1. And this is why some cable ISPs been talking about surcharges for higher bandwidth users. They've even piloted it in select markets and naturally, everyone's thrilled about paying more for what was sold to them as an unlimited service. I think it's lose-lose for cable companies here. They'll lose their share of cable viewers to those who turn to the internet, and when they compensate by jacking the rates of internet users, they'll lose those customers too. Since they're already losing customers to satellite, if it's not already it's gotta be becoming a negative-growth industry really soon, right? I've been getting my programming OTA for almost a year now. Thank you to whichever previous owner who installed the roof antenna hooked up in my attic. 100% signal strength, on all channels. Sweet. Cable tv just wasn't worth what I was paying for how little we watched it. (That's right... I pay, we watch!) My blu-ray player streams Netflix and Blockbuster, and also offers YouTube and Pandora service. I think I'm set for the near future.
2. Just the two laptops I own. Same issue on both. It tells my computers I'm still connected, but I can't get to any other location in my house or online. It's just shot. I took the thing apart and re-assembled just for the hell of it earlier. We'll see how long this goaround lasts. Once it goes down again, I'm going on newegg in search for a new one. Thanks for all the suggestions though.
3. When my wireless internet is down (but connection is up), I am still able to connect to the internet through the wired portion of my router with no issues whatsoever.
4. Yeah as much as I hate TimeWarner and would like to blame them, I'm certain they're not the source. I encounter the same issue on my older XP laptop as well as my regular Vista laptop, so it's definitely the wireless aspect of the router itself.
5. Hmm. I do have a 4-port switch connected to it that services my living room. I added one extra device (BluRay player) to that recently, but that shouldn't be the death of it seeing that it connects to the internet only once in a while. I don't torrent, but I run into this issue regardless of how much bandwidth I'm using. As far as uptime goes, I've had it up for almost 48 hours once, but recently it's been down 2-to-3. Also, it's a secured network, so I'm pretty sure no one else is on it, but I'll try maybe changing the key. It's in my basement, so overheating isn't an issue. It's plenty dry down there too. It's over 5 years old at this point. Probably about time to throw in the towel on it. I'm surprised it's lasted half this long, to be honest.
6. Hello. I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router that seems to be on its last legs. It's recently decided to randomly drop the internet connection on wireless only (if I test on the desktop, everything is still fine) that only gets fixed by a router reboot. I've cycled through the modem and reset the router countless times, and it keeps dropping after a set amount of time. Once it's down, I can ping the router and google.com somewhat successfully, but it fails once or twice a test. Seeing that I still stay connected to the router after the internet part goes down, this is an internal issue that is beyond an easy repair, right? It's on the latest firmware (circa 2006). I just want confirmation before I go out and spend an extra $50 on a new one.
7. This thread rules. Just to follow up on some other people's unfinished thoughts for 2007, Wincing the Night Away is and always was underwhelming, Neon Bible was just okay, Our Love to Admire (Interpol) is embarrassingly bad, and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is still awesome. Last CD I bought was Talking Heads - Fear of Music.
8. There's many links on Google that say the iPhone's exclusivity contract with AT&T ends in mid-2010, so there's certainly reason to believe it could happen.
9. Me too. The 24th and 31st are holidays at my work, so I just needed to take 3 days off to make it an 11-day vacation. First time I've had a X-mas vacation since college, but the lack of work then was unpaid. I've been lacking ambition for the better part of a week now. Next week should be brutal.
10. Oh yes. We have all learned our lessons.
11. Yeah, if HD from TW really was free, they'd send them through in-the-clear instead of encrypting them and forcing you to lease their crappy box. Although I believe the cost is the same between the HD and non, their Free HD slogan is nothing more than a marketing scam. I really hated that box. The interface was clunky as hell.
12. Mountain Dew Throwback is apparently available now. My wife picked some up at Pick n Save.
13. I had Charter service in La Crosse before getting TimeWarner in Milwaukee. Charter was far superior with regards to reliability and quality of product. The "DVR" TimeWarner leases out is embarrassing compared to Charter's Moxi box. Their interface had a one-second delay on everything. Just wasn't worth what I was paying for, so I dropped it alltogether. Still have their internet service, but I'm inclined to go elsewhere for that too.
14. Nothing beats my giant roof antenna lodged in my attic installed by previous owners. Considered dropping cable for a while now and I was ecstatic to find out that I could wire that thing correctly. No reception issues whatsoever. Of course there's somewhat of a dearth of watchable channels, but I get by.
15. I thought the pacing of last night's episode was a bit frenetic, but it's always good to see another Perd Hapley sighting. A crucial point to this year's revival is further taking Leslie away from Michael Scott territory of intrepid incompetency that they seemed to paint her with in season 1. With that in mind, last night's b-plot of everyone frantically trying to do her work as she wades through the "scandal that wasn't" was a nice touch. Andy's gift ideas for April's gay boyfriend were awesomely stereotypical. In other news, GQ has named Parks & Recreation their "Sitcom of the Year". Also noteworthy is that ?uestlove of the Roots deems Parks & Rec to be the Wu Tang of comedy. Aziz Ansari (Tom) wraps it up here.
16. Telling Michael confidential information meant nothing to David Wallace. He was out no matter what. I don't think it's that big of a sin considering the context. I thought this was the one episode of recent times that they toned down the caricatures of the main characters, save for Michael. (But his sarcastic Jesus bit on the karaoke mic was well worth it.) Dwight was his vintage self, not the evil genius cartoon character he's been since Jim got promoted, although he noted in a talking head that he'll be back to being a jerk after the holiday. Jim was back to being witty ("I think we covered that Creed. Lump of coal.") and competent (not completely bungling the Phyllis as Santa situation) and his interaction with Dwight as part of the PPC was a welcome callback. Lots of great one-liners in this episode and a Bob Vance cameo.... what's not to love? Also, don't know if anyone caught Community last night, but the bully was awesomely played by Anthony Michael Hall. I didn't recognize him at all. The beginning of the fight scene was absolutely hilarious, by the way.
17. Best of the year by far, and best X-Mas episode since Yankee Swap. The end of the cold opening when Dwight uttered his "this has been a successful unveiling" line just had me in stitches. Consistently funny from start to finish. Good job, Mindy Kaling.
18. For those of you that missed out, you can catch up with season 2 in its entirety at [nbc.com]http://www.nbc.com/parks-...-2/1158001]nbc.com or Hulu from now through January 17th. Usually they only make the last 5 episodes available.
19. I watched 15 minutes of it and thought it was absolutely terrible, although I'm probably outside its key demographic. It's on opposite Modern Family, so that made just ignoring it an easy choice for me.
20. What's bugging me now: I went to the grocery store to get said cheese and left without getting any. I got distracted from my mission when my 19 month old boy started running off in the store. I think he's in on the conspiracy. My wife gets bonus demerits for adding to my mental shopping list of one item.
21. 1. Bob Dylan - Chimes of Freedom 2. Death Cab for Cutie - What Sarah Said 3. New Pornographers - Jackie 4. Elliott Smith - I Better Be Quiet Now 5. Rush - New World Man 6. 22. We are out of cheese. I asked my wife since I shoveled the driveway if she would get some cheese. She says no. She ends up going to the library without telling me and fails to return with cheese. A mere book about cheese would have sufficed. But no...
23. That's about what I woke up to in Brown Deer. What a pain to shovel.
24. I thought the MSPC run of episodes was among the best The Office has done, but they've been seriously outclassed this year. Even if Parks & Rec reverts to back to the Amy Poehler Show of season 1, they've made so much positive ground and goodwill in my eyes that there's no way season 6 of the Office can catch up.
25. This show has been funnier than the Office all season. Greg Daniels & Mike Schur are sorely missed back in "Scranton".
