. But his career MiLB OBP is .080 above his AVE. So if he reverts to .260/.340 that still is an improvement on what we have now. And honestly, I feel confident that he can hit .280/360.
  6. Weeks Lucroy Braun Fielder Hart McGehee Bentacourt Gomez/Boggs Pitcher No, I'm not kidding. Lucroy is a good hitter. He isn't going to SLG much and he is probably a little slow (warning: catcher stereotype) leading to some DPs, but he has a high OBP and has done that for his whole minor league career. Its time.
  7. How does that work with Boggs? Do they have to wait for him to clear waivers or can they pull him back immediately? I know there is no minimum time sent down due to Nyjer's injury...
  8. I'm starting to think that Lucroy should be batting second. He always carried a high OBP in the minors, got called up early last year and struggled. But now has an OBP of .383
  9. I suppose that would be placing the best construction on the post...I would say the subsequent post by the author has revealed that it was not meant to be humorous. Of course the post was meant as a humorous reminder that we ventured way off topic. If I had posted what I really thought, I'd probably be banned from BF.net. As casey and others have agreed, your initial post about YB's play effecting Yo was completely valid to bring up. It was the subsequent discussion that rehashed YB in detail again, even to the point of spell checking that was overboard. Everyone knows that topics have swayed off course (I've done it myself). But there has been SO much discussion on YB, that I think people (including me) are tired of it. Not that he shouldn't be brought up ever. But just so it doesn't consume the original thread intent.
  10. but it's too easy doing 1 per level though Yeah, it was a bit more obvious than I had hoped when I started... hopefully the competition will pick up in future months. There used to be a monthly minor league wrap-up done by the mods a few years back. I always liked the idea, since other people always spot something I would miss. With rookie ball starting, it should make it more interesting also, as we get more to pick. For overall I would agree with Ross and Davis. Komatsu would have Walker beat out for second, IMO, but Davis has been WOW.
  11. b5 0-1 0 --- 6,(2-2) BSBFFX PIT A. LaRoche C. Sabathia -5% 54% Single to P (Ground Ball to Front of Home) I'm drawing a mental blank... what was the controversy on that one again?
  12. It would be fair to make this point if it were possible to talk about one player without ever referencing another. Its fair because there already is a 27 page (and growing) thread on that topic. Sure, our SS defense effects our pitchers. But the discussion went far beyond that....
  13. I like following the minors, but I generally miss someone who is playing well. So I'm interested in knowing who you thought had the best month of April in our minors. Here is mine: AAA Pitcher: Rivas, Amaury - Having a very quiet, but nice start to the year. Batter - Gamel, Mat - Kind of by default. Everyone else has limited playing time or just playing poorly. AA Pitcher: Peralta, Wily - Edges out Michael Bowman due to ~3x the K/9IP Batter: Komatsu, Erik - Little Pine is bringing out the big sticks (well, for a 5'10" CF anyway). Boy, wouldn't his OBP look nice in the MLB right now... A+ Pitcher: Bucci, Nicholas - Neck and neck with Heckathorn Batter: Davis, Khristopher - Turning heads everywhere right now. If you can hit with power in Brevard... sweet! A Pitcher: Ross, Austin - Excellent start for Austin. Bucking for a promo already... Batter: Walker, Michael - 3B from no where jumps on the scene! Interesting that 3 of the 4 batters are left handed...
  14. Good morning class, welcome to "Problems with Gallardo 101". For those of you have have mistaken this class with "Problems with Betancourt 101" (aka "Problems with Betencourt 101", aka "Defensive Metrics 101"), please note its being held now at this location.
  15. Completely off the top of my head without the benefit of any consultation (i.e. warning, I'm probably wrong).... I would guess that he remains under his original contract until he declares free agency. If he is claimed, he will play on that same contract, but fulfilled by another team, so waiving him doesn't void the contract. I believe he is the only one to void the contract by declaring free agency. Then he could ask the Brewers for more money...
  16. Throw in Roger's carpal tunnel via a virus and Ben Sheets battling vertigo (also due to a virus I believe) twice... we get some of the oddest injuries. I'm sure all teams get them, but this is rather strange...
  17. Parra's stats as a reliever are pretty similar to Stetter's (save for the LH/RH splits) and he is two years younger. IP WHIP SO/9 SO/BB ERA Parra 62.1 1.339 9.7 3.05 3.19 Stetter 84.1 1.364 9.3 1.67 3.84 After the last half of last year, I'm actually pretty interested to see Parra as an RP full time.
  18. We now return you to your nationally tele-typed discussion about Gallardo... So what are the odds that a roster move to bring up Greinke will involve Gallardo?
  19. Between Rogers and Sheets they could compile a list of some of the oddest injuries...
  20. Arm strength: "That's one area he's working on. We've got to change some mechanics with him throwing. As of right now, it's below average." Fielding: "Very good. He runs good routes and gets good jumps on balls." Given that scouting report by Isom, I'm content to leave him in LF. Hopefully he can build his arm strength up. Am I remembering wrong that there was some past surgery (from his HS days or something) that is part of his arm strength problem?
  21. Question: What exactly are the defensive limitations holding Davis to LF? Generally, the only diff from RF and LF is arm strength, which I think has been the main knock on him. Besides arm strength, how does he rate for actual catching FBs, taking the correct route to a ball, effort, etc...?
  22. What do people expect to come next? d,e, and f!
  23. I think he would be insulted for even being asked. My thinking about it was based on that Bernie's Crew article linked above, which concludes that Gallardo isn't repeating his delivery, which waterfalls into control and velocity issues. Its very possible Gallardo will bounce back immediately and put this small stretch of games behind him. But if a pitcher needs to pitch to get his delivery down, but you can't leave him in the game long enough to get a good amount of practice, its a catch-22. IF (big if) that is truly the problem, I don't see Gallardo being insulted by the idea, especially if he feels out of control himself. Not saying it will happen (or should), but throwing the idea out.
  24. Well thank you JJ. Although you did happen to have a typo in your post, but don't worry I fixed it for you! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I think you'll find that most people around here thoroughly enjoy the Reds' attitude towards the Cardinals (or at least Brandon Phillips), and are becoming more hostile towards Reds fans. Funketown, I fixed a typo in your post for you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Welcome Sabo! Although calling you "Sabo" evokes thoughts of Chris Sabo and not sabometrics (IMO anyway). Well, I'm part of the second fastest team in history... I'll be there May 21st. I don't get there very often, but enjoy it when I do!
  25. So, if Gallardo continues to struggle prior to Grienke coming back, would you send Gallardo to AAA to find his groove back? (I'm assuming he still has an option, but I can't find that page right now). Yes, Gallardo will bounce back. Yes, small sample size. Yes.... Just curious if you would do that with the way everyone else has been pitching or if you would just wait it out at the MLB level. Personally if Gallardo still struggles in the next outing and Estrada is still solid, I would approach Gallardo with the idea. I wouldn't do it against his wishes.
