  1. yeah I could easily see Reed going "0 for however many at-bats" over the course of a month or two
  2. I don't see it as a desperation move by the Brewers. Marco Estrada is entirely unproven. Mitre pitched very well in a tough division last year. Per Brewerfan.net rules, I don't want to repeat myself over & over again but, again, pitching depth in a playoff contending team is of the utmost importance.
  3. Mitre had by far his best season of his career last year. I do think Dave Bush is a better starting pitcher but Mitre is better and more consistent out of the bullpen
  4. yes sir, as I already posted, I think most here would be thrilled if Gomez posted a .809 OPS this season Cameron was also an excellent fielder. Gomez is, as well. Gomez if used correctly and if he can get his on-base percentage up could steal 50 bases this season, too... in case I wasn't clear enough, I think despite the fact that he was paid $6 million, Cameron was very good for the Brewers and a big part of that playoff team. I remain very optimistic about Gomez and think a .750 OPS and Gold Glove level defense are legit possibilities from him
  5. Me? I'm obsessed with OPS... although I do recognize that small samples can be taken somewhat with a grain of salt, I do find postseason stats somewhat telling, especially in the case of Cameron over 6 different playoff appearances
  6. $6 million dollars. That is a useful stat. $6 million dollars for a .809 OPS and great leadership? It could be argued that the money could have been better spent but we did make the playoffs and Cameron was a big part of that team. I think most here would be thrilled if Gomez posted an .809 OPS this season The most telling stat in '08 for Cameron was his .507 postseason OPS (extremely small sample, though I'll note that his career postseason OPS is .581, with a career .174 batting average in 92 postseason at-bats)
  7. For Scranton? Dickerson isn't even good enough to make the Yankees MLB roster, and yet many here wanted Dickerson to start for the Brewers in a playoff run, or be a platoon starter... and the Yankees aren't even the Yankees this year, its conceivable they finish 3rd in their division
  8. Its always easier to find backup outfielders than it is to find pitching depth. We went from having zero pitching depth with credible MLB experience to now having a little depth with Mitre, plus he's someone with alot of MLB bullpen experience... As nice as a backup as Dickerson might be, I still think the Brewers got the best of this trade. Its a long season, having pitching depth is extremely important
  9. Very interesting. I'm gonna guess they trade Parra for Morgan if it happens
  10. Aquiring more pitching will always make Braun happy
  11. Recent Mitre articles ... sounds like he's had a rough spring, though I don't put a lot of weight on spring training appearances. And the Yankees are in no position to give up pitching http://www.nydailynews.co...yorks_roster_despit.html http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ycn-8128124
  12. Ouch, we gave up Dickerson for him If this means Jeremy Reed makes our roster I'm gonna need a good psychiatrist
  13. I'm gonna just come right out and say it: Gammons probably just wrote this up real quick without even consulting with "some scouts". Since the Brewers aren't an East Coast team, they could go 102-60 and Gammons still wouldn't be impressed with them
  14. And Mitre can be an effective relief pitcher once Greinke comes back
  15. Cool... Mitre isn't an incredible pitcher but he's better than Marco Estrada, has experience starting or coming out of the bullpen, posted a 1.093 WHIP in over 50 innings for the Yankees last year... this is a good move I think
  16. Kotsay has made the team. Roenicke doesn't even mention him as a "Possibility" in this article (linked below). Kotsay is on the team. If Hart has to go on the DL it'll be 2 of Boggs, Reed, or Dickerson, otherwise it'll be just one of them... the last spot will get filled by either Cruz, Almonte or Maysonnet http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118594274.html
  17. That is great & wonderful. Seriously. But then keep him as a pinch-hitter with an occasional start. Don't trot him out there on Opening Day over Dickerson if Hart is not available
  18. True, at least some of the time. Edmonds' .350 OBP & .843 OPS in over 200 at-bats was indeed pretty impressive for a 40 year old
  19. Gomez is only 25 years old and has a ton of potential. Am I correct that we have him through 2013? (Free agent eligible in 2014)... Even beyond "potential", if used correctly Gomez can be a great asset. Sit him against the tougher right handers, let him steal alot, get him to bunt on base more etc
  20. I like the potential of Gamel at 1B and I like the idea of not starting his service clock for the most part until 2012
  21. Signing over-the-hill players seems to be Doug Melvin's biggest weakness. Maybe these are guys that he lusts after when in their prime and then he just inconveniently overlooks that they aren't what they used to be. Every year it is somebody and this year it appears to be Mark Kotsay. Melvin did seriously upgrade the pitching and he signed Braun, Gallardo, Hart & Weeks longterm. He's done alot of things right, but whoa Lord does he seem to love the gritty vets with little left in the tank
  22. I'll be really disappointed if Reed makes the team over Boggs. Reed seems like nothing more than a AAAA guy who has been pretty brutal batting in MLB... I don't get the Kotsay thing either. They should have just kept Joe Inglett (though I know that has been gone over many times here)
  23. 50 stolen bases and Gold Glove defense Batting average? On-Base Percentage? Very hard to predict... the optimist in me says .269/.319
  24. Actually, I amend me previous comment about Cruz' bat. Didn't realize he hit .281 with a .723 OPS in almost 500 at bats last year in AAA ball. Considering what a good fielder he is, I think he definitely deserves a spot on the MLB roster
  25. from the small amount I've seen of Cruz in the outfield, he looks like a natural out there. The question remains his Bat. Defensively I have no doubt he could better than Braun & Hart. Offensively he could be worse than Escobar & Gomez were last season. Alot worse
