  1. I believe your right and amazing catch heresrobin! Milb has updated his profile page and added the stats of Sanchez last year. All info is the same. Maybe there was a Visa problem which is common for Latin players changing last names.
  2. Colby, like you mentioned about no one seeing Covey last year, how do you feel about Dillion Howard? I have thrown his name out a few times but no one has really gave much feed back towards him. I think Howard could be a bit of a sleeper that people have been very quit on. Hear alot about all the college arms then the preps like Bundy, Norris, Bradley, Guierrieri but seems like everyone forgets about Howard and even Fernandez (I think you are the only person I have seen through his nmae out there) who in a normal draft would garner much more talk.
  3. By any chance Toby do know anyone else the Brewers have brought in for workouts?
  4. While on the dicussion of Pitcher of the year I though I share some results. Last night I went through who I thought were out top 15 pitching prospects (not including Rogers because of injury and he would have taken last in nearly every catogory) to rate them on the season. If they had the best number they received 15 points and if they had the worse the received 1. The critera was ERA, FIP, BAA, WHIP, K/9, BB/9, and K:BB (LOB% and BABIP I didn't use because they are unstainable, ex. Thornburg having a 90.1% LOB% is cool but it would most likely be above his career average and eventually come down...same as BABIP) These are the stats that I feel are most important to judging a pitcher, my favorite is FIP (Fielder Independent Pitching). The median score for the 15 was 56 points and only six of the pitchers were above: Austin Ross (98) Tyler Thornburg (94) Nicholas Bucci (87) Kyle Heckathorn (73) Cody Scarpetta (68) Brooks Hall(57) (Still early though) Jimmy Nelson sadly was the bottom feeder with only 24 points :/ So Ross and Thorny are neck and neck, Bucci on their heels and Heckathorn and Scarpetta are in a good position if they get hot. If anyone is interest in the Excel Spreadsheet with all the stuff on it (all is sortable and you can make changes as the season goes on to keep track) send me a message with your email and I can sent it to you. I have also been working on there career averages (all years prior to 2011) to track what to expect, how they project, and how much better they are doing and why (Peralta has a sad 58 LOB% but a FIP OF 3.96, the 6th best, .340 BABIP also is above career average) I plan on adding relievers to the list as well when I have the time (School and coaching just ended and looking for summer work so have plenty of time ha)
  5. Thornburg and Komatsu for me. Looking right now, Komatsu could be on his second straight offensive player of the year season. Thornburg is really only competing against Ross and Bucci as of right now, hopefully some others get hot and are able to join in the mix (Scarpeta, Heckathorn, Peralta)
  6. My main poin to that is though is that is the guy you feel is the best play available and think he will be an all-star you cant say, oh well he is going to want to but money so I am going to pick this "safer, cheaper" guy who is not as good but affordable. Doing that is what helps land teams in the red area for there system. Sure some will hit, some will miss but you never know who those ones will be so you must go off what all your scouts, cross checkers, and scouting director say they feel is the highest ceiling, best player available. If if his tag is high, you still need to pick them UNLESS there is someone equal to or close to that same ceiling or potential. AKA Bradley vs Guierrieri, both are fairly close in ceiling however one isnt a star QB will will cost an arm and a leg. In that case you can go cheaper. In the end it is all how the scouts rate the players and how equal the others are to them but I firmly believe if a Bubba Starling somehow drop to the Brewers at #12 because of price tag, I won't even have to think twice (to me Starling is the top prospect in the draft but that is 100% IMO) I am paying up and getting the BPA. Bradley is a little more tough to say if he is worth the much heftier price tag since there are guys around him who are pretty close in talent and cheaper, but I still think Bradley would be an outstanding pick.
  7. Would love a Bradley/Norris combo....Brewers have nothing really for lefties in the system and lack strike out pitchers, Norris gives you a south paw and both can rake up some k's. I really want a nice pitcher like Odorizzi who doesn't walk many and can rack up some k's. Sick of having a whole system of contact/ground ball pitchers who we may go in shock if they get 6-7 k's in an outing. Thornburg, Peralta (at times), Rogers (if he is'nt walking 6-7) Scarpetta (when his lower body is right) and Ross (as of right now against inferior comp.) are about the only guys that you can usually count on for raking up a few k's. Love Greinke but as a big minor league guy, I REALLY miss Odorizzi....we need a replacement bad!
  8. With the Brewers current state of their system, the worse one in all of baseball, they can't afford to be scared or shy away from a price tag. If the person with the tag is the best available on their board, pull the trigger. I think I can get the Sheets comp. 93-96 fastball, great 12-6 curveball and a good change up.
  9. Id be happy if Cubs went Mahtook, no knock on him but I personally would rather have Springer at 15. He is bigger, faster, supier arm, quicker wrist and swing, better college performer, and I think has a higher ceiling as where Mahtook is a little lower ceiling with close to equal floor. If we went Mahtook though 15 id be fine with that. Both will be 22 to start next season so not as excited about more old guys stuck A ball. Maybe they will get Hunter Morris treatment though to off-set it
  10. Ha thats fine Mass, your is much better. Is it sad that I really enjoy these DSL prospect like 100x more than most of our system right now? Ha, either that is a huge compliment to our DSL or a huge knock on our system. Our "most talented" team prospect-wise has already been eliminated from the first-half of the season play-off race. Thornburg and Ross have been dominate but are still facing far inferior competition. Really our whole system is just uninspiring. Komatsu, Ross, Thornburg, Khris Davis, Morris, Mike Walker, Gamel, and some others have been bright spots but boy do we really need to hit on some prospects badly. Today's performance by all teams in the states goes to prove that. 12 and 15 are huge but I think we will need some other big hits in rounds 2-50. I hope not guys who will be spending age 22-24 stuck in A ball playing okay but with Seid drafting there is a great chance of that.
  11. Asking for way to much money was the issue with both of them. Both were thought of as top prospects in the draft and could have gone from 1-5 easy. So if Gerrit Cole and and the likes of Anthony Rendon were to set extreme standards for signing such as Weaver and Drew and fall to 12 and 15 that would be incredible but doubtful. Weaver and Drew were strongly considered by Padres for number 1 spot before Towers made one of the worse pick in baseball history, Matt Bush. So if this plays out like 2004 I would be the happiest man in the world!!! Even more if it is the price of Starling and Bradley that bring them to us but once again not too likely.
  12. Is it safe to say that the Brewers might have landed a few extremely raw blue chippers? I have never seen such a string of impressive DSL pitching lines. As of right now the whole team has been pretty impressive and I am really hoping a few of these guys will turn out to be gems. Pitching has been awesome. Offense has been pretty good, hopefully all this can continue.
  13. Well on the plus side in an awful minor league day the DSL team stays undefeated. Rather odd that after most of there big signing bonus players and top prospects such as Pascual, Arias, Garcia, Martinez, Puello, and etc. they stop losing every game and start playing good baseball. New pitcher Milton Gomez (turned 17 in April) was outstanding in his debut going 6IP 6H 0ER 0BB 7Ks. The big 6'6 240 (20 in August) earns third save in fourth game. Ruben Ozuna stole the show offensively with a 3-4 1HR 3RBI game. Frankie Castillio (18 in on the 4th) recorded his second multi-hit game in two days going 2-5. Catcher Carlos Pena was 1-2 2BB's and an RBI while De La Cruz was 2-4. Sadly, Arcia was hitless but added his 3BB in 4 games.
  14. I am pulling for him and a big fan. I have dumb tool-ish 20 year old pic of myself as do prob 95% people (can't claim the ab picture though) so it is really hard to fault a 20 year old for being immature with a bunch of good friends back home, out of the public eyes( or suppose to be). "Star" baseball player or not maturity takes time and that would be extremely hypocritical on my behave to judge him for acting his age. (Also I think I have heard people before mention "underage drinking" but like all but 2 countries in the entire world the drinking is under the age of 21 and 18 in Canada). He has an attitude, yes, he is walking a very thin line of confidence and arrogence, yes, but I love players who play with confidence and swag. He may act like a donkey's butt time to time but he is a max effort, all out, confident, great bat player. Hard to hate that. Plus I like the fact that the Brewers hit on a prospect, and I like to see them succeed outside of games against the Crew. Brantley, Lawrie, Cain, Cruz, Escobar, LaPorta and etc. I never thought his comments were personal attacks against the Brewers like some really push but I am happy is now in a place were he has a spot. Best of Luck to Brett!
  15. I bet Yadier can't wait til Helena baseball starts up, he has been so over matched thus far. I really don't see him Roberts staying (depending on health of George and Garfield) once rookie ball starts. It was great experience for them but the jump from Arizona to MWL has not been to friendly for them. Now I am kind of happy they didn't push Walla up, they all still really need some R+ ball.
  16. It is getting really hard to be excited over college player success at Helena..all it leads to is let down. Since the time of Captain Lou, I continue to be let down once these college players leave there.
  17. Yeah this bad. Nelson has been so inconsistant. He will have a terrible start, an okay start, a bad start, a really good start and then a terrible start....he is all over the place. Not a fan of another college early pick getting rocked in MWL. This next draft class is hugh for Bruce Seid, hope he gets it right. Edit: On the plus side, he battled through the awful 2nd and 3rd to have a very good 4th and 5th. Some character, many guys would crumble and need to be taken out after that but he overcame it. Bowling Green Bottom of the 4th Cody Rogers strikes out swinging. Kevin Kiermaier strikes out swinging. Derek Dietrich walks. Phillip Wunderlich strikes out swinging. Bowling Green Bottom of the 5th Julio Cedeno flies out to left fielder Robert Garvey. Steven Tinoco grounds out, pitcher Jimmy Nelson to first baseman Cody Hawn. Alejandro Torres walks. Robi Estrada grounds out to first baseman Cody Hawn.
  18. I think this draft may the most exciting one to watch unfold since I begun following closely in 2003 (was big into the Young or Weeks debate, that kinda got me into it). So many guys can either be top 5 picks or drop down to the Brewers #15 because of how deep this draft is. You have guys like Lindor and Springer who both at times have been locked in as high a #2 or #3 now you see them ranging all the way down to 17-18 and there is a lot of cases like that. Cole, Rendon, Hultzen are top 5 locks it appears but then Starling, Bundy, Lindor, J. Bradley, Bauer, A. Bradley, Jungmann, Gray, Purke, Guierrieri, Barnes, Springer, amongst others all could really fall in anywhere in the top 15 picks and not be a reach. I'm excited
  19. Yeah I don't think the Brewers are in a position to pick safe or worry about signing bonuses. As of right now, our system is not good and we really lack top end talent. Take the best two guys with the highest ceilings available at those spots. They have it budgeted and if they pay a little more all that means is we can't spend as much on the 15-20 rd guys. Brewers have proved that they will do everything in there power to lock up there top 20 or so picks. Not many sneak through the cracks. A. Bradley, Lindor, Guierrieri, Baez, Swihart, Norris, Springer, Mahtook, Gray, Barnes, are all guys i'd take with open arms in this draft at 12-15 Howard, Nimmo, Fernandez, Fisher, Hedges are outside shots for 15 but in a normal draft class they would usually fit right in there. Cron and Michaels would be okay. Not as high on but hey another LaPorta wouldnt be the end of the world, Levi Michaels is said to be a poor mans S. Drew. Some of the guys I'd like to see in round 2 or 3 3B Bichette Jr. SS Christian Lopes, SS Phillip Evans, 1B Dan Vogelbach, 2B Joshua Tobias, SS Tyler Greene, OF Larry Greene, SS/RHP Trevor Story, 3B Jason Esposito, C/1B Nicky Delmonico, RHP Kyle Winkler, OF Billy Flamion, LHP Sean Gilmartin, SS Brandon Loy
  20. Hey DSL Brewers....lets play 16!!!!! Elvis Rubio made his much anticipated debut (well for me anyway) Gian Rizzo who Mass mentioned in the DSL forum earlier today made his debut going 3 scoreless with 1 h & bb with 5 ks in relief for Montano. Let the hype of 16 year old SS Orlando Arcia continue to grow! another 2-4 game adding a 2 run homer and a walk. Mondesi Jr. added 2 BB's to go with a 2-6 night. Yonki Hernandez may have went 0-6 but conitues where he left off last year with 2 BB's. Guy just gets on base (last year 207 BA .381 OBP)
  21. Man Hall has been great thus fan but boy I wish he could rack up a few K's. I orginally thought he was more of a power arm-strike type of pitcher but so far been rather disappointed in that aspect. However Ks are not everything, he is doing is job, not walking batters and not giving up runs. Really nice to see Rivera start to get some hits the last week. It would be awesome if his bat can really start to get going and he can cut down the k'd (add a few more BB's instead)
  22. You can almost always make a great bat work (you can somewhere to hide them) but you can't always make a great defender work (Defense is no good if you have to sit on the bench) I'd take a Lawrie or Baez 100x over before I go good defender. With prospects how well they hit is the most important thing.
  23. Standing O for thecrew07! Awesome post, couldn't put any of your main points better. The exact reason I hammer youth so much.
  24. Its amazing, everyone and there mom realizes guys like Ross and Thornburg are to old to be left dominating in the Midwest League and should be challenged except Nichols.... Also thecrew07 hit it on the end, everyone's ceiling is a reliever to some of these guys. Thornburg develops a good change-up they is no reason he can't be a #3 ot #4 guy. Also I think Law needs to check out the rosters, a 22 year old isn't "WAY" to old for the Midwest league 21 is about the average. Funny, guys 20 are young and 22 way to old... amazing.
  25. Cron equals LaPorta and would be possibly in the similar position depending on Fielder( staying or going), Gamel ( how well he preforms), and if a guy like Morris or Haton, Hawn stake claims to the position. Cron like LaPorta is limited and 1B/DH will be his home. Fielder was a hs kid with power up tha wazzoo, famous bloodlines, and extremely high ceiling.... Cron may some power and d questions but all comparisons stop there.
