  1. Thanks for the backup kramnoj... To answer the previous post, I dont believe that I have undervalued Parra, but at the same time you are undervaluing DeJesus. Parra has upside, yes, but DeJesus is locked up for two years, has speed, gets on base, and is a proven commodity. And for the same reasons mentioned here, he is also worth a pitcher who may never make it, a catcher who regressed in high A this past year offensively and one realistic prospect added to balance it out. I like DeJesus, I dont think that the Brewers can trade pitching either but to get a guy like DeJesus, I think that is what it would take to get him. I think that Teahen could be obtained for the DeFelice/Dillard deal brought up a few posts ago.
  2. I think that it would take a lot more than what some posters here think it would take to get DeJesus. I would love to see him roaming CF and hitting leadoff or 2nd in the Brewer lineup. The problem with getting him on the cheap is that the Royals have the same problem the Brewers do in that they have to protect their cheap, young talent. Imo, it would take Parra to get him, if it were a straight up deal. He was their 2nd biggest offensive producer last year for the Royals, he is under contract for two more years (on the cheap) and he is highly coveted by teams like the Brewers who need obp and top of the batting order presences. If were talking prospects Gamel might work one for one, or start with Jeffress then add on a bunch of very good A level guys including Green or Cain and LuCroy.
  3. I think a good September and being in contention are valuable things to look at when voting for MVP. If I were a voter this year it would have been hard for me to vote Pujols number one even though I believe he was the best player in the NL this year. My vote would have been for Howard. When looking at the merits of an MVP candidate, I do not consider pitchers, and I only look at players that play for teams that are above .500. This is what my ballot would have looked like if it were simply number based: Pujols Berkman Wright Ramirez Ludwick Howard Beltran Utley Delgado Reyes And if you weigh in playoffs, etc: Howard Wright Pujols Utley Braun Aramis Ramirez Berkman Hanley Ramirez Beltran Ludwick
  4. I had the same thought about Braun being 3rd. Apparently drama meant more than substance this year for the voters. I would have had him down near 10th if it was strictly on merit, but since he put up big numbers for a playoff team id put him 5th or so. Pujols, Howard, Wright, Utley, Berkman, Braun, Manny, Beltran, Hanley, Ludwick
  5. I would like the Brewers to pick up either Robinson Cano or Kelly Johnson, both lefthanded, both decent 2B and can be had for the right price. Cano, Cabrera and/or bullpen help for Cameron to the Yankees or Hardy to the Braves for Johnson and Gregor Blanco.
  6. I'm assuming Haudricourt was the one who gave Sabathia the one first place vote. I see today that someone gave Dale Sveum a third place vote for MOY. I'm assuming that he was the culprit there as well. Haudricourt should lose his job over both of those votes!
  7. No longer elite player? Even at age 35 I would am confident enough to say that he is still one of the top 5 players in the entire game. No one has a better arm in the outfield than he, he still has lightning fast speed, and he is one of the best hitters of all time and still is. I would love to see Ichiro in Milwaukee, his defense, his bat and the way he plays the game are all top of the line. But his salary is killer and I think he would be miserable here in Milwaukee.
  8. I would not want to see Hoffman as a Brewer. I think his age and his lack of a dominant out pitch make him very succeptible to the blown save, as was evidenced quite often last year, are big things to consider when dropping big money on a guy like him. I would wonder if Melvin hadnt learned his lesson last year with the Gagne signing when considering Hoffman. As for the belief that the Brewers could pick up Jake Peavy (who doesnt want to come to Milwaukee in the first place) in a deal involving a guy who doesnt have a position to play, is a bit on the ridiculous side. Any deal, if Peavy were to be had by the Brewers would probably have to center on JJ Hardy and include a guy like Jeffress and as many as 3 mid range prospects as well. Its all moot anyway, since Peavy doesnt want to come to Milwaukee. There are starting pitchers out there to be had, ones that would be more affordable, and younger like Nick Blackburn and Glen Perkins of the Twins. Hardy for those two benefits both teams.
  9. If you ever see me post a trade proposal involving Hardy its most likely with the thought that he would play 2B for them or possibly even 3b. Escobar is a far superior SS to Hardy. If the original deal went through it would be to make Hardy their 2B, we get a very nice CF and decent 2B in return, and then you move Cameron to NY for pitching.... You cut salary, fill holes and get pitching...
  10. After reading Baseball Prospectus' Top 11 Prospects article today, I wonder if the Braves wouldnt be willing to unload Gregor Blanco. They claim that Jordan Schafer may be given a chance to be the starting CF for them right out of the gates. That being said, would anyone like a Hardy for Blanco/Kelly Johnson deal, maybe even a mid range prospect thrown in. That would allow the Brewers to deal Cameron freely to the Yankees for pitching help and not worry about taking Melky Cabrera off of their hands.
  11. It all depends on the prospect you are talking about... Hall is nothing better than a throw in for any trade, and actually has negative value in a trade. Morrow is a studa dn Putz is a very nice guy to be the closer. I would do Morrow and Putz in a second for Fielder. The only way you get Beltre too is if you give them a guy like Salome or a couple of the A ball OF from last year...as for Nelson, he doesnt have much value either in a trade....
  12. Dont forget Sean Marshall, he has value, is mlb ready and is cheap. If the Cubs were to offer up Pie, Marshall and Golden Boy, that wouldnt be too far off from what the Brewers gave the Indians for Sabathia. If the Cubs offered up a couple of mid range A guys as well with potential, its a pretty nice deal for the Padres. They get a great defender in CF, a potential ace starter, and a very reliable #4 type of starter and prospects for Peavy. I wouldnt call that robbery at all.
  13. I havent noticed if anyone has thought of this yet, but would anyone go for Cameron for Cano and Brian Bruney? I agree that Cameron has value, but not a ton. He is a very good defender still, but I worry about him aging quickly. He could probably be had one for one involving a guy like Kennedy too, or Jackson.
  14. My mistake, had 4 years on the mind.... Id say he is still out about $15 million over the length of that contract.
  15. Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez both turned down similar offers a few years back while still with the Red Sox, and both of those players' careers went south shortly thereafter. So if we do the math that would have been $15mm in 08, $15mm in 09....he made less than $1mm last year and might get $8 this year. Out over $20 million dollars. Even if he has a huge year this year he doesnt get more than $12 for 2010. By the time that 4 years will have passed he will probably have cost himself about $25 million dollars. He's definitely not the smartest guy on the team, you know?
  16. They can have Hardy straight up to play 2B for him and that would be a pretty good trade in my book.
  17. He looks like more of a little boy than Lincecum does.
  18. I believe that he factored in an inflation rate, and also added a percentage for teams that would need him more than others. I did not feel that the article stated he would be overvalued. It seemed pretty right on to me.
  19. Very interesting article today on Peavy in THT regarding his trade value... They put his net present value at $20 million in a trade, I dont think the Brewers could pull that off even if they wanted to, without giving up big. www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/jake-peavy-trade-analysis/
  20. Youre exactly right on about him in the Pedroia/Youkilis mode. He's a ballplayer. Pete Rose type of guy who just does what has to be done and gets results. What do you think about Ryan Jackson from Miami? There was a time I thought he might be a top 15 type of pick but I havent seen him in any of the top prospects for next year lists at all.
  21. I know that this trade would never happen because of the Marlins' hatred of paying big salary, but does anyone think that Fielder for Nolasco is an even trade? Similar VORP, at the worst the Marlins would throw in another prospect to balance it out...
  22. The guy that I report to isnt really high on Pollock. I loved him but I think, in the opinion of my regional guy, is that he doesnt have the pure tools in place to take him as high as he is projected. He has definitely performed well his first 2 years at ND and had a great summer in Cape Cod, but he isnt the toolsy guy that scouting directors like to take with really high picks.
  23. The full year print edition is pretty expensive, but you do get a free book out of it. Includes something like 38 issues. Runs around $80 per year or so. Its pretty steep, but worth it if you are really into the prospects angle of the game. I actually save them all, got about 3 years worth saved in a pile, and look at them periodically.
  24. If Hardy went to Baltimore I would want at least Radhames Liz or Chris Tillman, and Melvin Mora as a throw in add another lower level prospect and its a deal.
  25. Paul I think Jeffress is destined to be a closer, so to rely on him as a future ace might not be the wisest thing. I dont think he is ever going to get his control to the point where he can be your #1. As for Peavy, yes he has a 5 team wish list and the Brewers are not on it, so the Brewers will probably not pursue him. If they were to pursue him it would probably take Hardy and some of our top prospects destined for AA this year, or a big prospect deal involving Gamel at the very least. His numbers away from Petco dont scare me at all. He is one DL trip away from being the kind of horse that Sabathia was this year for the Brewers, he is definitely worth the pursuit if he is available to the Brewers, as well as the price.
