  1. Apparently it might be for Doug Melvin. Macha still has alot of games left this season to prove or disprove his compentency, but I'm beginning to have serious doubts I mean seriously, would you want Macha making late inning decisions in a playoff game?
  2. Unlike the NL East teams that we might be competing for a wildcard berth with, we only get to play the Nats 6-7 times a year ... I'm looking for a series sweep or at least a series win
  3. Katin's career OPS in the Minors is just .824 , the biggest problem has been his OBP, (just .305 last year in AAA) ... in the small sample of this year, yes he has 4 HR's and a OPS of 1.056 , but his BA is just .231 , which indicates that he is finally learning how to take his walks and find a way on base. I'd like to see him continue to work on that for at least half a season before he faces MLB pitching
  4. Uecker got robbed when MLB Network had it's top 9 baseball announcers of all-time show as part of "Prime 9". Vin Scully as #1, sure I can see that, but Uecker didn't even make the list!
  5. Pleasantly surprised? 4 runs in 5 innings for a 7.20 ERA is en route to getting DFA'ed. I suppose, considering we won the game, getting a win and a step closer to Suppan leaving the franchise is a pleasant surprise
  6. We almost got Ken Macha'ed there as Hoffman needed 5 outs for the save. When Gomez batted in the 9th he should have been put in the game to play CF with Edmonds moving over to Right. If an amateur like myself knows that, why doesn't Macha?
  7. Essentially Gerut needs a start. Macha would rather go with Edmonds over Gomez vs a "tough right hander". So far thats working out pretty well
  8. Hell hath frozen over. (Now searching the skies for flying pigs) Suppan small sample ERA now at 6.00
  9. ha! good one Surprised Zambrano kept giving Casey fastballs
  10. All we need now is to put up another 9 or 10 runs and we've got ourselves a relatively safe lead
  11. The wind is blowing out, so maybe the Crew can put up 8 to 10 runs and pull out a close W
  12. Small sample but Suppan with an ERA of 1.00 (per inning)
  13. Why, indeed, yes, I would...Macha with the "Yost-esque" lineup decision of sitting the young player (in this case Gomez) the day after he has a good solid game. Cool off that bat, Ken! (I understand that Gerut does need a start)
  14. I think if they cannot re-sign Prince and if the Brewers don't look like legit contenders in '10 or '11, the Crew must first fire Melvin and bring in another GM before making the Prince trade. Melvin has an established history now of selling low on players (Hall and Hardy) misjudging important talent evaluations (Hart vs Nelson Cruz, to a lesser degree Jorge De La Rosa) and has been well below average in aquiring pitching via trades... I want someone else pulling the trigger on a Prince trade because what we get back in that trade could well shape the Brewers entire chance in 2012 and beyond With Braun and Gallardo locked in, Lawrie on the way, Gomez and Escobar and McGehee here with more experiemce under their belts, pitching help coming via the minors, 2012 and 2013 could be very strong years with the added talent a Prince trade could bring. But it has to be the right talent. It has to be much more significant than the Sexson trade brought (as an example). Otherwise just bite the bullet and pay Prince and try to roll with it that way
  15. Too early to panic but some of these moves aren't making sense. So now we don't have a situational lefty? Narveson is our situational lefty? We value Villanueva keeping an option more than Stetter? I don't get it
  16. Why fire Melvin? His hire of Ken Macha is beginning to look like a reasonable excuse.
  17. my thoughts on the pitching coach: my wife thinks he has ugly hair. As for his work, ask me again in July
  18. I'm very happy to see early indications that Casey is not a "one year wonder" but will refrain from getting too excited in this small sample period after getting snake-bit by the likes of Bill Hall and others. I remain optimistic about Mr McGehee. I agree with homer that Casey's swing looks slump-proof, I'm more concerned about his durability
  19. I think Narveson is the 3rd best starting pitcher on the Brewers and he's closing fast on Wolf
  20. The Orioles have done a pretty good job of rebuilding their team so far and aquiring Prince could put them over the top. Plus they have a strong farm system right now and may be a suitable trade partner Having said that I'm solidly in the "Brewers need to sign Prince" camp
  21. Gomez sitting is a combination of 3 things, in my opinion: Macha wants Edmonds in vs a pitcher he has had success against before, and Hart is swinging a hotter bat than Gomez right now. Also, Gomez is recovering from fouling pitches off his lower leg, and while the club isn't talking about it, he probably needs a little recovery time. What will be telling in regards to Gomez' injury is whether he is used as a late inning pinch runner or defensive replacement. The Brewers probably want to give Gomez another day off today, and bring him back on Wednesday
  22. He's 42 years old, at some point he will no longer have it anymore. My hope is that that point will be after this season, or after his final season as a Brewer. At this time its too early to tell, but small sample and all it ain't lookin' great...
  23. I know Kendall wasn't good at throwing out base-runners last year. But is there a stat for catching balls in the dirt? Asking seriously, not trying to be a wise-guy. Like is there a "percetage of pitches caught" stat? (which goes beyond simply just passed balls and errors)... Its a very small sample but I see alot of balls getting away from Zaun that do not get registered as "passed balls" or errors
