  1. I thought it was Bush League too. Great HR, game winner, but it was just as bad as Ramirez in the playoffs last year, or the many Bonds HR's. Mr. Braun is probably getting a very fast reputation as a showboat. I would not be at all surprised, and it would be deserved, if he gets brushed back the next time the Brewers and Cardinals meet.
  2. "92.34" Are you saying you think the Brewers will win 92 games this year? I know this is our team and all, but that's a little crazy.
  3. NL East Phillies and Mets both 90 wins, Phillies take the division, Mets the Wild Card Marlins 81 wins NL Central Cubs 91 wins St. Louis 89 wins Brewers 84 wins NL West Arizona and Los Angeles both with 83 wins, Arizona wins in a playoff Cubs over the Mets Phillies over the Diamondbacks Cubs over the Phillies in a sweep
  4. The Brewers will still have Prince Fielder's services for at least one more full season. I dont see the Brewers allowing his arbitration wins to go past the 2nd time. He will become too expensive to hold onto. He'll be gone after 2009. I wouldnt count on Brad Nelson being the teams next first baseman. I see Errecart as a Lyle Overbay type hitter, which isnt all that bad. But I would keep an eye on Gamel winding up being the 1B of the future for when Prince is gone. Maybe there is a chance that when Prince Fielder does get traded after next year, that they pick up one of the big time first base prospects that went in this year's draft.
  5. Think of it in a different way. We already know about LaPorta an Jackson, Green, etc. What if the Brewers traded Sheets to a team that needed him like the Rays, or Phillies or Red Sox. If it were a trade like what the Brewers Indians did, we could surely get a guy like Jed Lowrie or Ried Brignac and lower level prospects. Heck yeah, I would do that deal. Throw in a Daniel Bard from the Sox or Jeff Nieman from the Rays (if they bit on it) and its definitely worth it. There is still an outside shot that the Brewers could fall in the standings before the end of the month, and they would still consider trading Sheets away. A lot of baseball left to play between now and July 31st.
  6. Hardball times: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/evaluating-the-cc-sabathia-trade/ Does anyone know if there is a site out there that can measure how many of the Brewers runs this year have come off of the HR?
  7. Lincecum could jump up there into that mix too. If Sheets has a slip and Lincecum or Webb really turn it on their next 2 starts, they could be the starters. My pick right now would be Volquez. ROY and CY Young? Would be a great story.
  8. So is it fair then to use this stat when comparing Ryan Braun to Kosuke Fukudome? If it is a measure of the defense behind the pitcher, how come it can be used as a measure of a players offensive prowess (or lack thereof)? It kind of seems like it might be a measure of how well a hitter can "hit them where they ain't".
  9. Here's another stat question. I consider myself to be somewhat knowledgeable about Saber type statistics, but can anyone tell me why in the BA/BIP number, HR's are taken out? And what is the significance of that?
  10. I am keeping tabs on the Brewers regarding this statistic this year (havent updated it in about a week though) and I call it the "Cheeseburger" stat. Stems from the payment required by a batter that strands a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs to the entire team (high school ball). Once I update again, Ill share what I have so far.
  11. This is such a great discussion! There is a similar discussion taking place right now on the Milwaukee Brewers Message Board site and it brings up many of the points being made here. We shouldn't forget about stats like Runs Created or RC/27 or Win Shares when making the argument for or against Ryan Braun. At best, Ryan Braun would be tied for 9th in Win Shares (THT hasnt updated the site yet today), he is 4th in Runs Created, 11th in Runs Created/27 outs and 7th in OPS among National League Outfielders. I have him currently ranked at about the 5th or 6th best NL outfielder, behind Burrell, Ludwick, Bay and McLouth. I think he is just the victim of circumstance in this "all star" race for NL outfielders. Even if he had stayed at 3B this year, he would wind up battling Chipper Jones, who also has better "stathead" numbers (MVP type numbers even).
