  1. It is much more than just 1 play for Weeks. It is an entire season. Look at his stats and then look at another option on the bench who plays the same position.
  2. What does that have to do with anything? I know some very hard workers and some extremely nice people. They have everyday jobs and do not play professional baseball. I am sure Weeks is really nice...that doesn't mean I want him to be starting on the brewer team I want to make the playoffs.
  3. It is to bad we don't have another option for 2nd base. It would be nice to have a guy who hit .290 and had an OBP of .380 there to replace him. O wait..we do. When will Ned wake up?
  4. CC is getting NO help tonight. Hall late to cover. wow.
  5. IMO a manager has a smaller impact on a game than most people think. The goal of a manager should be to put the team in the best position to win every game and have the best record possible at the end of the year. Ned fails to do this many times. I give him a C-. He doesn't hurt us as much as some might think, but he is definetly not helping either.
  6. 1st base is the easiest position to fill. I would not worry about finding a replacement for Prince. Worst case scenario cant Gamel can't handle 3rd, Hart can't handle center, and Gamel moves over to 1st. If not, it will not be overly difficult to find a decent one somewhere.
  7. Mark does not need the money. All he should want it to do is cash flow. This investment is better than most as it is fun as well. The appreciation on owning the brewers makes it more than worth it financially.
  8. I never said Harden wasn't better. I just took his 1st 4 starts away to show you it is much closer than what you were making it out to be. It is close...unlike what you said.
  9. How can you say CC is not close to as good as Harden when healthy? Last year CC was amazing. If you take CC's 1st 4 starts away this year his numbers are just as good as Harden's. You know little about baseball if you say there is "no way" we can beat the cubs.
  10. wow, this is either a bad deal for Oakland or we got screwed in the CC trade.
  11. I can remember 2 or 3 times this year where Ned has had to go with the same reliever 3 days in a row and overworked that player. On that 3rd day they gave up a few runs and were a big factor in losing the game. I did not see you account for CC averaging about 1 inning per start more than Bush and saving the bullpens arms. I can live with saying he is worth 2.5 wins, but I still believe it is around 3.
  12. Well, if the Patriots wouldn't have cheated so bad the last 10 years maybe they wouldn't have been so dominant. Baseball needs some sort of cap.
  13. Lets assume rluzinski is right that CC is worth only 2 games (IMO he is worth 3 or 4 when you factor in the bullpen savings). Lets also assume the brewers and cubs are playing exactly to their potential and will continue their winning % the rest of the way. That would result in the cubs final record being 97-65 and the brewers record being 90-72. Adding CC would put us at 92-70. Just for fun lets say we added 2 more pitchers at CC's level. That would put us at 96-66 based on CC only being worth 2 games. So based on rluzinski saying CC is worth only 2 games, we could have a rotation of Sheets, CC, CC, CC and Parra for the final 74 games and if everyone else played as they have been we wouldn't even win the division. I find that hard to believe.
  14. Next year is not necessarily going to be a down year. If we did not do this trade we would have lost Sheets but gained Yovanni. IMO not that big of drop considering Sheets injury history (I realize Yovanni is also injured but that was a freak injury and it looked horrible as well). We will also likely be adding Gamel somewhere. IMO we can still compete for the playoffs next year assuming we are able to pick up a few solid free agents with the money gained from the players we lose.
  15. How many months was it between the time Yovanni got injured and the playoffs?
  16. I really hope they did not replace Cain with a better prospect.
  17. I just hope Jack Z is still around for next years draft.
  18. Well if this does go through I would like to think with 12 picks combined in the 1st 2 rounds of last draft and next years draft we could restock our minor league system. We also need to lock Hart up long term. It is tough to see LaPorta go based on his talent and the fact that from all reports he is a real good guy...but IMO it will not hurt our future as much as one might think based on the fact we already stacked at the position he plays.
  19. I do not think anyone wants to give up LaPorta. Also, I would like to know what you mean by "give up the future"? Are you trying to indicate that without LaPorta the Brewers future is shot? Right now we have Braun in left for another 8 years and Hart in right and hopefully we can lock him up in a long term deal. We also have Fielder at 1st and if he is traded we have Gamel who will probably have to move over to 1st. Our future is still bright with or without LaPorta. The positions he plays are filled with good young players. The thing that really hurts is once we get rid of him we no longer have a piece of his value to trade for another pitcher who would be here for awhile. Also, it is not just about making the playoffs. It is also about winning the world series. (pared back nested quote --1992)
  20. At this point I would say experience playing 1st base means very little. 1st base is one of the easiest positions to play. Gamels problem at 3rd is not him fielding the ball, it is his throwing accuracy. He has good range at 3rd. IMO he would be able to move over to 1st and be a solid 1st baseman, the only reason he hasn't is because there is still a chance he could become a solid 3rd baseman defensively. You are right that Laporta does walk more, but he also strikes out more. LaPorta has a walk ever 6.7 ABs, Gamel has a walk every 9.2 ABs. It might be a stretch to say he walks "far more frequently". I think both will be good players, I was not trying to be negative toward LaPorta.
  21. The problem with signing both of them would be that they would be 50% of our payroll. It is not a given we would be able to unload them in a few years. If one or both of them turn into average pitchers because of an injury or age we are basically stuck with their contract and have little room to do anything. Boston and the Yankees may have a lot of money, but they are not going to trade for a guy making 20 mil a year if they become only average or injured. In a perfect world where you were guaranteed great production out of them and no injuries, signing them would be great, but unfortunatly that is not the case.
  22. IMO Gamel projects as a better all around player. A bit more athleticism so if he were to move to the outfield he should atleast be solid there. IMO he also projects to have a BA/OBP a quite a bit higher than LaPorta with only a bit less power.
