  1. I love Piggy's in La Crosse. Excellent fare.
  2. I've parked several times at the Ashwaubenon Village Hall on Holmgren Way. $5 to park and the best part is you get access to the hall's indoor plumbing if the need arises after a bit of tailgating.
  3. If the forum is billable by the number of pageviews wouldn't it be more beneficial for the default replies per page to be set to the maximum, thus minimizing the total pages to be viewed? I'm not necessarily advocating for change here, I'm just curious, that's all.
  4. Not wearing shoes is going to put the Cubs at a serious disadvantage though... If that's truly the case then I'm confident that the division will be there for the taking!
  5. Don't ever cross the almighty Tom: Not only is a supreme master of journalism, but now he knows everything there is to know about blogs. Get off your high horse, dude. If he had half the dedication to the subject in which he covers as he does in defending his biased comments in a fit of misplaced rage and unabashed fury, maybe his product would be remotely readable.
  6. I'm not a regular reader of TH by any means, I just happened upon his post in a slow day at the office. But I don't think it's unrealistic to expect the guy to exhibit at least a modicum of professionalism. My issue isn't necessarily Tom Haudricourt, he's a lost cause of mediocre drivel. It's the fact that the newspaper holds their Brewers coverage to the basest of standards and allows this sort of conduct out their most public and tenured of Brewer reporters. I'd never expect as much from Bob McGinn on the Packer end. I hardly think me not wanting to encounter a gentleman berating his readerbase is wholly unacceptable, but it goes deeper than that. Why does Haudricourt continue to interject their personal opinion into game recaps, which should be nothing but the facts? How is this an acceptable form of journalism? I don't care if the dude gets criticism left and right at the office from his constituents, as much of it is deserved due to his shoddy and biased reporting. But I don't want him gone as much as I want a better product.
  7. That's just like saying "This poop is better because it doesn't have flies." Just because he's not the worst, doesn't absolve him from criticism. The whole lot of them are just terrible and Brewers fans deserve better. I don't care what TH writes anymore, but there should be some form of responsibility. I agree 100%. Even if Haudricourt was 'far and away the best', which is debatable, his biased reporting and inappropriate interactions with his readers is still completely unacceptable. Why should we have to settle for his mediocre content and shameful conduct?
  8. Please don't tell me how I feel. Again, this has nothing to do with Rickie Weeks. I'm mostly irritated because Tom Haudricourt fails to do his job: a) in a respectable manner while retaining journalistic integrity. b) with any semblance of professionalism. Sorry if my expectations dissapoint some, but I don't think they're in any way outrageous.
  9. It is a reporter's job to remain objective. Opinions are for columns, not recaps, and it's always appreciated if they were based on facts, not distorted realities. The fact that this particular opinion came about as part of user-interaction speaks volumes of his professionalism. You honestly don't think anyone else on the staff could do what Tom does without antagonizing their readerbase? All 4 of the J-S's Packer writers manage to remain above the scrum with a much more rabid fanbase. Why can't their Brewers writers follow suit?
  10. It's not that he wrote it, it's how he wrote it. It's 'Big Boy TimeTM'? Completely unprofessional. And anyone who dares disagree with him is the president of such-and-suches fan club? Give me a break. This 'I'll-state-my-opinion-by-sneaking-in-an-unnecessary-jab' he continues to place in his game stories is total tabloid BS. It's uncalled for. That's what's holding them back from being the paper they aspire to be. At least the AP, which is always just run of the mill caliber reporting, can tell it straight. The fact that Haudricourt is blatantly attacking his readers might be tolerated if he had a journalistic leg to stand on, but unfortunately, he does not. This all really deserves it's own topic.
  11. This issue has nothing to do with Rickie Weeks, as much as some people want it to be so they can continue to rip on him. As an aside, it's comical how the 'what-have-you-done-for-me-lately crowd can continue ignore his recent performance in the name of convenience. I just refuse to accept the subjectivity Tom Haudricourt injects into his reporting, especially when it's baseless and wrong. If that's the sort of standard that makes me an 'applogist', I'll continue to wad up my underpants, because we all deserve better.
  12. More 'objectivity' from the Brewers beat writer: I find it hard to believe he can't make his point without insulting the initial poster. Haudricourt is a joke. That the Journal-Sentinel allows this sort of conduct out of their writers is laughable. Why can't they hold their Brewers coverage to the higher standard this team deserves? (appended thread title --1992)
  13. GodspeedYouPackEmperor is a play on Godspeed You Black Emperor. For the 99.9% of the site that is unaware of its significance, here you go. The username in and of itself is kind of a play on the Wisconsin sports scene, and it's taken on added prescience with the events of the past few weeks. But I am not, in fact, a psychic.
  14. Here is Jim Powell's take on Weeks: http://community.sportsbubbler.com/blogs/jimpowell/archive/2008/08/03/sunday-musings.aspx
  15. ^ I can't tell if there's a single word in that post that wasn't copy-and-pasted from another source. From what I could read into your opinion, which wasn't much since you didn't actually write anything, you seem to think past success on a smaller scale should automatically translate into similar future success on the highest level. Yet this notion has been refuted above. The MLB draft is no sure thing. The fact that Weeks has developed into a competent player while just scratching the surface of his potential means his selection was very defensible. Ignoring the past success (his OPS was #10 in the league last year for 2B) of a rising player while just focusing on current results (but not too current, because who would want to admit that he's been stellar post ASB) doesn't seem to be the wisest thing. Contrary to what the naysayers keep posting while continuing to ignore the facts, Weeks' full story has yet to be written. Giving up on him could very well be something the Brewers would regret.

  17. A .775 OPS from Weeks (which is still lower than his 2007 performance) would place him in the upper third of 2B across MLB, so I'd say it's above mediocre. As it is, his season long OPS still places him above the aggregrate OPS of 10 other teams' 2B when grouped by position. I think he's worth keeping.
  18. Trains still stop traffic in Waukesha? What is this, 1908? Milwaukee County FTW. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Trains are federally obligated to blare their horns in city areas unless there is a designated exemption. As with all annoyances beyond your control, I know what you're wondering... who can you properly assign your blame and rage to? This happened when I was living in La Crosse a few summers ago, and if I remember correctly, it wasn't exactly a timely fix. It's unfortunate when what can probably be classified as an outdated safety code stands to be a communal nuisance, but it's worth it if it saves a life.
  20. Yeah... Rick Weeks gets this real bad from everybody. Poor guy.
  21. Awesome! I bet you Paul Allen made it to the game just fine! Part of me misses the days when I could walk right up on a game day and buy any amount/location of seats I want, but then I think logically about how much I'm enjoying the team winning and how I can't really afford to go to more than a handful of games this year due to "responsibilities" and it all subsides. I was able to recently buy a group of 14 tickets to the 8/18 game though. So there are still seats available for some games, just not weekend and/or Cubs games. Like they always say: winning = less seats available, and I'll take that trade-off anytime.
