  1. The part I wonder is if (when?) Ohtani can't pitch at an elite level, how much more outcry there will be paying that much for a DH
  2. I had the realization that the optics are bad when it comes to the NFL being fair, and in certain ways, they certainly aren't, What evidence, as fans, do we have that a bad call is a conspiracy versus refs being humans and making mistakes? I think the accuracy of calls need to be improved across all sports, but does anyone have anything to prove it's a conspiracy other then sensationalized bad calls that can affect the game. For example, the Fail Mary wasn't a conspiracy. Neither was Dez's "catch"
  3. Not to mention the cost of parking has gone up dramatically. I go to a handful of games every year and it's alot easier to head to a bar and take the shuttle. 2 beers at the bar is a heck of a lot cheaper than tailgaiting
  4. OK, did a deepish dive here. I used fWAR and payroll via Spotrac. WAR ranged from Braves at the highest at 56.4 to Rox at 14.7. Total WAR across the league was 1060. Payrolls ranged from 343.6 mil for the Mets down to 61.9 mil for the A's. Total Payrolls across the league total 4.95 Billion. Interestingly enough wins/WAR doesn't appear to relevant. League wise $$ per WAR is interesting, though. The league average is 4.67 mil. Rays unsurprisingly took first with a meager 1.78 million per WAR. Both the Rockies and Angels take the cake at 11.5 WAR Brewers come in at 3rd overall behind the aforementioned Rays and Orioles at 2.8 million per WAR. All these numbers get pulled down from all the rookies making (near) minimum. I suppose FA $$/WAR is another beast. I'm pretty sure in analysis in individual WAR it was discovered that there's a steep incline in price per WAR the further you go up. It's alot easier to get players at 1-3 WAR than 4+ The top 50 players in WAR had at least 4.2WAR and not a single Brewer cracked that list. Which for a small market I think that's the way to go. Instead of paying through the nose for potentially elite WAR. Raise the floor on the entire team. Texas Rangers who spent double the Brewers had a very similar team WAR. The top 2 WAR getters were Garcia and Heim, both whom make 750k this year, meanwhile the top 5 expensive Rangers didn't add up to much other than 110 million on their own. I personally don't think WAR is the perfect metric but I wanted to see how everything lined up.
  5. Happy draft day, everyone!
  6. Nobody else can draft anybody if the Packers have all the picks
  7. I think alot of BF would be up in arms if we picked WR 3 of our first 4 picks.
  8. Robin Hood: MiT is a great classic. "This ain't exactly the Mississippi! I'm on one side, I'm on the other"
  9. Larry King passed at 87. Had Covid but cause of death not released yet. Man what an awful week.
  10. After losing a lung to cancer 5 years ago my mom remains cancer free. Despite all the crap going on, that has been one piece of great news.
  11. Cubs? Either that or Cardinals.

    Pizza

Just had a Jack's Mexican pizza for the potentially first time. (Alot of my memories of my pizza consuming time in college is a bit fuzzy.) Not bad for a cheap pizza.
  13. I saw 1917 and was really impressed with all the long tracking shots. It certainly gave the film a different feel.

    Pizza

Ditto on the Cauliflower crusts and while good, I do not consider it pizza. Just like how I like turkey bacon but do not consider it all to be real bacon.

    Pizza

Reticent? I thought about mentioning Pizza hut as a joke... I'm thinking "remiss." So, I grew up in Monroe in the 1980s, when Pizza Hut was the bomb. Now it's only a gut bomb. *rimshot* Nowadays, the SO is diabetic and is reluctant to go overboard on pizza, and I'm not likely to order a full pie for myself. But - the original Ian's location on Frances in Madison is a 5 minute walk away from our libraries and we both enjoy a slice or two there. For SO to opt for frozen pizza at home, he pretty much needs a nutrition label to make sure it doesn't whack out his carb count, so we most often get Di Giorno. Not in bulk or anything. Earlier in our time in Madison, we lived near the first Pizza Extreme location, and used to regularly get their taco pizza. That was a good pie. There's no way SO would eat that much carbness in one meal anymore, and again, I'm not ordering a full pie for myself. But there are times I'd opt for that taco pizza again if it were practical. Another location is not far from our current house, so I experience no shortage of temptations. Rocky's...is a pie I got tired of after the fall semester 1985, when I ordered a sausage slice every Monday and Wednesday before I went to work at my college library gig. We more often go for the salad bar, which for that kind of establishment is more solid than you'd think. I do like Rocky's breadsticks, though. Remiss. That's the word I was looking for. Its been a long week.

    Pizza

I'd be reminiscent as a Brewers fan who watches the game on TV to not acknowledge Pizza Ranch in a discussion about pizza places.
  17. Thank you guys! Dealing with a lot of stuff lately and it's nice to things turning around.
  18. I am in behavioral therapy and made my therapist cry because she was so happy to see the improvements I've made.
  19. Not all trades are going to be like the Gomez/Fiers trade. Like others have said, it takes value to get value. I think Yelich has a range of 30-45 WAR, meaning needing 7-11 WAR from the 4 prospects over their current contract. I think we will get more WAR from Yelich than the Marlins get from the 4, but I think it won't be that far away.
  20. That is exactly what I thought about Serenity. Movie is moving along nicely, it's enjoyable, then BAMO! Wrecked with stupid nonsense. FWIW, the spoiler was there because if there was a sequel, they needed to make things logical. That being said, if people wanted to still be involved, they would work around the spoiler. I'm going to see Captain Marvel tonight. I'm going into this not expecting it to be good, but to continue the saga of this lengthy multiverse. I am curious how things will impact the endgame. Captain Marvel is supposed to take place in the mid 90s before any of the Avengers take place. Some minor stuff from Agents of Shield have occurred but its a relatively dead period.
  21. His losses: 8 innings 2 ER 7 innings 1 ER 6 innings 3 ER 6 innings 3 ER 8 innings 2 ER 7 innings 3 ER 8 innings 2 ER 6 innings 1 ER 7 innings 2 ER He has only thrown two games (not including the early May games where something weird must have happened) where it wasn't a QS. They were games 1 and 3 of his season! One was opening day where he went 5 2/3 of one run ball and his third game he gave up 4 runs in 6 innings. Funny enough they won both of those games. That is some serious Ben Sheets type game logs. I know this is year 1 of the trade but personally I will wait another year or two to see how the prospects develop. Brantley, IIRC, didn't start kicking butt immediately after the CC trade.
