  1. so endaround, you make that sound as though the Brewers are mainly concerned with his trade value... I interpret the rosters coming out of spring training as that Salome beat out Lucroy for the AAA job
  2. Where is big Seth the red-head when you need someone to come in and retaliate?! Todd Coffey will have suffice
  3. Regardless of what most "analysts" are saying, it is evident that Salome's stock is still high with the Brewers, otherwise why would he have started the season in AAA? (especially when Lucroy was clearly ready for AAA ball himself)
  4. Looking forward to watching this game... glad to see Gomez back in the starting lineup
  5. Lucroy doesn't seem like a guy who will ever hit 20 HR's a season in MLB like Salome could, but he's a doubles machine... today playing for Nashville he's 1 for 3 with a double and RBI so far (and he has one throwing error)
  6. Keeping in mind that this is all an extremely small sample: Bush has a 3.86 ERA and a 1.114 WHIP (both stats much better than his career norms), Gallardo pitched well in 2 games and had one bad game (in the season opener he pitched 7 innings only walked 2 and gave up 3 earned runs, in the start a few days ago he pitched 6 innings struck out 5 and gave up only 2 earned runs)... Wolf struck out 8 in 6 and 2/3's innings in his first game, he has a 4.91 ERA and 7.4 SO/9. Not great or even as good as expected but hardly "awful" That is pretty much 3/4 of our starting rotation so far (considering that Suppan has only started one game). So, no, our starting rotation has not been awful this year...
  7. Davis has been one of the most durable pitchers in the game over several seasons. One of his greatest values is in giving you lots of innings in June-July-August and helping to keep the bullpen rested. He's probably a 4.50-4.75 ERA guy this year who will give you 30 starts... essentially he's not "in a groove" yet, not hitting his locations, that'll come And if you DFA Davis, who becomes the new #4 pitcher? Suppan?
  8. There's been a surprising amount of that from Prince lately. Usually he's much better at working the count
  9. I think a 20 run lead would be safe. 15 runs? Depends on who is pitching... with a 5 run lead now, we've got ourselves a close ballgame
  10. Either Escobar is sitting cuz he's hurt, or we are going with Counsell because Craig is a "gamer & a fighter & a hard worker" (Oh wait, wrong incompetent Brewers manager reference, never mind) Maybe Ken feels like Craig deserves a "do over" after yesterday's debacle... maybe Alcides slept with Ken's daughter
  11. They've been throwing Narveson out there an awful lot. A talented arm like that with starting potential shouldn't be getting used up in multiple short inning or glorified LOOGY appearances. And now Parra is getting used in short 2 out appearances, too Do we even have a long relief guy right now? I suppose Parra and Narveson are theoretically still stretched out enough to go multiple innings, but right now the Brewers bullpen looks completely mismanaged
  12. It seems he is just flying by the seat of his pants and trying to fill holes. I often wonder how much of this is due to Mark A meddling in things. The Suppan signing certainly seemed like a Mark A thing. A "go out and get us a free agent pitcher". The Brewers seem to be run right now like a money manager would run them: maximize the potential to break even financially (at least) by keeping the fans excited. Thus the relectance to sell high on Hardy. Maximizing the potential to break even, working so hard just to achieve a winning record (which also focuses on fan reaction and attendance) is much much different than trying to build a playoff team There seems to be an aversion to trading away players for prospects because the fans will say "same old Brewers" and that will affect attendance. This type of short-term thinking really leads to mediocrity and a .500 record The Carlos Lee trade to Texas was awful imho. We didn't need Cordero or Mench. We needed pitching prospects. That team wasn't going to the playoffs in '06 or '07. Was that trade focused on increasing attendance as fans got excited about the Brewers achieving a winning record? I think it was, and it didn't help the Brewers in the long run, at all
  13. Prince is much more comparable to Mark Teixeira Teixeira's career stats are a .288 BA, a .377 OBP, and a .918 OPS I would say Prince is a better HR hitter than Teixeira, too: Teixeira had 43 HR's in '05, otherwise he's never hit 40 HR's in a season
  14. I respectfully disagree. I don't think Prince is close to Pujols in any stretch of the imagination. Pujols is one of the greatest players of all-time, a consistently great fielder and not nearly as streaky. Prince is a perennial all-star and a very good player but he is nowhere close to the infielder or hitter that Pujols is and is much more streaky Pujols' career stats are a .334 BA, a .427 OBP, and a 1.056 OPS Prince's career stats are a .284 BA, a .381 OBP, and a .928 OPS
  15. I don't get the negative comments about Wolf. He hasn't been lights out but he's been plenty good enough. He wouldn't have given up any runs in that 3 run 2nd if Counsell hadn't misplayed the ball
  16. I don't know if Macha has indeed "lost the team", but if this type of uninspired play continues, we can look to this game as the "beginning of the end". Silver lining moment: if that is the case, this might be my favorite Brewers game of the year. The faster we get rid of Ken Macha, the better as far as I'm concerned
  17. Yes, it really does. Meanwhile: There are going to be games the Crew loses 8-0. It happens. But the sloppy play today is really disturbing
  18. I think we might need to accept that Melvin is/was great at rebuilding a team from the worst team in baseball to a wildcard team, but perhaps we really need a different GM to take us to the next level. Selling low on Hardy and Hall really hamstrung this team a little. The same could be said of Hart and Parra. Are we going to wait till the trade value of those 2 gets to Bill Hall '09 level before we deal them? I know hindsight is 20/20 but with a small market team, shrewd trades of players on the upswing with a few years left on contracts can really help keep the talent stock high
  19. cnycerveceros , they had everything in place in '08 to make a real run in the playoffs if Sheets had been healthy. Sabathia, Sheets and Gallardo would've been a very strong staff in a playoff series. (Of course if Sheets had been healthy they might not have traded for Sabathia, but I digress) Keep the faith, it is possible. I think we need a better GM and Manager, but it is possible
  20. I think the Brewers feel they need Gomez' defense and have to let him learn on the job in MLB.
  21. 804Sox's reply makes sense and speaks to why the Brewers should consider trading Fielder at the deadline this year in order to maximize trade value. 1.5 years of Prince has much more value than a half season of Prince. And yes, there are a limited amount of teams that can sign Prince but thats all the more reason why the Red Sox will need to aquire him: to keep him out of pinstripes. Fielder as a DH in that already dangerous Yankee lineup pretty much decimates the Red Sox's chances for a division title The Brewers should start the trade talks and let teams like the Red Sox and Yankees try to out-bid each other
  22. Prince was definitely looking like a DH tonight. We sure we want to pay $20 million a year for him?
