  1. I thought Bowen's contract was 50% guaranteed. They've already traded Oberto, and could also drop Thomas, so why not keep Bowen? If they release him they pay 50% of his salary and likely spend the other 50% trying to find a replacement that doesn't completely suck. He's still a good defender and the gritty type of player Skiles loves. He could teach the young guys a few things and be a nice bench player for the Bucks. Also, if his play doesn't fall off a cliff, they may be able to turn him into a 2nd round pick at the trade deadline next season. I have a feeling the Bucks will keep Bowen and Thomas, dump Allen and possibly trade Bell. I hope they let both Sessions and Villanueva go and draft a point guard. I think Sessions' lack of a decent jump shot makes him expendable and Villanuava's lack of defense for a guy his size puts him in the same boat. Next year could be rough, but Hammonds comes from a good teacher in Joe Dumars (minus the Iverson trade), and has the knowledge to build a team through the draft and smart free agent signings.
  2. I agree, and will even take it further, he deserves an oppurtunity under any circunstance. He has a career 2.12 ERA. He's at 2.14 this year. He doesn't walk anyone, he pitches to contact, so he would benefit from the Brewers strong defense. Most teams wish they had a pitcher this productive waiting in the wings Wow. I've heard many bring up his name, but I've never looked into his stats. He doesn't walk many or give up many home runs. He would not be any worse than Parra/Bush/Looper right now, so I ask why wouldn't the team call him up? Has anyone who's seen Cody pitch think something in his game would not translate well to the bigs? I still hope the team will make a trade, but this guy can't be all that bad as a 5th starter -- at least on paper.
  3. I think the only way Lee gets traded is if another team blows them away with an awesome package of mostly pitching prospects. The Indians need pitching badly, and trading Lee would kill any chances of them competing next season as nate82 has pointed out. Lee has a reasonable option for next year and I don't think the Indians feel they are bottom dwellers in the division. I do think they will try and move DeRosa in order to acquire some pitching while his trade value is at its peak. I'm just not sure it would be worth what the Brewers would have to give up in order to get DeRosa. A rather see them make a run at a mid level starter and go with McGehee at second.
  4. How about John Lannan? I don't know if Washington would be willing to deal him, but you never know. Parra + Jeffress may do it.
  5. I will take it, but why can't this team win some easy ones? It should have ended in the 9th with Stetter, but I think Macha will be rethinking his usage of Hoffman on little rest.
  6. I just remember hearing Uecker go on and on during a spring training game a number of years ago about "hope springs attorney." I don't know if he originally said it, or if someone said it to him not knowing the actual cliche. It was about 3 innings of Jim Powell cracking up every time Uecker said it. Someone please correct me if I don't have this correct, but that's how I remember hearing it.
  7. You mean "hope springs attorney." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. I agree. I was just proposing a possible motive for Macha to do that. I don't like the idea of Seth going more than 2 innings unless it's a blow out game. I think he's at his best coming in as a 1 inning set up guy, while maybe going 1+ if he's dealing.
  9. I wasn't fond of seeing Seth come out for a third inning either, especially after a shaky 8th. Why not start the 9th with a fresh arm like Stetter? My guess is he hoped to save the rest of the bullpen while stretching Seth out a little in preparation for being the 5th starter.
  10. I like Macha a lot, but he should have known better. Stetter should have been in there.
  11. That's actually pretty good. I appreciate a good heckle as long as it's creative and curse free. I'm sick of hearing "Player X Sucks."
  12. Quick, go for another bike ride! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. I agree Gallardo is a stuf #1 but no one else is even close to a #2 or maybe even a #3 on this team right now. If Lee or Bedard becomes available I think they have to get one of them. Can you imagine how good this team could be if they had two starters they could count on every time out? The bullpen and offense will be fine the rest of the way, they just cannot continue to have four out of five questions marks as the season goes on. Adding a Bedard or Lee will win this team a weakening Central.
  14. The Brewers cannot let the Central get away from them. The bleeding needs to stop right now. How can an entire pitching staff look so good and then collectively look so bad? One #1 and four #4/5's won't cut it anymore. Make a trade and get someone who can pitch, Melvin! PS - I refuse to believe the consistent horrible performance on national tv is merely a coincidence. They don't just lose, they embarrass themselves.
  15. I'm sure the people at ESPN just think Milwaukee is a suburb of Buffalo.....or it's in Canada. I mean, give them a break. They're from the east coast so most of their time is spent puffing out their chests and treating Black Lung.
  16. Anyone else watching DirecTV HD have their sound delayed?
  17. If it weren't for those damn umpires and media types hating on Milton Bradley, he would have known how many outs there were yesterday. Did anyone see the post game interview? He acted as if it was no big deal and stated that he was not embarrassed. To his credit he said he had done a lot in the past to be embarrassed about, but this was not one of those incidents. I guess when you're a moron most of the time, something like this would be pretty low on the totem pole.
  18. Is it just a coincidence that all these articles/postings stating how false the rumors are come out right after there's word that Peavy is going to the DL? Me wonders.
  19. If Glavine still has something left in the tank, would it be worth going after him to upgrade our pitching some, and then use the saved money and prospects to go after a decent bat? It wouldn't be an improvement like a Peavy or Bedard, but with the offense struggling a bit lately, maybe upgrading Hart, Hall or Kendall would be worthwhile instead. Parra could then be sent to AAA to get himself right and be a call up in case of an injury, or when he shows that he's figured himself out.
  20. Melvin, Macha and Castro certainly should get the lions share of kudos for this year's bullpen performance. But I think the x factor that has allowed it to all come together so well is Hoffman. The rest of the bullpen literally seemed to improve right before our eyes the moment Hoffman started pitching regular season games. The improvement was noticed most of all in Villanueva. Being a similar style pitcher, Carlos has looked night and day since the start of the season and I feel he now looks better than he ever has. Hoffman's wisdom and work ethic has really seemed to rub off on the rest of the guys, and Carlos is looking like a mini Hoffman. I wonder how well the rest of the bullpen would be if Hoffman were replaced with someone else who had equally dominating stats, but went about his business like any regular pitcher? It's like having an extra pitching coach/motivater out there with Hoffman. I think that's why he's the team MVP so far this year.
  21. This cannot be happening again. It's just a bad dream.
  22. I would bet the Brewers have been involved in more bases loaded walks (giving and taking) than any other team this season.
  23. If he clears waivers and declares free agency, then I'd say sign him for under $1mil and use him to fill in if Parra continues to struggle, or another pitcher goes down. I wouldn't want to trade for him and have to pay that salary unless they took Hall or Suppan, which would free up the Brewers for next year. I highly doubt that would ever happen. What's the club buyout for 2010?
