  1. I'm not sure about that. However, I do believe if this team manages to win it all this year (at least a NL pennant perhaps) then when CC retires one day we should retire ol' #52 regardless of if he plays elsewhere. He will have meant that much to this organization and its fans.
  2. 2-1 Mets 4-0 Padres 2-1 Cincy 1-3 @Philly 2-1 @Cubs 2-1 @Cincy 2-1 Pittsburgh 1-2 Cubs 16-10 Sounds about right. WC berth.
  3. I know and really he potentially could have picked it up again and still made the play. Just an unbelievably irresponsible call.
  4. It will always be a no no for me. That was amazing and only an idiot would call that a hit. Clearly it was an error and that was stated by everyone at the time it happened. Home team scoreres are terrible and this needs to be looked at in the bigger picture. He ruined this great moment for that man, that team and all the fans. It will still be a no no and just as sweet, but the moment of it was lost because of his arrogant, stubborn and amateurish scoring decision. He had an opportunity to take it back but apparently he being the only one in the world who feels it was a hit was good enough for him. Do the right thing, MLB and make this a no no and let the Brewers and their fans celebrate it together this week at Miller Park.
  5. I don't know. Honestly, and this is hard to say, but the truth is this is the Cubs' season to blow. They are the best team in MLB to date and in some respects it isn't even close. Of course they could blow it, but I wouldn't bank on it. The Cubs should be the odds on favorite to win it all at this point. I'd love them to lose. But whatever. I'm not worrying about them until the Brewers have to face them again.
  6. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=789072 Villanueva has fired back, stating tha he thinks Pujols thinks he's above the game sometimes. Yost mentions he'd be upset if Carlos does this again (reads as subtle sarcasm IMO...) and Cameron tells the Cards to approach him if they have a problem with them untucking shirts. Yost also challenges the Cardinals to beat them if they have a problem with this. A rivalry is born!
  7. Sports are designed around the premise of the bandwagon. "...take me out to the crowd..."
  8. I love how Cardinal after Cardinal would throw their helmet, proiest and wine when they got out and that's OK. But a young guy who has struggled (journey man?) and made some big pitches pumps his fist and suddenly he's trouble? Jerks is what they are. Thing is the Cards have this sense of entitlement. They can't stand the fact there is a new kid in town who can play because for so long it was so easy for them. And they see this isn't a 1-year fluke kinda thing. They potentially could be behind the Brewers for the next 3 or 4 years. And it frustrates them and their fan base. For whatever reason they don't like the Brewers' happy-go-lucky mentality and approach. They have fun and show emotions and apparently that isn't right to the team that always looks miserable and only believes in throwing things like a child to express the human experience.
  9. They definitely don't have the world's best fans. The problem with Florida it seems is that it is full of transplants. So many people, especially old people, move there. They don't have a connection with the team and they don't care about them. they're able to follow their team via many sources and mediums. I've heard Yankee games down there are just full of retired New Yorkers. Bill Simmons wrote an article about going to a game there (Boston of course) and laughed in amusement at the fact it was almost all Bo-Sox fans. I really can't figure out why they can't get 30k to watch that team though. They're an excellent, exciting and refreshing young team that is blowing the lid off the league. I suppose native people just don't care about baseball much and the transplants have their own teams.
  10. I'm not sure I understand how the 2 arguments are related at all. The reason you can't "upgrade" your seat is because they want to protect the value of the seats. This is how they make people spend big money if they want good seats. Exactly how are these similar? As well, I'm not sure there is so much a "right" as there is a certain code of conduct guests must follow or else be asked to leave peacefully or forcefully. I'm not certain a typical person would agree that this apparent right to watch a game is being violated because someone has to get up, etc. It isn't like they're standing in front of you the entire game. What about tall people in front of you? People with hats on? People walking in the aisle that's in your line of view of the action? Where do you draw the line? At what point is it not a live sporting event (where you expect people getting up and moving around, side effects of alcohol consumptions such as rowdiness, some lewd language and greatly raised voices in conversation and other "typical" sporting event fare) but a night at the Opera? I agree with the parent to your post that you can't enforce consideration, etc. I try and be considerate because it is my nature at these things but a lot of people just don't realize they aren't or don't care to be in the first place. But I'm not convinced they're necessarily doing anything that infringes on my overall viewing of the game at large.
  11. Tie breakers are settled by a tie breaker game I thought. MLB flips a coin for each potential tie breaking game to determine who hosts. That game is played and the winner goes on. I could be wrong, but thought this is how they dealt with ties in MLB.
  12. Hi, I was mainly being sarcastic with the first few lines. Anyway, I don't see how starting a wave is any different. And if it can't get going after 5+ tries (I've seen 10+ attempts) doesn't that mean the majority of people don't want it and we're in the same situation? At least when people get up they're going to buy something or use the bathroom. And people getting up in front of me 5+ times to do the wave is more than the average person will get up to get food and beer as by then they're probably so full and bloated they're ready to puke. Plus, since when is Miller Park a democracy? It doesn't make it "right" compared to the other argument simply because more people enjoy doing it. Do the wave between innings. Or better yet, stop embarrassing yourself Milwaukee and never, ever do the wave again. As for shutting off your cell phone: that's actually a rule that theaters have and you can be removed if you're talking on a phone. Also, the 2 environments are totally different with a baseball game being a large scale event and a theater being an intimate thing. Theaters don't have replay, it isn't OK to ask someone next to you what happened, etc. (pared back long quote --1992)
  13. Would it be easier to put signs up when you walk to your seat from the concourse(similar to the watch out for flying bats and balls) that says "please refrain from leaving your seat until inbetween innings". But what about the impulse buy? You can't let these people think it over and convince themselves they don't need the nacho fries in a baseball helmet. Also, you're assuming most people in attendance know what an inning is, much less what it means to be between them. As an aside, I'm not sure how many people travel to densely populated places, are often around large groups of people etc. But you get all types. You also tend to learn that it isn't their problem they're annoying you. You learn that you have to stop being annoyed by little things and ignore them. Maybe some person gets up every 2 innings at bad times or takes forever to sit down in front of you. Look around them. Maybe some guys are drinking, having a good time and swearing a bit. Ignore them and if you have kids with you take that opportunity to teach them why this is low class behavior (or sit in the family section). Or maybe someone is a fan of another team and is acting like they're winning the world series after every called ball. Cheer for your team then. The point is we don't need rules and laws etc because someones ideal of a baseball game is being violated. Just stop worrying about other people and focus on enjoying yourself. Don't let people ruin your good time and if anyone has a problem with you ignore them. I've seen too many people just sit there like wet blankets, angry because someone around them was ruining their good time. The only person who loses is the person feeling like that. As an example, I hate the wave when the Brewers are down or tied or its close and it's the 4th inning, etc. I found that because everyone around me doing it is an idiot, it's more fun to just mock them. Yeah I hate how they get up every 10 seconds trying to get the thing going and I miss pitches, etc. Whatever. It's not going to ruin my good time. If you can't stand being around lots of different kinds of people for a few hours then stay home. There's idiots everywhere. Learn to ignore them and be happy.
  14. That's quite amazing. This team is great and I'm happy with whatever happens this year. They're fun to watch and worth anyones while.
  15. It doesn't make sense for a stadium to give a hard time to the people buying things (food, beer, pink baseball bats) because people sitting in the seats are annoyed that they are getting up and buying things. Well, annoyed they're getting up at annoying times to spend money anyway. I dislike it too when people get up in the middle of an inning (I don't mind the return part so much) but it doesn't make sense to give someone trouble who is holding $30.00 worth of beer and food in their hands because the cheapskate sitting next to them is annoyed they have to get up for a second. It just doesn't make sense to harass the people spending the real money because the other people not spending money are annoyed. If I run a ballpark, I go out of my way to get people to get up at any time to spend gobs of cash on those kinds of profit margins and make the return trip just as nice so they don't feel uncomfortable doing it again. And from a hardcore fan perspective, see it this way: they're spending money and supporting the team by buying things. Now of course I'm the perfect fan when I go. I spend gobs of money on rip off beer (the game is just that much better with every beer...I'm there to party and have a good time. Like going to the bar) but I only get up between innings or some kind of longer stoppage and I stand in the entrance until the next batter is making his approach to the plate. I wish everyone did this but I stopped caring a long time ago. It's not going to change and it doesn't make sense for the ballpark to change it.
  16. Yup. With no outs then don't take a risky stretch to home. Keep your guys on with no outs. But then again with the way these guys hit with RISP....
  17. Hardy to 3rd, Escobar to SS. Weeks at 2b. You can't move him to CF because he doesn't have the arm. They toyed with playing him the OF when he was drafted and figured it out real fast they can't. H's a 2b player. I still like the guy.
  18. He's a pork chop. Pork chops don't defend well. I gave up on pretending this team can play consistent defense awhile ago. Take my advice: The game is a lot more enjoyable when you quit getting mad at them doing the things they're bad at, poorly.
  19. I really don't see a problem with spit it at all. I know Miller Park feels like a mall sometimes, but it's a ballpark. Maybe it's more of a "do that in your seat" kind of thing? I guess I haven't really seen people creating piles of shells outside their seats though. I" mean, it would be considered rude to throw your cups and wrappers in the corridors where as it is perfectly acceptable to leave them in your seating area. As for the guy claiming he works for the Brewers and demanding people sit in their seats and not walk around; get over it. They made those areas for fans to stand in and the stadium is built such that you not only can walk around but are encouraged to. This is a freaking baseball game. Walk around, have a good time, make some noise and get a little rowdy. The ushers are pretty bad nowadays from people I've hear from. I tend to stay out of trouble so I haven't had issues. I also realize it isn't worth my time arguing with them. If they have a problem with me I tend to just walk away and do whatever I was doing somewhere else. At the very least the usher should have brought you cups to spit into. It's their job to assist the fan and something like that would have been proper.
  20. It's really hard to complain when your team loses a 1 run game against one of the best pitchers in MLB after winning 8 in a row. Didn't come up Brewers today. They're going to lose again this year. Maybe even tomorrow! Never plan on a road sweep. Would have been nice but a 3-2 game on the road is going to happen.
  21. He's a dork. I read a mailbag of his and someone formed a well thought out question regarding Cameron and how his OPS is actually very good. Tom, obviously caught with his pants down or something, responding with something like "I just call them as I see them". Like he's some kind of baseball God. Guys, the Journal is a pretty bad paper and it's written for 4th graders. Naturally, Tom H. writes like a fourth grader and analyzes the team like a 4th grader. Don't expect anything useful from him but reported facts. His opinion is trash, like most peoples. He is a pretentious fool who really thinks his position as newsie for the Brewers in the local rag (does anyone really read that paper?) makes him the torch bearer for a generation of Brewers fans. Don't read his trash. If you do, just scan it for the facts. His opinions are laughable in their simplicity, naivety and general lack of understanding a game he covers professionally, in great pretense and chutzpah no less.
  22. 115 pitches is fine. He isn't developing. He finished off the 7th and that was that. That's fine. I can't believe people are actually complaining about something. And this? Complaining a guy like him is throwing 115 pitches? He's averaging about 110 pitches a game which is fine. Get real. They know what they're doing.
  23. I feel like CC gives the Brewers a very good chance to win this game.
  24. You just hope it isn't a nagging thing that affects his performance.
  25. I'm not getting my hopes up but this is only great news. At least he has a chance of playing and maybe starting again this year. There's a chance at least. And worst case is he doesn't play this year but he's 100% healthy for next year. No one thought Reggie White was going to come back so quickly for instance. Things happen in a magical season...
