  1. Either it was embellished/made up for the movie, or Beane has a lot of personal issues he deals with if he's always throwing stuff or sitting in vacant lots thinking Haven't seen the movie yet, but that's the impression Michael Lewis gives of Beane in the book.
  2. What's bugging me? That BBT isn't a universally recognized symbol of awfulness...
  3. Also in awesome news that happened this weekend, The Wonder Years is finally available for streaming on Netflix.
  4. I think these first two episodes (granted I only caught the first half of the second one) are of much better quality than most of what they put out the last 2 seasons. Paul Lieberstein did state that the show will not be as boss-centric as it was with Michael Scott, and I consider that a good thing. The show stagnated around Michael Scott as they kept adding to the cast. Hopefully they can reign that in and return to the highlights of the pre-merger group, but I'm not holding my breath. Parks and Rec, on the other hand, still remains brilliant. God I love that show.
  5. Just watched the first episode. Since the beginning of season 2, this show has yet to let me down. The run it's been on is remarkable.
  6. http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lr46dz9tMt1qzs3xio1_500.png Sidenote: this show was just so great back then...
  7. I just recently canceled Hulu+ after 2 months (first was free). I have Roku box to handle the streaming, and was disappointed that several of the shows I wanted to watch were deemed internet-only. There is an almost overwhelming selection of pure crap, so that was a bit of a mental drain for me. And the ads are just aggravating. I can't stress enough how much I hated Hulu+. For Netflix, I'm satisfied enough to stick with the streaming only. Redbox will satisfy my fix for generic new-release crap, and we figure we can jet on down to Family Video for any essential catalog choices. I'm still infatuated with the convenience of Netflix's Instant Streaming options, 2 years in. Video quality is superb on my 10Mb connection. I'm satisfied with the content as is. It's by no means my only choice of entertainment and certainly worth the value for $8/mo. Losing the Starz content is a non-entity for me, as it was a lower quality video feed coupled with crappier choices in movies. I'm hopeful that the void caused by their departure will be filled by a stronger content provider.
  8. And Antonio Alfonseca quietly weeps...
  9. *shudder*: http://images.checkoutmycards.com/zoom/fa81b73d-6961-428e-93fb-da86901353e7.jpg
  10. I love this reply. Way to go, KML, er Mr. H5! Also: http://www.best-horror-movies.com/image-files/28-days-later-empty-street-small.jpg
  11. Here is the most comprehensive one I could find that was written prior to the Kurkjian article, but it's surely not the original. EDIT: found a news article from 10/23/97 via Google News. That's gotta be damn near the original. EDIT2: and just like that, "the chicken" gets a hit.
  12. "G" can be for Gindl, too: .297/.378/.476 Not bad for 4 years out of high school.
  13. Being younger I had always just assumed they were astronomically popular even before his death, given the sales of Nevermind. Nirvana *was* astronomically popular pre-death. That's how an intentionally anti-commercial record such as In Utero debuted at #1. Nirvana pretty much defined the "alternative/grunge" musical movement. Cobain's legacy was forged long before he died, but his death kept himself culturally relevant way longer than he apparently could have beared to have been in life. I think any inclination of a massive increase in popularity post-death would have resulted in much higher sales for their live album (From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah), but that's only sold about 25% of In Utero per Wikipedia.
  14. I agree that Thornburg and even Kh Davis' dominance could be termed surprising. I'm surprised that Kentrail Davis hasn't shown more this year in Brevard, but I still got high hopes for him. And yes while Richardson's performance has been a plus, it's really only 29 games of cumulative positives at the moment.
  15. You're right, I was thinking of the air date. You know, back when MTV did stuff like that.
  16. Nirvana's Unplugged album was released 6 months prior to Cobain's death.
  17. The Idaho Falls play by play guy seems to think the @TimberRattlers play in a place called "West Consin." Wow, Brent Musberger is their play-by-play guy? What a coup!
  18. From said article: The fact that Weeks has more homers both this year and last than Holliday and Upton notwithstanding...
  19. Netflix is raising prices on 1 disc at a time + unlimited streaming from $9.99 to $15.98 starting in September. Thanks...
  20. James Spader is an excellent addition. I guess I will keep the TV on after Parks & Rec this fall.
  21. Del's is awesome. What are the others in La Crosse that you've cribbed from MJL?
  22. For GnT's I also prefer Hendricks garnished with cucumber I concur.
  23. *Down on the lakefront is Discovery World, which is essentially right next to the art museum. I haven't actually been in it since they relocated, but there's a lot of fun and interesting stuff in there, though it's probably more kid oriented. (Can someone verify that?) It's kid-centric but it's probably the most interesting place we take our kids, along with the zoo. Much of the enjoyment I get out of DiscoveryWorld is seeing the wonderment and amazement through my kids' eyes, but between the aquarium and the upper level there is a lot of stuff that I think is pretty cool too. We have a membership there though, so I'm not sure I'd be willing pay the $16.95/adult admission & the $7+ for parking. I'd rather see the art museum for that kind of monetary commitment, but it's a good suggestion in general.
  24. I thought the season finale was probably the best of the season, albeit a season so crappy I only watched half the episodes. I'd be back for Spader though.
  25. You should be able to do that, assuming either you have more than one coaxial input or (more likely) the DISH box is fed into your TV through Component or HDMI. Antennas typically connect via coaxial cable, so you'd just switch inputs from DISH to locals. When we bought our house, I inherited a decent sized roof-antenna that was lodged in the attic. My reception rocks, but I'm only about 3 miles from the antenna farm in Milwaukee. The size of your antenna would be dependent on your proximity to the source: http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx
