Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
YoungGeezy replied to battlekow's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Not to sharp, think they are out aft this game. Get him signed and workin in Arizona. -
Seen WAY to much Pirates love, this season we have pounded them as we have for past many years, some things don't change. 5-2 is a friendly guess, thinking more 6-1 Cards 2-1 @Astros 2-1 @Cards1-2 Pirates 2-1 Dodgers2-2 @Mets 2-1 @Pirates 3-1 Cubs 2-1 Cards 1-1 17-11 High end 14-14 low end

Getting hard to argue, Wily Peralta IS the number 1 Brewer prospect! That is now and after Jungmann, Bradley, Lopez sign. Thornburg falls from 1b to 2 in my eyes. What Wily has done over the last 6 starts has been incredible. Since July 6GS 41IP 23 H 3ER 13BB 38K'S Coming to 4-0 .066 ERA 5H/9 2.86 BB/9 8.34 K/9 0.87 WHIP and a FIP in i believe the low 3's (think my calculation is incorrect)

Disappointed in Brewers Deadline Moves
YoungGeezy replied to BadgerFan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Hard to be disappointed in getting Greinke, Marcum, K-Rod, Lopez, Haiston Jr. Yes I count both Greinke and Marcum because they were moves that were made to win NOW. I don't care if they didn't make some giant splash because they already had in the off-season and had another big one during All-Star break. Sure, Counsell, Wilson, Kotsay, Bethencourt could all easily be upgraded over which in fact the Brewers did do with Lopez and Hairston. Way to much hype goes into the deadline because most times you dont have the Sabathia type performance. We are thin in the minors and we are not a team that has a budget that that is a fine isue to have. We NEED a strong system in order to compete. Both to fuel the future and future trades. We trade anymore away we would have zero to work with next year. Ask is this team better than it was prior to mid season trades, if yes, dont be disappointed. -
This is just getting sickning. What in gods world does Taylor need to do? Unreal that Doug will not give him a shot to help the Brewers.
-
Well since he'd only be replacing Weeks for 3-6 weeks I personally would love to have the Jeff Kent type 2B out there. Yes, worse defensive IF in baseball, but at least we will have a hint of production that we will not get out of Counsell, Wilson, Farris, and Lopez (assuming he doesnt return to form.) It not like he needs to be ther everyday, rotate him around between the two. He has earned his shot. If they all of a sudden want to act like they care about fielding that is a joke. You don't make a team with McGehee, Bethencourt, Fielder and expect to be good defensively
-
Add another homer for Green (3-3 2hr 1dd) , I guess DM doesnt realize he may just have the answer at 2nd right under his nose as Jeff Kent Jr awaits....What more does Green need to do? Guy is only hitting .330 17 bombs and 28 doubles 43/55 bb/k ratio and a .957 OPS. He can't say they can't find room for him to play at 3rd and 2nd anymore, time to pull the trigger

Everyone rates different. I am one of the few who doesn't rate as highly on pure talent. That can be seen on my top 10 on the 1st or 2nd page. I'm one of the few who did not have Arcia ranked and I described it the same as above, he has only done it in DSL and I will wait til he gets to the states before I decide what kind of prospect he is. (Outside of some Carlos Martinez types, it is hard to get a great read on DSL players. Just so little info.) Based on pure talent Bradley, Jungmann, Peralta, Thornburg, Arcia, Richardson, Gennett, Ozuna? (Bruce Seid has me believing so), Rogers, Scarpetta in some order as of now would prob be the top 10 most naturally talented, high ceiling guys in my eyes but due to performance grades guys like Green, Gindl, Schafer, Komatsu, Heckathorn, Khris Davis.....etc sneak in there even though they may not have as high of ceilings. All how you favor ranking players. As a football and track coach it is hard for me to look at talent alone or as most of the pie because I see it all the time....talent doesn't always translate into great performance. So that is why I rate the way I do.
-
Its not that I dont think draft picks will be good, high prospects, I just prefer them to at least throw a pitch or swing a bat professionally before I get done on my knees and hail to their greatness. Bradley couldnt dominate college hitters and lost his ACE spot, Jungmann dominated but has awful and jerky mechanics, is inconsistant around the plate, and secondary stuff is not dominate. They give no reason outside of draft position to lead me to believe that they are in fact top prospects. Like Crew said it is preference. Top prospect is something to be earned IMO and not based soley on draft position and college/hs percormance. I hope they do work there way up to a top crew prospect but they have to do it on the field. Peralta has, Thorny has....Jungmann has not. I also dont hold DSL, AZ, and Helena rookie at a high standard unless it is a young talent (16-19) like Walla, Rivera, Arcia, Ozuna. Caption Lou taught me a lesson. Also Strasburg is a once a decade pitcher, so cant even use him. Gerrit Cole.....as of now ill stick with Peralta. He has great stuff but has yet to play pro ball and was not "untouchable" in college. Could very well bust. #1 overall doesnt equal greatest prospect ever. Plenty of proof to that. Top 10 is still even a crap shot. So why say that draft position and the hope he can really pitch trump all?
-
See I hate including guys in top 10 before they even touch the field. I dont think because they were pick at this spot or this spot they auto jump to #1 or so on. Id like them to have a lil success before I throw them up as a top prospect. Really all it does is lead to disappointment and is down from that spot. Example Arnett. Id take a Peralta, Thorny, Heckathorn, Scarpetta anyday of the week because I know what they offer as a prospect, they have track records and have proved themselves. Jungmann and Bradley have proved nothing outside of that they have "potential" to be good. Next May if they are looking good ill start to think bout it but they have to show something first. Nothing should be given without earning and them holding out has hurt them.

Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5

To me I think the most impressive thing with D'Vo is how much has brought down the k's so far this season, He struck out about 31% of time in 2010 and thus far is around only 15% of the time in 2011. The massive holes in his swing killed him last year. Only thing is, can someone please teach him how to steal and not be picked off!?! Such an athlete but so far 26 of 51...yikes

THIS IS UNREAL!!!!! FREE RIVERA and RAMIREZ!!!! Rivera is now at 7 straight multi-hit games and at least 12 games total (maybe more) Ramirez is at 6 straight multi-hit games and 8 of last 9. 9 game hit streak.1.336 OPS in last 10 with 6 bombs 17 rbis 5 doubles and 0 walks have gone to towars that OPS ( why walk when you are this hot I guess). Battin.455 over last 10 as well.

Well to me, the list is Yaddy Rivera and 9 other guys, he is just that far ahead right now http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif In all seriousness though, this is kind of what I am thinking Top Tier (Guys I feel are legit top 50-100 minor league prospects 1. Wily Peralta 2. Tyler Thornburg *Reason being is simply Peralta has a longer track record. Love both, when it comes to pure stuff I it is close but Wily may have him. Overall to me it is more 1a & 1b as it is 1 and 2 Second Tier (Everyday Starter) 3. Cody Scarpetta- when is lower body is right and he is throwing strikes, sky is the limit, when his lower half is off and he is out of the zone, the limit is the sky. One of the sickest curveballs I have seen out of a Brewer minor league pitcher in awhile. Has the fastball to match. Just needs to throw strikes 4. Taylor Green- Was so promising a few years ago then the wrist injuries came and his future looked like a UT IF at best, now they are heeled and has me thinking he could be a legit starting 3rd baseman or a Jeff Kent like 2nd if something was to ever happen. Excited to see the wrist back and him back to form. 5. Scooter Gennett- Had one terrible month this season which hurt the numbers but still is a promising prospect. Like to see him add at least a little to his ultra-tiny frame but I will stick with my belief that he could be a Dustin Pedroia 6. Mark Rogers- Healthy and throwing strikes, he is top tier 1-3 range, right now, 6 is extremely nice. I personally think it is time to look to the future and make use of that explosive arm and switch him to the pen, but we will see. Think Peralta will earn the next rotation opening when one comes, which where does that leave Mark? 7. Khris Davis- No secret, I love the the guy, he has single handedly made me a Reid Nichols hater due to the way he has been treated and held back. While doesn't have an arm, what more could you ask of a player? He is dominating in a pitchers league, unlike Brock who had one awesome month and 2 1/2 not so good, he has had 3 1/2 awesome months and the is 0! reason that he should still be in A+. I think he will be an everyday starter someday soon (Maybe with the Mets since Nichols doesn't want him) 8.Caleb Gindl- I have always like Gindl and am excited to see the way he is playing in his first go of AAA ball. Do I think he is an everyday starter....im right on the fence. Still young, I think the biggest question is does he repeat AAA or compete for the 4th OF spot? Is the 4th OF good for his development? Curious to see. 9. Kyle Heckathorn- Ugh, he gets outs and that is what really matters but not a fan of falling out of my chair in excitement if he can rack up 5-6ks in an outing. You expect that out of your top pitching prospects. He is a good pitcher and I really like him but I get fustrated just waiting for that big game where the k's finally come. I think right now he is more of a 4-5 since he is just a groundball pitcher but if he can start to finally find a way to miss a few bats he will quickly start to look like a 2-4 (mean I think 3) 10. Logan Schafer- Can hit, cna play D. and the Brewers have shown that they really like the kid. He is not a WOW player but is a guy who is all around good. Hard to really find spots to nag on (outside of injuries). Hope he gets to AAA soon. HM Erik Komatsu-close but not completely sold on him being everyday starter. I see him as a really nice 4th guy but yeah, if he can't stick at CF, in my eyes his stock drops a bit. Amaury Rivas- Consistancy, he doesn't have that pure stuff like Peralta and Scarpetta were it is easy to overlook some flaws but still think he is a nice 4-5 option or a long reliever. (An Estrada type) Nicholas Bucci- Hit a rough patch but he is still very young, learning, and growing as a pitcher. Still not sold on him as a top 10 yet but a strong finish in BC and a good season in AA next year could easily put him in. Hunter Morris- Think he is going to be an everyday player but don't think he has quite as much upside as the Davis, Gindl, Scooter, Schafer Eic Farris- Think we will be a great addition next season to the offense as the main UT IF next season. Offers defense, a decent bat, and speed. Santo Manzanillo- great back end of rotation stuff. Can light up the gun and has been throwing strikes Rob Wotten- Favorite Brewers reliever in the system, if not injuries last season he would be in Milwaukee. 09 AA Braddock-Wooten combo to close out games.....sick! Happy he is back, get him to AAA....NOW! Ruben Ozuna- Ruben Sanchez was maybe one of my top 5 favs in 10' to follow, name may has changed but not much else. Seid just raved about the kid and he has advanced three levels in 2 months. Not to bad. The why nots Kentrail and D'Vo have so much potential but have yet to really shine and when they do it turns right back off ( D'Vo will hit .320 in a month then hit .180, then hit .300 then hit .215) Both can quickly rise. Orlando Arcia- yes, yes, yes, I understand how talented he is (remember I am a DSL Nut, favorite team to follow) but I cannot put a 17 year old DSL player in the top 10 after 2 months. He has tools, can hit the crap out of the ball, is a SS, is brother is on his way to being a top 20 player in all of minor league ball but I just like a little track record. Now if next season he starts in Helena and starts hitting crazy, then I am all in, but state first. Really same boat as Ozuna. Prove yourself here and you will move up. (No, not saying Ozuna is more talent either as some may take it) Jimmy Nelson- The cold weather of Wisconsin doesn't help to many pitchers and hitters to get rolling in April and into May but as the summer has heated up so has Nelson. I am happy to see him turning it on but after such a rough start and not exciting all-round numbers, we will need to keep rolling before I can move him up Who will move up fast Yadiel Rivera, Orlando Arcia, Brooks Hall, Tyler "Big Country" Roberts, Max Walla, Jose Garcia, STOSH! are some of the guys I really like. Andres Martinez as well but not excited that he is no longer playing SS (at least yet). Schaub is a guy who I'm anxious to see.
-
I am pretty much to the point were I get as getty and excited as a middle school girl to see the damage Rivera and Ramirez are causing every night right now. It unbelievable! Wish there was a place for Ramirez in Wisconsin right now. It could be just a hot streak but with the power, outstanding hitting, recent walks, is starting to get me really excited with Yadiel. He is only 19 so its not like a college guy where you expect this hitting (Ramirez). It is always great when you get flashes like this and are able to see how could they really could be. (Bad news is they can be just that, flashes, check Carlos Gomez). K's have been a huge issue but seems like he has his confidence back (before he left T-Rats he was starting to come around). Hopefully he will get a second crack and excel. A legit SS prospect would be a nice little treat. Sidenote, Rivera now has a six game multihit streak going and at least a 11 game overall (may be more) 5/12 bb/k ration in last 10 looks much better than the 1/25 he had prior to the past 11 games

The Future of Draft Pick Compensation
YoungGeezy replied to RyDogg66's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
nothing wrong with arbitration but things MUST be changed in terms of how Type A and B ratings are given out. It is flat out sickning how many players get graded and over graded. They hand out type A's like candy at a parade. It is uncalled for. Teams just bank on compensation when they shouldn't because many of these players are not nearly worth what they graded. Prince Fielder is a Type A, K-Rod-Type A, Pulos, and etc.... guys who are legit annual all-stars, possible HOF players. In 2010 names such as Athur Rhodes, Benji Molina, Jorge De la Rosa, Migual Tejada (5 years ago yes, 2010 noway in he double hockey sticks), Roman Hernandez, Jason Kubel, Jason Fransor and etc.. the list http://www.aolnews.com/20...y-elias-player-rankings/ Type B FA need to be guys who are possible All-stars here and there and extremely important everyday players such as a Cory Hart should be and what a Jayson Werth SHOULD have been. The link has about 31 Type A's given out, 49 Type B. 2011 Draft had 33, REPEAT 33 (4 of them where where teams took picks) compensations given out!!!! That is more than a whole extra round of the draft! Plus 3 more teams gain picks 2nd round. Its wonderful when the second round doesn't even start until pick 61  While big market teams will still gain their picks it will be less, (no more picking up 9 day 1 picks for an already outstanding team and farm system). I think comps can be a good thing but not when you are giving crap to medicore players type A and B's. They should be for elite and very good, plus players. The way they hand them out Yuni looks to be a B but who knows, a few more HR's and they may give him an A. Complete Joke of a system....terrible Whole thing really bugs me. -
Well looks like we hit on another 3rd round pitcher for the 2nd straight year! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Congrats to Drew on the outstanding start to his Brewer career. Jimmy Nelson is really starting to heat up. Nearly makes me want to say eat crow to all those who a couple a months ago where already complaining he was a complete bust, a terrible pick, had no future, Arnett 2.0 and all that other crap after 2 bad months. I'm excited with what he is starting to do. Granted he is a freshly 22 yr old pitcher in the Midwest league and this is expected out of him, it is really nice to see. Hope it can continue!

With the huge praise from Melvin and Ash, i think they are considering him a top prospect in the system. Will not get the national attention or even power 50 hype because he is strictly a reliever but I have a feeling they are excited for the flame throwing, back end reliever. What we consider a top prospect might be A LOT different than Melvin. That is IMO. I have a feeling McClendon is a lock then I would have to go with one of our OF's in the system. Due to Nichols refusing to treat Khris Davis like a deserving prospect over the past 2 seasons, I would put him as the other. (I tend to vent about this at every opening, feel awful for Khris, nothing else he could do.)
-
Thanks for the information, makes you wonder. Dillard and McClendon jump off the paper to me as possible options (they do need to replace a bullpen pitcher). Rogers popped in my head but with the injury and rough season not sure if he'd be able to "have a spot right now." Herrera seem unlikely. De la Cruz has pitched in the majors and is having a solid season but doubt him as well. Boggs and Carroll fit the bill as well. Gamel I have a hard time seeing. With Prince likely gone, McGehee's struggles, and the fact he has been considered a top prospect in the system for awhile even considering his age) hard to believe it is him. McClendon or Dillard leaning towards t being McClendon

Jeff Cirillo - on air personality
YoungGeezy replied to liveforoctober's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Cirrillo sounded a little better today from what is saw (yesterday he would really drop off at times and you really couldn't hear him). It seems he has gotten better and more confrontable each day. I can deal with not having that big voice because he doesn't beat around the bush and gives great analysis. He has personality but hard to show it with no chemistry between him and BA (I think him and Sutton would have been a great combo, but I was a big Sutton fan).
