  1. With Seidel's injury issues, it wouldn't surprise me to have him start as an RP. Still cheering for the local kid from the LaCrosse area over here! It would be nice to see Heckathorn in AA also... He had limited innings there last year, but I thought he showed enough to push him.
  2. Any ideas on why there aren't doing many piggy-back starters this year? Organizational shift in philosophy or because most of them are college pitchers? It would be really nice if both Hawn and Morris produce big this year so the Brewers can be aggressive with both. It would be nice to see both promoted after 1/2 seasons, but only because they are producing...
  3. Or Gatorade dispensers...
  4. Yes, but the surgeon finished up and admired his stitches for 2 seconds longer than he should have. At which point the anesthesiologist just slowly took off his scrubs and left them on the surgery floor...
  5. Green seems to have the Brad Nelson luck with the wrist injury. Some guys just have a hard time swinging like they used to. Yeah, I'm hopeful that this year Green will break "back out", being his second year removed from wrist problems. He put up similar numbers as Lawrie last year (not saying he is a prospect like Lawrie - older, repeating AA, etc...) and those were under his career norms. Maybe he is being discriminated against in the Brewer's system because he can play defense. Looking at Wheeler, its kind of funny how similar he and Talor are also. Similar size, late round draft picks, similar offensive numbers. Looks like Taylor has the potential for more power, however (if he recovers to his pre-wrist injury state).
  6. Fiers to the bullpen in AA? A double disappointment. I was expecting starting at AAA (or at minimum BP at AAA). Also Green back in AA. With Gamel moving to 1B, I'd think the 3B spot at AAA should be his.
  7. The game starts at 2am... I'm pretty sure you will miss it unless you have a DVR or are in Korea... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I should put a "meeting" on my work schedule so no one bothers me while I Gameday it. But alas, I do need to work... Hawing, I'm very concerned for your retina health. So please make sure your eye dr. examines them well (which of course means they must be dialated!). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I3K, hopefully there is nothing for you to yell "Come On!" about as that is hard on your throat. "Woo-HOO" and "YeSSSSS" are much gentler to yell.
  9. The problem is not his errors, it's his range that makes him a below average fielding SS. Ok, so we need to whine when he missed on up the middle or between he and McGehee... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Someone please explain to me this sadness over losing Luis Cruz. My $0.02 a little late... I just had a feeling he was going to be a late bloomer. Nothing significant, but a decent option at SS. And now that he has gone to Texas, I'm sure it will happen... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. otherwise, i'm predicting that the brewers will outright kottaras or nieves on april 6th, recall martin maldonado, purchase the contract of marco estrada and option a relief pitcher. Of course, Hart may be back by then, causing them to outright Reed, clearing the required 40-man spot...
  12. Just a little baseball lingo question: So you are saying the word "outrighted" is the reason he is off the 40-man? Otherwise it would have been "optioned"? Bummer for the player, good for the team. Nice to have the 40-man spot open again...

  14. You could put Fielder at SS too but that doesn't make it a good idea. Prince would be fine at SS. Its all a matter of coaches positioning him in the right spots. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Hawkins tweeted that he'll be rehabbing at Brevard County. Brevard starts on April 7th. I figured Hawkins would be back sooner, since he has already been pitching...
  16. Sensationalism gets more publicity than good news/sports reporting. Look how much he just got mentioned for an opinion article that means next to nothing.
  17. I'll raise my hand as a Dickerson defender, but I never pimped him over being anything but a decent #4 OFer. He only had about 1 full season's worth of ABs (~430), but was more "established" than Boggs. Reed is more "established" than Dickerson, but at a hellish 666 OPS (pun intended). I don't consider any of our backup OFers as a major part of this team and Mitre and Morgan don't really excite me at all either...
  18. That's ok, I originally copied it from someone else. Why reinvent the wheel? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Roenickewas pretty strait forward in talking about the last roster spots. Here are a few snippets: With opening day a week away, time is running out for catcher Jonathan Lucroy and right fielder Corey Hart to be ready. Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke did not seem optimistic about either player's opening day prospects Thursday. Roenicke all but said RHP Marco Estrada will be the fifth starter while Zack Greinke is out. When asked who he was still considering, Estrada was the only name he mentioned. Roenicke said it would be unfair to put Wily Peralta in that position. If Corey Hart is not able to go, two from among Brandon Boggs, Jeremy Reed and Chris Dickerson, will make the roster. The last bench spot will come down to Erick Almonte, Luis Cruz or Edwin Maysonet. No comments on the BP, unfortunately...
  20. Slowey isn't a guy you'd pick up to start a couple games and stick back in the pen... I realize that is what DM said he was expecting out of someone he picked up (rather than the old vet type). But if he were to snag someone better than Narveson, then Narv can move to the pen. He has no guarantees.
  21. So are a player's current placement an approximation of where they will be? I'm surprised Scarpetta is playing with Brevard. And with some minor leaguers playing at the MLB level, I'd expect more downward movement of players rather than upward... As for Arnett, ST results don't mean much for anyone. There is still hope that he comes on strong once the real BB fly. I just hope he doesn't get too down on himself and let it snowball...
  22. (Y/N) is for if the player has an option remaining (Yes/No) Pitching: 1) SP - Gallardo 2) SP - Marcum 3) SP - Wolf 4) SP - Narveson 5) SP - Peralta (Y) / Estrada (MiLB) / Dillard (MiLB) / Trade or Waiver pickup 6) RP - Axford 7) RP - Saito 8) RP - Loe 9) RP - Stetter (Y) 10) RP - Green (N) 11) RP - Kintzler (Y) 12) RP - McClendon (Y) / Braddock(Y) / DiFelice (MiLB) / Egan (Rule 5) - Might Egan swoop in and take advantage of Hawkins injury??? Position Players: 13) 1B - Fielder 14) 2B - Weeks 15) SS - Betancourt 16) 3B - McGehee 17) LF - Braun 18) CF - Gomez 19) RF - Kotsay (N) - Like it or *not*, he seems to be getting most of the starts in Hart's absence 20) C - Lucroy - Timing is tight for his return... 21) BU IF: Counsell 22) BU C: Kottaras (N) 23) BU OF: Dickerson (Y) - Hopefully he gets a good shot at platooning with Kotsay, but I wouldn't hold my breath... 24) BU IF: Cruz (N) / Almonte (MiLB) - Almonte is limited defensively, so I'm guessing Cruz makes it. 25) BU OF: Boggs (N) / Reed (MiLB contract) - Boggs is a switch hitter and on the 40-man. Otherwise they are pretty evenly matched. Advantage Boggs. DL: - This list is growing far too much, but if it worked for the Packers... SP - Greinke RF - Hart RP - Parra RP - Hawkins Probably Out: RP - James (Y) IF - Farris (Y) C - Maldonado (Y) C - Rivera (MiLB) - Not getting many at-bats. C - Nieves (N) - Still a small window if Lucroy doesn't bounce back... Optioned to the MiLB: SP - Scarpetta SP - Merklinger SP - Rodgers SP - Rivas IF - Gamel (Y) - Hopefully, he sees 1B has hit ticket to the MLB and embraces it.
  23. Yeah, over that span, including the recession, its pretty good. About 9% ROI per year. Probably did much better than his other businesses during that time...
  24. When Corey Hart came up, I know the Brewers played him in a soft platoon with someone else. I know I was upset by it (Hart wasn't the stud in the system, but he recently had won the AA MVP, so no slouch either) at the time. But looking back on it, it wasn't a bad idea. He wasn't quite ready to tear up the league, but it gives him some experience without throwing him in the deep end. BTW, the Suppan/Roger comparison is way off base. Its no where near that extreme. But I will add on that note, that breaking a pitcher in to the MLB in the bullpen is not a bad idea. Its not something for every pitcher, but for some it wouldn't be bad. If Rogers had been more developed when he had his arm injuries (say he already had put in plenty of AAA time), starting him in the bullpen the first year back from his injuries wouldn't have been a bad idea (then returning him to starting the next year of course).
  25. My 401k went up more than that last year.... 7% isn't a great return if you are looking at investments, especially with everything bouncing back from 2009... (S&P500 went up ~10% in 2010).
