  1. We're all entitled to our opinions, but I would like to know what has happened or what has been said to make you believe this? Is it just a premonition of yours? I mean, I tend to believe that the guys are playing hard for their own reasons and not because they respect Ned so much, but it's just a thought that I have no evidence to back up.
  2. May the pennant race be related to this, too? I mean, perhaps guys are playing hard because they want to win?
  3. 1. So Linebrink and Cordero aren't options? Have I moved into a bizarro-world where a guy like Linebrink who just blew through the seventh on 15 pitches can't come out for the eighth? And is Cordero dead? 2. Again, is Cordero dead? Why did Linebrink have to come out? Yes, Ankiel was leading off, but Linebrink was sharp. If Shouse can continually be allowed to face righties, why not let Linebrink face a lefty? 3. Are you serious? If Pujols hadn't moved, he would have been hit. I don't know for sure if it was on purpose, but I tend to think it was because of how good a job Suppan was doing with his control. That said, TLR overreacted, as he always does. No doubt about that. But it doesn't excuse throwing at Pujols when we needed to get him out. If you're going to have a urination contest, save it for April.
  4. 1. So you think it was a good idea to put McClung in there to get us out of the eighth? What have you seen him do to make you believe that? 2. Why did Turnbow become a good idea only when McClung got run? Has anyone in the dugout researched how poor he is this year with men on base? 3. Suppan buzzed Pujols. I wouldn't deny that, no matter what I were trying to argue. I agree that TLR and Thompson should have been run in the second inning, though.
  5. Oh, I don't disagree. As I said before, this would have been a bad idea too. I see your point, and I freely admit it would have been probably a worse idea. But that doesn't make what he did a good idea, and we seem to agree on that. To me, it just shows that the man's a little bit out of touch with what kind of impact his decisions can have on games. It seems he just assumed that we'd get out of the inning unscathed. And while the odds were in our favor, the fact he assumed this makes me wonder if he's watched this team at all this season.
  6. So the manager is beyond reproach because...he's the manager? He has a legitimate ROY favorite, the NL MVP favorite, an emerging threat at second base, an All-Star shortstop, a very good (and tall) young RF/CF, two young stud starting pitchers, one of the better fifth starters you'll find on any team that doesn't have a >$100M payroll, and a great closer. It's not perfect, but with this franchise's limited pursestrings, you're not going to get many teams that are as built to win as this one. What do we get for it? A team in a bad division that's barely over .500 and is constantly shooting itself in the foot. Pitching coach talks to the pitcher until the umpire kicks him off the field, and the pitcher responds with four straight horrible pitches to a .176 hitter. Manager gets himself run from a one-run game because he's in a urination contest with the other dugout. Hitters make mediocre pitchers look like Cy Young favorites, while making Cy Young favorites look like Cy Young favorites. It's not all Ned's fault, and I've about had it with people on the other side broad-brushing me and others like that. But the buck stops with him, and no coach is doing an impeccable job on this team.
  7. But it's a good idea to get the manager ejected, make the other team mad, and give them a free baserunner in the eighth inning of a one-run game? Sure, it would have been a bad idea in the third, but at least you're giving your team more than six outs to make up for a bad decision if you do it in the third inning.
  8. I know I'm late jumping into this, but I have a couple thoughts: 1. Does Ned realize he's managing in the National League? If he wants to retaliate for a beaning, why not throw at the pitcher? After all, letting the pitcher get on base in a random situation is probably about as dumb as giving Pujols a free base in a situation like that one when you have - if you believe the stats - about a 60% chance of getting him out. 2. We walked Pujols intentionally in the third inning. Why not do the deed there? Sacrificing Villanueva wouldn't have been any dumber than what we did. 3. How sad is it that I would love to see a four-game suspension for Yost get handed down today? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/indifferent.gif
  9. I'm not one to ignore bad officiating that goes my teams' way, so I ask this seriously: When was the last time a really important call went (wrongly) our way?
  10. DJ-- If Ned hasn't already done enough to get fired, a few more losses in largely meaningless games this week won't do it. Oh, and blame Sveum/Maddux for putting Spurling and King in, but they aren't the ones who made the decision to warm them up. That would have been our friend Ned before he got run.
  11. Because all the cool kids are doing it.
  12. Yeah, that lineup sucked. It was inexcusably bad. But since "we won", I'm sure he'll play the same game again today. In fact, let's look at his choices. Rickie Weeks is 0-for-6 lifetime against Smoltz. Sorry, kid. Craig Counsell's OPS is over 1.000. We won't mention that it's 18 ABs, and none of them have come this year. You, Mr. Weeks, can take a place on the bench next to fellow 0-for-6er Damian Miller. Bill Hall is 3-for-8 with a home run against Smoltz. Guess who's playing center field today. (Obviously, I hope I'm wrong. I hope Ned studies this a bit more closely and puts the best eight position players he can find into the lineup.)
  13. So if we're playing the Mets at Shea in an elimination game, you'd be okay with Cordero sitting in the bullpen while Spurling, Stetter, and Wise tried to slog through the late/extra innings of a tie game? Really?
  14. Of course, you forgot that The Beard reached base with one out. That means Ned was assuming that neither Weeks nor Dillon would do anything to make Bush run. As I said, if the top of our order is so terrible, maybe we should try different people.
  15. I see Ned's not the only one who doesn't think the top of our order can hit for a crap. Of course, Ned controls the top of the order, so if he doesn't think they can hit for a crap, he should probably put the order together differently.
  16. If your only defense of Yost is to tell people to stop second-guessing him, then you're out of actual defenses for the idiot.
  17. I think our signals are crossed. We're talking about the decision to use Wise instead of Cordero in the 10th, when the meat of Houston's order was due up. I mean, it might have worked to save the closer that one time in Anaheim, but that doesn't make it right to use the same game plan at this point in the season. If we're watching Yost manage every game like it's our last, then I'm not liking our chances in elimination games in the playoffs.
  18. It wasn't even the second-dumbest thing Ned did last night. And that's saying something for his other moves.
  19. Because Cordero can't pitch in a road game unless he has a chance for a save. Duh. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/indifferent.gif
  20. Aquino and Spurling never hit a guy in the face with a pitch. Duh.
  21. Am I the only one who thinks it's not entirely bad that we "only" got two in the first? After all, our recent history with 3+ run leads isn't exactly overwhelming.
  22. On the bright side, it should be a long time before we hear anything about Cordero being overworked.
  23. Amen. Then again, if Jesus Christ showed up at the game to sing TMOTTB and wore a Brewer hat, they'd boo Him, too. It's just what Cub fans do.
  24. Strange that they would be confused. Seems like he would be on the same mental wavelength as them. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
