  1. Ok, I hadn't realized that was the situation with Jackson. That the Brewers would surrender the 1st if they signed him after being qualified. So if he were to decline the qualifying offer does it still affect the signing team? Or would it be an automatic binding? That said, I'd still actually consider it. I know that it's always a touch-and-go market when trading for pitching and I guess I'd rather give up a pick than a combo of prospects. EDIT: And to RockCo's point above, although I'm a Jackson fan, I've always wondered why he never stuck with one team for very long.
  2. Just kind of thinking out loud and following the OP... You'd rather trade something for Jon Lester and take on 2/25 vs giving someone like Edwin Jackson 3/33 or similar money? Just my opinion but my desire would be to go the signing route. I believe Jackson is a better pitcher than Lester and it's costing me no assets. The money is similar and I get to keep my assets, no matter how 'middle of the road' they may be. I also agree with TurboRickey's post regarding Jimenez. I'd want to steer clear of him.
  3. I read that article. Olney did not say that the Brewers ARE front runners for Hamilton. It said that the Brewers COULD be in the running for Hamilton. Mostly, based on Johnny Narron being on the Brewers. Definitely PL - after I posted in this thread I saw the thread in the Transactions forum and got to reading the article. It read a lot different than I was expecting. He said the Brewers could be frontrunners if another team doesn't overpay for Hamilton's services, which we all know is likely to happen. To me that is just Olney throwing names at a wall to write a story creating intrigue for Hamilton's services. Some great points all around in that thread in the Transactions forum.
  4. Just saw this thread after being mentioned in the Major Leagues forum. Great posts all around, and not much more I can add other than I am firmly entrenched in the 'No Thanks' camp regarding Hamilton. It just doesn't make sense on any level and reeks of a fantasy baseball move. Has no basis in reality for this Brewers team, as it's currently constituted.
  5. Olney reported the Brewers are front runners for Hamilton? Awful. I don't buy that for one second, and don't think it makes much sense on any level.
  6. Wow I didn't realize he left Boras. Thank you for that link.
  7. I've posted this before, I'm a big Edwin Jackson fan. I think he's an underrated pitcher, but I could never figure out why he hasn't been able to stick with one team. He's also a Boras guy, so I guess it would be a longshot for him to sign here.
  8. What struck me about Logan Schaefer is that down the stretch he seemed to always come up with some kind of clutch pinch hit in big spots. Not sure how I can go back and quantify that, but that is my perception. As if he performed better in PH than he did starting. The stats definitely back up your memory, even though they're tiny samples: Schafer's BB-Ref. 2012 splits page as Starter (10 PA): .300/.300/.600/.900 as PH (9 PA): .500/.444/.750/1.194 --Leverage-- High (6 PA): 1.167 OPS Med. (7 PA): .762 Low (12 PA): .705 Wow - thanks for posting this TLB. Great stuff. Agreed that it's a small sample size, but it's really interesting to see the comparisons.
  9. What struck me about Logan Schaefer is that down the stretch he seemed to always come up with some kind of clutch pinch hit in big spots. Not sure how I can go back and quantify that, but that is my perception. As if he performed better in PH than he did starting. As for Gomez...he became one of my favorite players this year. Easily one of my top 3 favorite players on the team. I know he does a lot of frustrating things at the plate, but I can't say enough about his growth this year. I couldn't agree more with the post above 'let Carlos be Carlos'. All that said, unfortunately I have to agree that 2013 is most likely his last year with the Brewers. And that stinks. I would love to see him locked up to an extension but I doubt that happens.
  10. Really frustrating. So so frustrating. I get the fact the stars were going to have to align just right for the Brewers to make the postseason, but that still doesn't take any sting away from today.
  11. Nice inning from both KRod and Henderson. Damn nice work from both of them.
  12. Just to piggyback on everyone else's posts regarding Wily...it was definitely Ramirez that called for the trainers. Such a strange sequence of events. In any case, I don't want ANY chances taken with this kid. I think the sky is the limit for Wily. And I have to 100% agree with Topper's post above. Makes no sense. Quite frankly, not that big of a Yorvit fan in any scenario. I understand the logic behind Melvin adding him, I just don't necessarily think he's a very good player.
  13. Not to be lost in this is Marcum. I don't know if it's fools gold, or if he's feeling better or what...but he has put together back to back quality starts - against quality opponents - to give this team a chance to win and stay in this thing. It's huge and deserves mention. He's much maligned, and in no way would I endorse giving him the 13 million QO (which is what it would be in the neighborhood of) for next year, just that I'm impressed with what he's done over the past 2 CRITICAL starts.
  14. Marcum was unbelievably jobbed. Only fitting he gets Rolen swinging. Ball 3 to Votto couldn't have been any more a strike. I have the CIN feed and they showed it with the Fox tracker and the ball was neatly placed inside the upper right corner. No question about it.
  15. Couldn't have said it better myself. Great post. The character on this team is undeniable, not having folded when they could have multiple times. They battled back - often times in spite of themselves - and almost pulled it off. Personally speaking, it's going to be a dreadful offseason of 'what if' when I think about how many opps our bullpen squandered away. Conversely, moving forward, there is a lot to like about this team. Last though, I plan to enjoy every minute of my time at Miller Park this weekend.
  16. Hell of a pitch for the 3rd strike on Phillips.
  17. This. I will be making my annual Brewer trip this weekend and have tix to all 3 games. I wanted to get out earlier this summer but ran out of weekends to get away. It would be bordering on awesome if any of the series v 'Stros meant something.
  18. Well...sooner or later that was going to happen to a Brewer OF. Awful timing.
  19. Big play by Luc there getting that LaRoche foul for 3rd out.
