  1. But it's his responsiblity to make something happen since 2005, and nothing has. Now because of his advisors and his choices, were going to have to live with the errors of his way. Tom Barrett is the mayor of Milwaukee. US45 is a federal highway. I'm not making the connection here. Madison has tuned out Milwaukee for years. No urging one way or the other is going to make much of a difference. If Barrett's responsible for this, then so is the executive of the county the interchange runs through.
  2. It's not as if it's been some drastic change in character, Michael's been low brow and sophomoric from the beginning. Sure we can demand growth and maturity, but Michael being Michael is what makes the office "The Office". Point --- hasn't 30Rock dropped off a cliff or do I just keep catching half-assed episodes by random chance? I'm not a consistent watcher of the show until it comes out on DVD. I thought the last half of season 3 really lagged though, save for a few that were among the best they've ever done (Apollo, Apollo comes to mind).
  3. I have to say I really didn't care much for Lateralus. Blasphemy! I have only seen Tool live a couple times but I think their music in concert is even better than on CD. This is true, and ridiculously impressive considering the complexity of their music. I will say the one Tool concert I've been to was probably the 2nd best concert I've attended.
  4. Clearly 10,000 Days wasn't as good as its predecessor, but let's face it, everything would be a letdown after Lateralus. But I think if you take Lateralus out of the equation, 10,000 Days holds its own. 10,000 Days was actually their first release that I didn't think was their best ever at the time, but I'd probably rank it above Undertow. And I think their legacy should be defined by the height of their highs over their quantity of releases. But that may be a bit over-reliant on the fact that I consider Lateralus to be the best release of the 2000s out of anyone/everyone. As for Puscifer, I was a bit intrigued but can't afford to go to everything that piques my interest so I haven't done any legwork on it. If you end up going, I'd be interested in hearing how it went. (God, I'm a sucker for music conversations...)
  5. I liked last week's better, but they've been on a roll ever since the return of Todd Packer to the screen in the closing moments of the episode 2 weeks ago. I've given up on any semblance of realism involving Michael, so I actually found the whole 'Date Mike' concept was actually quite funny. I mean, the guy keeps a Kangol in his trunk just in case a night out turns into a date. That just cracks me up. The Japanese warehouse guy's monologue at the end tonight was great, too. Craig Robinson in the background really sold it for me. Did they ever show Creed in the bar? If not, what a missed opportunity.
  6. possibly the funniest episode they've done. Surely you haven't seen "Ron & Tammy" then. That's the gold standard for me. Anyways, I enjoyed this one too. In a perfect world I'd be able to use April's photoshopped parks directors photo as my avatar. Heck, as my drivers license photo. It felt to me that the Tom/Mark/Ann subplot was just used as something to foreshadow Paul Schneider's eventual exit from the show. Not really believable that either of them would be up for a photo shoot, in spite of the reason given. That's just being nitpicky though. Any episode with a hefty dose of Ron is a surefire winner.
  7. Just this past month or so we've gotten an NRA promotional DVD intended for the dude who sold the house to the previous owners and a placard for the "Michigan Womyn's Music Festival" intended for one of the two women we bought our house from. I have an equal amount of disinterest in both.
  8. I really like how they were able to use this episode as to fill in the backstory of why Jerry is always the butt of jokes. The part where they were all trying to hold it in as he butchered his presentation with his patented Jerry-ness was classic. I didn't really like Andy Samberg playing 'Voice Immodulation Guy', but they played it well with the bird scene and his Avatar discussion coming full circle on Pawnee Today. He also had this awesome exchange w/ Tom in the golfcart: Carl: We used to have three cars actually. The first one got pushed into the creek by some kids. The second one raccoons got onto... there was urine everywhere. And the third one was recently stolen.Tom: What’s this one?Carl: This is the second one. The raccoon piss one. I love this show.
  9. Wow! That was the Office's funniest episode in I don't know how long. Best of the season for me. Money quotes: "Trash? Its code. Meredith, take your dress off!""Hey! There's nothing I can do about my wide-set eyes.""People love shells from far away beaches.""Jim, Don't use your cute baby to make us like you" ... "She's wearing a onesie."
  10. Good call. WMLW is 58.2, by the way.
  11. I was a bit underwhelmed, but they get bonus points for the return of Todd Packer. It's been a long time coming.
  12. Rickie Weeks. Love the fact that he's always giving 100%.
  13. See, that's the type of thing that really annoys me. There's no way in heck that happens in any sort of alternate reality remotely resembling this one. Oh, it annoys me too, but I just wanted to point out that there's precedence. After all, this is the same guy who set up his own employee drug task force of one after finding a joint in the parking lot.
  14. The fact that Community gets 400K more viewers than P&R just baffles me. Community's last episode was outstanding and probably their best, but they've never been able to consistently hit the highs of Parks & Rec, and I personally find their setting and group dynamic to be a bit too cliched. (BTW, why would a disbarred lawyer go enroll in a community college?) Anyone turning switching the channel or turning off their TV after Abed & Troy's credit skits is doing themselves a disservice. Especially if they're coming back a half hour later for The Office. I think the worst thing going for Parks & Rec is their "from the creators of The Office" stigma. If people hadn't been force-fed The Office as a measuring stick for P&R's first season, maybe the show would be better off. Of course there is a lot indebted to The Office, but right now, Parks & Rec is just doing what The Office does so much better. They should be comparing them now... In other Parks & Rec news, Rob Lowe is reportedly joining the cast for the last 2 episodes of season 2 and an extended run into season 3.
  15. It's a girl, so we went with JerMichael-a. (Ok not really, but she's great.)
  16. I love the supreme douchebaggery of JeanRalphio. It's like a Tammy-mention, anytime they're in the episode, it's a surefire winner.
  17. But the writing just continues to be so damn poor. I'm just shocked at how predictable the writers have become. Breastfeeding the wrong baby Breastfeeding the wrong baby was predictable? Many moments in the Jim/Pam arch have been moments of pathos, love, and drama instead of straight up comedy. Because of the "Jim + Pam doesn't always have to be funny precedent", ---which, let's face it, has been much more prevalent in their combined screentime lately--- this worked wonderfully for me. I also enjoyed Jim's juvenile response to the male lactation consultant. Dwight and Michael stopping to say where they saw a deer on the side of the road while Pam is in freakin labor. This I thought was really funny because it was so ridiculous. I thought Dwight had more good than bad overall. The overly cartoonish pull-over scene with Dwight ditching weapons out the side of his car was made up for by his "Bear my child" demand to Angela. Also, I think Dwight ripping up Jim's kitchen after finding mold is completely within character. I got to admit though, my perception of this episode may be influenced by our own delivery 7 hours later...
  18. I've been watching a lot of Sesame Street recently with my son. I now understand why kids unconditionally worship Elmo.
  19. It's stupid that they'd even consider phone interview on TV with today's technology. They got what they deserve.
  20. I dropped cable last year due to budget constraints and the fact that I was watching a bit too much mindless crap. This is what's left: How I Met Your Mother --- The only show still on with a laugh track I can tolerate, primarily because it's actually funny. (Take that Big Bang Theory!) Great use of flashback humor that's really rewarding for repeat viewings and longtime fans. Modern Family --- Every time I think this show is getting a bit too schlocky and too formulaic, they reel me back in by the end of the episode with an unanticipated "twist". Community/Parks & Rec/The Office --- I have a tradition of catching up w/ 30 Rock all in one sitting, plus it's difficult for me to allot 2 straight hours of TV with commercials, so it's just these 3 for me on Thursdays. If I have to miss one, it's usually Community as it often conflicts w/ my son's bedtime and it's just not as good. I've been a big cheerleader for season 2 of Parks & Rec. Anyone who gave up after the mediocre first season has missed out on free TV's best comedy this year. The Office really has paled in comparison, but I'm looking forward to the return of the old dynamic between Jim/Dwight. Community is good for a show in it's first season, but lacks the depth of the others. NFL Football --- As long as it's still free, this is how I will spend my Sundays in the fall. Also, 58.4 ShorewestTV --- Okay so I can't entirely avoid the mindless crap... I'd like to get into House and Fringe again, but their airtimes conflict with HIMYM and The Office, so it's a no-go there without a Tivo and I find it hard to Hulu hour-long dramas.
  21. Taking advantage of Netflix streaming, I put on Hoop Dreams tonight. A very good documentary that somehow wasn't even nominated for an Academy Award, it follows the tales of two inner-city Chicago kids from 14-year-old phenoms to their divergent paths to the next level.
  22. I'd love to see the 00s if only to see the (deserved) venom for Crash. Worst selection ever.
  23. Hey Robert, I wanted to let you know I've really enjoy this thread over the years. So just the other day I was thinking about how badly American Beauty has aged since it came out and am currently re-watching The Insider. That got me to wondering, are you planning to keep on going into the 90s or is that the prequel mentioned in post 1?
  24. I'd save the "art" of booing for the "genius" of Larry the Cable Guy...
  25. I just won 2 tickets to see the Sound Opinions radio show at the Pabst in Milwaukee next Friday. Nerdy and awesome. They're the only type of talk radio I'll ever listen to.
