  1. I've heard this a few times and frankly I don't understand it. Why wouldn't we want our best infielder to play at the position where he can defensively bring the most value (SS)? Do we think he will suddenly turn into a pumpkin? Do we feel the need to continually bring in post-season awards (GGs, PGs) to ease the pain of not having a WS? Turang to SS really needs to be a consideration this offseason, IMO
  2. There are yearly ebbs and flows of views and now might be low. But mid-season when the trade deadline deals are flowing and the MLB forum is full swing, I think it would be pretty messy to have one forum. I vote to keep it. I was just debating if the MLB forum was the right place for all the individual salary cap posts... or if we could combine them all into one. Not sure I want to read each and every person's ideas on our salary cap...
  3. Yes, he has a $23M cap hit next year, but I can't imagine Aaron wanting to stick around in the midst of a NYJ rebuild. They most likely need to cut Adams next year ($38M cap hit next year and they save about $30M if they cut him). I doubt Aaron will even need to enter his quonset hut meditation chambers to retire or demand a trade/release. I'd be shocked if he was back next year at this point. If the owner wanted him benched in week 5, I doubt he will take him back next year.
  4. Rumors are swirling that the Jets owner wanted Rodgers benched prior to the London game against the Vikings. Saleh and the GM convinced him otherwise. Then Saleh was fired after losing that game without the GM's approval. Now the GM was fired. So how long does Rodgers actually have with the Jets?? I can't imagine he will take to being benched very well.
  5. Yeah, Patrick shouldn't be a surprise. I'm pretty certain someone would've grabbed him for the 5th starter/Long BP role. He is certainly ready to play at the MLB level, so I'm sure someone would've grabbed him. I would assume he wasn't added to the 40 man last year is the same as Henderson's reason - they didn't have to. Mid-Season, when we were having the major rotation struggles, he hadn't shown enough to jump over others (like Myers). Crow would actually be a surprise add, IMO. He is coming off an injury and hasn't pitched above AA (and that was 2023). Not sure that anyone is going to risk it for a middling prospect. Shane Smith is the only other one I'd be curious about. Not a high-end arm, but one ready for a BP role. Those are the guys often grabbed because they are easier to "hide" if necessary.
  6. Jones is the better receiver, but Jacobs is clearly the better runner. I wonder if the last game will change how they use Jacobs as a receiver too?
  7. I was wondering about this... why pick him up in Rule 5 when you could've had him for free? Also would like to wonder if he would be in the top 10-15 Rule 5 options... there are rarely more picked than that.
  8. So I wonder if Longo's firing was more about offensive philosophy, failed execution, or lack of improvement? Failed Execution: This would be an easy one to point to, but he started with zero WRs, TEs, an average OL, and had to play most of the two seasons with a backup QB. WR and TE talent was improved this year. Perhaps a bit more talent on the OL, but not outstanding either. Philosophy: Air Raid was certainly departure from the Alvarez, Bielema, Chryst RB heavy offense for decades. But the execution of it looked different than expected. Perhaps the backup QB constantly shunted those plans? Not sure who the next OC might be, but I wouldn't expect us to go back to the ground-n-pound offense necessarily. Lack of Improvement: My main guess here is that the team simply didn't improve. Felt like we were in neutral most of the time. Never getting better, making the same mistakes... We've had improvement from year 1 to year 2 by bringing in better players but I can't think of too many guys on the offensive side that have improved much from year 1 to year 2.
  9. I realize Jacobs was running well and he ran one in for a TD, but I still don't like running the ball 2x on 1st and 2nd down with 10 yards to the goal line. And I was also one (before the play) to want the FG. All metrics aside, it just felt like the better choice given our TD options (few) and Chicago's red zone D and the flow the game. I like the metrics, but at some point you have to know when to go against them.
  10. Love's int was pretty brutal and game-changing. He now has 11 in 8 games (or 23 in a full season). He really has to figure this out. The game might've been easy but turned into a nail biter because of that. Doubs and Kraft mysteriously disappeared from the game. Not sure if Chicago was able to shut them down or if we just didn't have a good plan? Lack of consistency in the WR outside of Reed is frustrating. Watson got all the oohs and aahs because of 4 big plays, but Jacobs carried the team today. DL - we finally got to the QB that last drive, but I think we celebrated too early. Maybe less posing for the camera and more ensuring your teammates are likewise engaged. Nah... just against NFC North games. 🙄 I think the 49ers would have a harder time executing the same thing. I would assume we played a ton of zone given William's ability to run the ball. Thus wanting the defense staring at the QB instead of running with their backs turned to him.
  11. Well, it's about time! I clearly missed it...🙄
  12. I agree in terms of talent... but they've been lacking in execution. They played right with the Lions and Eagles...aside from their own mistakes (and not the type of mistakes the come from someone outplaying you). They need to play clean and they will be hard to stop.
  13. A great year overall, but he really needs to learn to rest more. He ended the season as a shell of what he was in the beginning.
  14. Nope. It is the offseason and the narrative can only be: We are dumpster diving Mark A is cheap
  15. Never heard of it. Not that I need more social media outlets in my life...
  16. Russell hit the transfer portal before the portal was cool! Might as well include him now since you will see far more of it (either that or never have another "Badger" QB...). I think Tolzien was highly underrated by fans. Not physically great at anything, but the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. Carved out a nice NFL career as a backup too.
  17. So the Brewers would need to offer 7 years $159.99M to keep him? But what about the Twins? 🤔😂
  18. He did say one of Pratt or Made. Whenever they are both at the MLB level, one will have to give or be traded...
  19. Surefire loss seems a bit overstated for Detroit. Clearly underdogs, but still a winnable game. Detroit showed themselves to be more disciplined, but not more talented.
  20. Depends on when he would retire or get cut. Spotract says it must be exercised prior to the 2025 season. So what I posted before would've been post that option. If they were to cut him after the Jets were eliminated (and before the 2025 season starts), His cap hit in 2025 doesn't look much different: I tend to trust Spotract to have those details managed. FYI, the Jets have less than $3M in cap space for 2024 if they were to try this. I suppose Rodgers might be nice and renegotiate to remove the option and then retire later... but I wouldn't hold my breath...
  21. I suppose there might be some legal ramifications where a team can recoup money. I was merely stating that the salary cap rules treat it the same.
  22. Got to kick the trash talking off a little early this week... Nice to have an extra "home game" each year! My favorite line from the Bears Preview article: P Tory Taylor: The rookie punter actually has more punting yards (2,153) than Caleb Williams has passing yards (1,785) in 2024.
  23. Nope. Retiring is the same as being cut as far as cap hits go. The Jets have about $35.5M in cap space next year. In that: Davante is the highest cap hit at $38M but only $8.3M in dead cap if cut Rodgers is second at $23.5M ($49M dead cap) Allen Lazard is 5th at $13.2M ($6.5M dead cap) Backup QB Tyrod Taylor is 9th at $6.8M ($5.7M dead cap) So you could cut Rodgers and Lazard both (which is probably logical) and you'd still have about $17M of cap space to operate... Of course then Davante would want to be traded again...
  24. I think some humbling was necessary for the guy... he was in a good situation with the Pack, but refused to work with new WRs.... and that seems to continue. Not big on schadenfreude, but it is a nice reminder that no matter how good you are, being a team player is still more important. I'm guessing the Jets would need to wait until post 6/1 to cut him:
  25. This actually seems small to me. I would've expected more than that. 0.2/100 pitches equate roughly to 0.3 ERA improvement (100 pitches typically produces 6 IP). That could be just the impact of defense alone. So which is more impactful? Playing in front of a GG defense or the pitching lab?
