  1. The massive difference in price tag leaves me not surprised at all
  2. That is from MLBTradeRumorshttp://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/06/olney-on-nationals-mariners-brewers-as.html Edit: This is a follow up to the post earlier on the subject
  3. The only time they will pass on someone they feel is better is if the price tag is extremely high. I don't sit here and take Jungmann unless I truely believe he is better than Cron, Anderson, Guierrieri and so on. There job is to find the next great player not to pass on them. They may not want that "better player" just because they are not impressed with him and don't think he will be as good as others think.
  4. No, did it last year, BPA strategy, just the way the board is working for them
  5. When there is a position player at the top of there board I'm guessing, I think this is just the way the chips are falling for them. Hopefully soon though, our system could use some.
  6. For a guy who will drop and demand in my eyes is Kevin Cron. From what I have read he is a near carbon copy of his older brother CJ at the same age but is expected to ask high Edit: Well one, wrong about dropping, two spoke to soon lol
  7. I'd give him about 0% chance of debuting in Helena. They never start HS pitchers in Helena. They like to take them slow (Odorizzi played full year at each.) Talented but they will not rush.
  8. Lopez was Kevin Goldsteins favorite signable HS RHP available
  9. Jorge Lopez, seems to have great upside
  10. Vogelbach to Cubs...gally gee they are loading up on nice high school bats
  11. Joshua Tobias is a guy i'd really like, I think he has a ton of upside and could really push Gennett
  12. July at earliest as Mass noted. Right now I don't see enough guys as it is who have earned a promotion. Komatsu I think they will keep in AA all season, Schafer could if he gets hot by July but AAA has plenty of OF's right now. Khris Davis and Hunter Morris all are deserving but Morris is blocked by Halton and Davis I think they will wait until someone moves up to AAA. I hope Thorny and Ross can get bumped up sooner than later but just don't see it happening until July. Nichols is not what you would call an aggressive director.
  13. Could be just me but isn't a little early to write off a guy who just turned 22 the other day? While his season has been tough it has not been so bad that there is no chance he could ever make it. Nelson pitched pretty well (as he shough have) in Helena outside of his first outing or two. I think it is far to early to say he is a completely wasted pick. He needs consistancy. He has had very good games, he has had other games were he has been very good until he gives up that big inning, then others were he is just bad. I am not willing to sit here and say he is a failure, a wasted pick, no talent hack or any of that other non-sense because he has had a rough 2 months. In the NFL it takes 3 full years to really grade a rookie, in baseball it is even longer. Try to give a kid a full-season before you throw him out the door.
  14. I wouldn't overly read into his stats, I think we'll get much better over the next 2 years. Have to remember he is not even a year into living with a life alterning disease. He had lost a ton of weight and had to put it back on, he lost his velocity, suffered arm fatigue, amonst other issues that he has had to battle back from. As he continues to regrain strength and learns how to properly control and live with his diabetes I think he can get back to were he was. This is why I was in 100% agreement that he went to college. It is a tough adjustment and takes some time.
  15. Christian Lopes is a name to keep an eye on today. Coming into the season many scouts were as high on him as Lindor. He will be able to stick at SS and is good with the bat. Wonder if there is any chance to sign Norris or purke now. Price tags are going to be really high.
  16. Ill take Colby's analysis on Bradley over the extremely negitive Xellence one. ERA is not the only thing that matters. Woke up this morning really liking our 1st round.
  17. Oh Boy Derek Fisher (HS OF) is still available! He is one of the guys I am most excited about in this draft, hope he is in the mix! Still ton of talent left however Bichette Jr. went #51 and Grayson Garvin went #59. SS T. Story, OF L. Greene both came off the board.
  18. That is a myth, they are about equal. The major difference is that college pitchers are a little more maxed out and polished where as high school pitchers have higher ceilings but are harder to read. Even if you look at this draft class many of these top college pitcheres were not elite prospects but grew into it. That is why you will see more lower drafted high school pitchers (like a Braddock or Scarpetta) really shot up the prospects board. You never know exactly how much more they will mature and improve. Some would argue that 18-21 is where a pitcher makes the most gains. So a college pitcher had already hit the "pitching growth spurt" where a high school guy hasn't. I don't think either are good fits for Jungmann. It many just be me but I think Heckathorn may be the closest if you got to see him. Has a good power arm and pretty good secondary stuff. He will throw strikes and attack hitters. While he may not completely dominate a game with k's he will not allow many to score and will be very effective. As for Bradley, I think if he adds a fourth pitch he could be more of a lefty Yo. As of right now he has good command of all three pitches and can throw them in any count. He mixes it well and he has a similar fastball that sits 91-94. That is a stretch but Yo is the first person who really pops in my head
  19. To an extent yes. If you look at a stat like ERA, that is not 100% on the pitcher but how good is fielders are, how lucky or unlucky they are (BABIP and LOB% above or below norm). The competition. Jungmann played against good competition so can't knock him there but Arnett pitched great, had and awesome ERA but was is the Big 10. It is a good start point but can't be the means all to rating a pitcher. If it was there is zero chance that Bauer would have not been consenses #1 pick. Jungmann would have been right on his heals. Cole's stats don't absolutely knock you over for worship but he has the stuff that COULD produce elite stat lines. There are way to many factors involved. Do do stats such as ERA tell you mechanics? No. Do they tell you velocity? No. Do they tell you secondary pitches. No. Do they tell you movement? No. They are just a portition of the overall scouting process. So yes, say "hey that Taylor Jungmann was very effective, really nice stat line." Then ask yourself how many more hits and runs are saved because he has one of the best defensive SS's in all of college baseball that other pitchers may not have. Not every pitcher is blessed with the caliber defenders they Texas has (if you ever watch them, they are usually very sound defensively). I'm just using that as an example and not to take away from what Jungmann accomplished but to demostrate why stats are not the end be all. Jungmann's college stats will not make him a great prospect but his fastball command and how how much he can improve is slider, change-up, and curveball which all need work. Not to forget his mechanics may need to be twecked a bit. Those are what will make or break him. College success and stats can only carry you so far.
  20. If dominating college was the main critera for top prospects, the draft would be a whole lot different. So point out the stats all you want but at the end of the day they don't matter. Many guys have "dominated collge ball" and slipped in drafts. All we have to do is look at Cole being the number selection. Bauer was 100x the college pitcher but it all come down to stuff and projectability. Look at a Matt Miller who played in the awful conference known as the big 10, couldn't throw a strike and ERA sat nicely in the 5.00's but he went in the 5th round. Then their are college pitchers who finish with 1.00 ERA's, low walks, good amount of strikeouts but fall to the 20-35 rd range. Once again I think Jungmann will be a good pitcher but basing it off his stats is dumb. I'm starting to think the MLB intentionally grading so many not Type A FA, Type A FA's just to stretch out this new 3 day prime time draft. Unreal that the brewers 2nd round pick is not until #70. Through the first 40 I'd say Christian Lopes, Phillip Evans, Trevor Story, Tyler Greene are some of top HS SS's left.
  21. Bradley is FAR from safe, he has shown flashes of greatness and other time medicracy. I personally feel he has a ton of upside and ceiling. Most thought he was a top 10 or lower lock. That is not because he was safe. He will be a big hit or a big miss in my eyes.
  22. The get young comment was aimed at the fact we are a very old systems, I believe only 5-6 players under the age of 21. Not many system blossem with the Brewers recent college heavy mentality. It usually takes a nice blend off both.
  23. Thanks Toby, for the reports. I think Jungmann is a very good pitcher and I'll come around once he gets going, but as I have said for the last month or two, I wanted the Brewers to get away from the Tall 6'6 college power arm righty. That is my biggest issue I have with Jungmann is that he is the exact same type off pitcher we have been targeting and it hasn't really worked out so far. ("Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results" is a quote that kinda comes to mind). That is the main reason I want to stay away from guys liek Jungmann and Meyer. I felt they needed to go with a lefty (Bradley, Anderson Norris), or a short guy (Gray), or talented hs arm (Bradley, Norris, Guierrieri, Fernandez), something new. With this draft class there were a lot of talented guys that filled those that were all great picks were the Brewers were. I think I am pretty much over that disappointment that we did go with the same type of guy but Jungmann is a darn good pitcher so hopefully it works out. I don't care how much X ellence complains about Bradley cause I have liked the guy for awhile. The way he pitched at Cap Cod last summer very well could be what he just got. I always tell myself to think before react but after Baez went to Cubs I was just in a bad mood and did the opposite and react then think (not a good rational approach) When you step back and look, this first round was pretty good. Jungmann/Bradley R/L combo could be pretty good and I'm excited to see how this works out! GO Brewers and lets get younger tomorrow!!!
