I know the ultimate goal is winning a WS and all of us really long for that. But I have to appreciate the culture of winning the Brewers have created. Here are the number of days each team led their division since 2020.

My hope is that Cooper moves to MLB, but I'm guessing we won't know until TC. I think part of Walker's struggles are trying to coordinate and communicate with everyone else while trying to diagnose his own responsibilities. I think he would be much better if he can simply play are react. But perhaps that is why Cooper was able to make so many plays also? I doubt we will see any vet brought in to start at MLB save for Wilson (or similar level backup) returning. I'll guess McDuffie returns on the cheap side or we will see the "-er" LB core of Walker-Copper-Hopper with Wilson as the backup and a draft pick/UDFA/vet minimum FA being the 5th LBer.

Kind of surprised about Covington given the connections with MLF others have had before him... but even if you hate Belichick, someone being his DL coach for 4 years couldn't be terrible.

Yes, AI is the main reason NVidia went nuts. Clearly the Deepseek announcement impacted it. Oddly, I was having a conversation in the office when someone was talking about this and wondering where the stock price would go next. I told him to buy because it was most likely a panic reaction and the stock would bounce back up pretty quick after people evaluated the reality of things. But I didn't take my own advice either, so...

This is a little different than the generational gap that typically leads to someone saying "this generation has no common sense" - which really means that we don't have common experiences that lead us to make similar decisions. I'm 50 years old and I include my generation in the educational system that switched from "let me teach you how to think critically" (typically referred to as classical education) to the "learn and regurgitate information" system that fits well into multiple choice testing profiles. There is also much written about the education systems of India and China compared to the US and how they help or hinder the ability to create as function of their education system. (I'm an engineering manager and have worked with engineers in many countries - customers, suppliers, and direct reports - including India and China). People tend to be good at however you are taught to think because they spend 20 years in grading system that gives positive reinforcement for thinking that way (or negative reinforcement for failing to do so).

Fair point about parents. And my rant failed one of my own "tests" that I call people out on... the expectations that schools are the only educators in a child's life and parents have no responsibilities there. So thank you for calling me on it. But the point I was trying to make stands... the school system (note I'm not saying "teachers") has been this way for years and the teachers, admin, and PARENTS grew up in that system where critical thinking was not emphasized. Now their kids are growing up in that second generation (or maybe third?) system where critical thinking wasn't taught to the teachers, nor in the administration. By contrast, I grew as first generation that wasn't taught classical education, but my teachers generally were. So while the curriculum didn't necessarily encourage that style of learning, they could flex out and find ways to incorporate it. So the further away you get, the less and less there is going to be. A simple example is learning Latin. It used to be standard (i.e part of classical teaching just like critical thinking). But now only a few people know it. Knowing Latin enhances the understanding of vocabulary and spelling (and I'd imagine helps learning Spanish or Italian). But my generation was quite a ways removed from that being a "norm" in school. Frankly, I didn't even know why someone learned Latin until I had my own kids and started educating myself on teaching methods for their educations' sake. I'm ok with Latin going the way of the Dodo (unless you want to win a spelling bee), but unfortunately, critical thinking is going that way also. So I wasn't trying to knock teachers... or even parents. Once you change the system and stop educating people certain ways, those skills will disappear.

Just like me! Except the exact opposite... I don't hate opera... I've never really experienced it. But I can't imagine sitting and listening to something that you can't at all understand. On the other hand, I did West Side Story as a play in HS and even though I'll forget why I walked into a room, I can belt out "I feel pretty" at the drop of a hat.

Google? You are so old! School not teaching critical thinking has been going on for a LONG time. But there was enough inertia for a few years that people picked it up. Now you have teachers that weren't taught critical thinking and don't even know how to help the kids when stuck... A school system based on multiple guess testing is going to dumb everything down. Even programs like "No child left behind" didn't actually help. Good intentioned, but the school systems reacted by making things easier (i.e. pulling everyone down) instead of adding additional attention to those falling behind to "pull them up" to the standards. Honestly, I think it is time to outsource the school systems. Pouring more money into them and standardizing everything has only made them worse, IMO. All we are doing are buying more gadgets and forcing them into one way of thinking.

I was assuming Khris was the more likely starter to exit the team though I wasn't trying to match salaries or figure out a trade. I was thinking more about the player himself. He is an intensely driven player and a clutch performer... but that often causes problems on his teams eventually. Not sure if he could play with two other big stars on the team or not. I'm also not sure of his perception in the league. Will teams be very reluctant to take him? Could he be a cut candidate instead of a trade (probably the Buck's best chance at picking him up)? Or will the Heat have to eat salary to trade him? Edit - Looks like teams like Phoenix are setting up to trade for him.

Ignoring how we would acquire him... would you take Jimmy Butler on this current Buck's team? Guys with his attitude normally turn me off. When he was with the Wolves, I was always curious about the comments he made about Wiggens and KAT... but then was proved totally correct about those two (especially in their early careers). But I also can't ignore the guys' talent and clutch ability. He seems to eventually sour with a team and turn cancerous, but I tend to think it wouldn't be an issue on the current Bucks. And by the time he turns cancerous, you ship him out and enjoy the 2-3 championships he brings with Giannis and Dame.

Yes. This. I posted my memories on the day it happened after reading several pages of other's comments. It helped to see what others felt about him. Then for the last couple days, I've avoiding reading more (until now). Ueck is the first celebrity that I've really mourned over. I felt sad for others that have passed, but losing Ueck is like losing a bit of my childhood. Not like losing a family member, but certainly more than anyone else that doesn't know me. Maybe our site traffic is down in the offseason, but I think some people like myself are still processing it.

I'm curious where this has been "established"? Certainly the new TV deal means less money than they were getting, but I've not seen anyone quantify this anywhere (or their overall budget in general beyond historical speculations).

The news anchor said it best last night. He was handing off to the sports segment and he said, "With all the other news going on today (president taking office, MLKJ day), I completely forgot that the NCAA football championship was tonight". I think they diluted the importance of it by having far too many games and then running it into the NFL playoffs. If they could keep it the first week of January (like the bowl games used to run), I think they'd find more interest. But as long as they are making $$, it won't change.

Easter Sunday 1987. I was glued to the radio as a 13 year old. That season and that day in specific solidified me as a life-long Brewer fan. Uecker's calls was a big part of that.

But we are here trying to ....debug it! (I'll see myself out!). I'm in the world of Embedded Development (still heavily C based) that has safety related requirements. My company is also the OEM, so when regulation requires us to do requirements, documentation, and testing (guess EXACTLY what I was just talking about between my last post and this one....) to meet the regulatory requirements in order to ship our products. So there aren't many arguments on doing it...just what "good looks like" and how long it will take.

This and quantum computing are reasons I don't invest in crypto. 😉

I'm closing in on 30 years of embedded SW development and management of teams of developers. Knowing AI is a tool and using it wisely when you have a well trained model (both big conditions) makes it powerful and useful. But I fear that instead it will be used to make people lazy and we lose the ability to know what good code actually is... and we end up with mindless zombies flooding bugs into our products.
