  1. I am not sure if there are other reasons but I can say with 100% confidence that carrying 80 pounds of extra fat will lower your ability as a baseball player. When you look at his horrid defense and extremely slow speed on the bases, he is probably the 5th best all around position player on the team (behind Braun, Hart, Hardy and Cameron). I want no part of him long term.
  2. You only need 3 starters in the playoffs. I would take CC, Sheets, and Parra against anyone and I do not think anyone will want to face us either. The cubs have better pitching depth which could help, but our front end is as good as anyones. Their bigger advantage is on us will be offense. They do not have a Craig Counsell type player at 3rd base.
  3. Hitting is only a part of the game. His defense and slow base running cost us many runs a year. If you look at his overall value...imo he is just a slighlty above average 1st baseman. His OPS is only 8th in the MLB this year, so it is not like he is an extreme standout as an offensive 1st baseman. His defense at 1st is close to the worst. His speed and baserunning as a 1st baseman is close to the worst. IMO teams will overvalue him and we could get better value for him than he is worth.
  4. Another example of how slow Prince is. His size cost the team another run. No excuse for not scoring from 1st with 2 outs when the left fielder miss plays the ball.
  5. Really it should not even matter if he if he can run faster than most people on this board. Most people are not given the opportunity to train and play 160+ games per year that he is given. If they did, I bet more people would be in better shape. We all realize Prince was born with a lot of natural talent that has got him where he is. My entire issue with Prince is he is not coming close to maximizing his talent as an all around baseball player....that is impossible to do when you are carrying around 60 pounds of extra fat. There is a reason his range and defensive ability is horrible. His value to this team could be so much more.
  6. He has definetly gained some weight...not 50 pounds though. My biggest problem with his weight is I just feel like it shows a lack of committment. Position players in baseball are really dependent on being in top shape to be as quick as possible. It is no surprise that Prince is an absolutely terrible 1st baseman with all the weight he is carrying. He also has to be pushed around the bases basically to score. When you are getting paid millions based on what your body can do I think it is unacceptable to be fat...and lets not compare him to an NFL lineman as it is often times a benefit to be real big for what they do.
  7. I feel bad for Tampa Bay. They are having a great season and then get hit bad with injuries. Hopefully they can hang on and not let the Yankees pass them.
  8. If your primary goal is wanting to see the Brewers make the playoffs and have a chance at a world series, you have to want the cubs to win. We do not need to win the division to make the playoffs. IMO at this point we are much more likely to make the playoffs by the wildcard. The cubs are a very good team and have 5 games on us. I know anything can happen, but I definetly like the cubs chances of finishing in front of us. The brewers team has some definite holes (bullpen, hitting with RISP, and ability to play small ball), I do not think we catch the cubs. That said, I think we can hold on to the wild card assuming no other team goes on a ridiculous win streak.
  9. Escobar has 18 doubles, 4 triples and 8 HRs on the year. While not having tons of power, he is not a Craig Counsell. I think he will be an above average defensive shortstop and at this point a slightly below average offensive SS (unless he continues to improve). I think the Brewers need to make a decision on what to do. If the staff is really high on Escobar I personally think it makes more sense to trade JJ if the right offer comes because I think if he moves to 2nd or 3rd he somewhat limits his value.
  10. I agree Counsell should not be getting ABs at 3rd based on our other options. Ned being Ned.
  11. I am excited about Lawrie. Hopefully he can settle in a position (c, 2nd, or 3rd) and continue to hit up to his potential. The positions he players are either really important positions or positions we need good prospects at. I think he has a bright future.
  12. I do not think they should rush Gamel to the majors. If he continues to show improvement bring him up at about the same time of year they brought up Braun next year. Escobar should stay down for awhile as well to continue to work on his bat. No need to hurry him with Hardy here (unless they are able to trade him for good value). I think in the end to maximize value they need to decide on who to keep between JJ and Escobar. I believe you can get better value in a trade for JJ than to move him to 2nd or 3rd which would somewhat limit his value. I do not understand why people get so frustrated with Cameron. He has played very well defensively this year. We do not need 8 good offensive players and not worry about defense. We have a bunch of below average defenders (with Fielder being terrible), we need some good defenders to balance it out. Cameron is not our problem. We need more players who will play small ball, but Cameron is here for his defense.
  13. If I were the Diamondbacks I would be extremely happy with this deal.
  14. I have been on a lot of teams since I was about 5 years old. When I was about 9 I got into it with a teamate during a practice playing hockey. Since then I have grown up and not got into it with a teamate...and I have been on a lot of teams. We don't need to make excuses for Prince. My coach when I was 9 years old didn't, and I do not think a major league baseball player should be held to lower standards than a 9 year old.
  15. Reasons I dislike Prince: 1. Boras is his agent..won't sign longterm with Milwaukee 2. He is beyond horrible with his glove. 3. Got in a fight with and hit a young, talented starting pitcher on his own team in his upper body and throwing shoulder 4. Is out of shape and fat...really if I was getting paid millions to be an athlete you better believe I would not be 70 pounds overweight. He has a lot of natural ability but his desire to eat has limited his all around potential.
  16. What did you expect, we had a runner in scoring position.
  17. As Ned said, "you can't teach power". That explains why the best part of our offense is hitting home runs.
  18. Parra probably took away Fielders food he had hidden in the dugout. I am beginning to like Fielder less and less...how about you spend your energy on a treadmill trying to lose weight instead of getting in fights with teamates.
  19. 1. Braun 2. Hardy 3. Yovanni 4. CC 5. Parra
  20. I absolutely hate pitchers not being able to throw strikes. Especially in a situation like this.
  21. O my, here we go again. We are terrible with runners in scoring position.
  22. There we go. See, you don't need to swing for the fences every time to get on base.
  23. The brewers approach at the plate continues to be bad. It is getting old.
  24. In AA, Braun had 19 Errors in 59 games. This year Gamel has 25 errors in 109 games. Per game Gamel has had much fewer errors compared to Braun in AA. Gamel is still not very good, but I think to a certain extent he is still living off his reputation from last year, when he was horrible. He has improved a quite a bit since then.
