  1. I'm up to 17 benefits of this trade, (listed in reply #58) and I'm sure there are more that I haven't even thought of yet. One of the biggest, yet probably overlooked benefits could come in the form of many if not all sellouts the rest of the way at MP. That kind of revenue sure will help the team going forward. (edit: happily linkified --1992)
  2. Let me list the benefits... 2 Aces! If the Brewers make the playoffs, Sheets / Sabathia is a hell of a 1-2 punch if not the best A workhorse who eats innings A left handed starter Getting CC now means 2 starts before AS break and about 5 before the deadline The odd man out of the rotation (Bush, McClung) can help shore up the bullpen, provide depth Cubs, Phillies, Cards, Mets, Braves, Dodgers, Marlins, etc. don't get him This should send a scare in the direction of Chicago and St. Louis 3 less players the Brewers have to worry about protecting on the 40-man roster down the line We still have Gamel and Escobar! A huge psychological boost in the clubhouse Lots of (if not all) sellouts the rest of the year at MP can only help the Brewers in upcoming years CC dominates the AL, imagine what he might do to the NL All this excitement should inspire fans to vote Hart into the All Star Game If there was ever a doubt, we know our owner is committed to winning NOW 5 picks in the top 35 or so next year Milwaukee is the talk of MLB !!!!
  3. Cain was actually sent to AAA Nashville for a short period earlier this year and then went back down to A+, so a short stint in Huntsville wouldn't be unprecedented. Very well. Thanks for the insight, that's good to know.
  4. True, but that was known before today. And Brantley is only out for about 10 days. You'd think they'd work around it if a Cain promotion wouldn't be permanent.
  5. Am I right in saying that since they went so far as to promote Cain to Hunstville to fill a spot that a deal is a mere formality? Why tell Cain to pack his bags if you're not yet positive a spot has been opened for him?
  6. Cain being told to report to Huntsville is a pretty dramatic step.
  7. Hilarious! Olney is on ESPN saying the Brewers / Indians deal is at the 10 yard line and they halt everything with breaking news to say that Johnny Damon is going on the DL and ARod's wife is filing for divorce.
  8. Good to hear that the boxscore showing Escobar in RF is incorrect.
  9. Escobar, Gamel, Parejo, Salome, Gillespie, Hopf, Bell, Garciaparra, Maldanado all in the Huntsville lineup. Only LaPorta absent without an injury excuse. Glad to see Escobar, Gamel, Gillespie and Salome all in there! Oddly enough, Escobar is in RF tonight.
  10. Escobar, Gamel, Parejo, Salome, Gillespie, Hopf, Bell, Garciaparra, Maldanado all in the Huntsville lineup.
  11. Relax. Players have been sat down before because negotiations were ongoing and there is the risk that the deal would collapse if an injury were to occur. The only thing that can be said for sure is that talks are at the very least still on the front burner.
  12. I hope the fact that no one else was mentioned by Coshun means no other regulars are missing from the Stars lineup.
  13. Did I hear that right? No LaPorta in the Huntsville lineup?
  14. I'm no more convinced the Brewers are getting Sabathia than I was a week ago. The internet is a dangerous tease. Patience people. Don't celebrate until word comes in from the right sources.
  15. With that HR, JJ just passed Prince in slugging %, .491 to .481. Unreal.
  16. Nice. I'm going to register at SoxTalk.com and post our pledge in their Vote for Dye thread. If anyone has a ESPN username it might help to post something on that Sox board. Anyone else know of any other White Sox forums? whitesox.mlb.com? scout.com?
  17. A deal should be brokered with White Sox fans in which we vote for Dye and they vote for Hart. I like Longoria, but TB has no fans. And I can't bring myself to seek a deal with Yankees fans that gets Giambi in.
  18. Not only did Braun lead ALL NL outfielders in voting, he was second on the NL squad in total votes, only behind Utley. Nice reporting NY Post.
  19. Connecting the dots, I'm thinking maybe the Brewers deadline was midnight last night. At that point our offer decreased significantly and LaPorta was taken off the table. Cleveland simply wasn't ready to pull the trigger yesterday and that's how we got reports today that the deal would be done if LaPorta was available. Not that he ever wasn't, just that he wasn't available as of this morning. Now perhaps Cleveland is inching closer to accepting our original offer and looking for Doug to put it back out there.
  20. It's within that blog post...a reply within his own topic. He posted that update at 9:30 pm. Just scroll down through the replies until you find his comment at 9:30.
  21. Reading this makes me feel like I've been transported to the ESPN message board.
  22. I'm starting to think the strength of our farm system is working against us with regards to Cleveland. It's almost as though because we have so many good prospects, Shapiro wants us to part with more than what teams with weaker systems are offering.
  23. The latest from Tom H. within his blog... If Cleveland wants to take a bunch of A ballers from Philly over LaPorta and and a bunch of A ballers, then tell them to go climb a tree. It might be time to look elsewhere because we're dealing with someone not working with a full deck.
