  1. You know, the Brewers will probably be looking for a FA pitcher to round out the rotation next season. Is this Sheets guy any good?
  2. Eh, why not. I'm skeptical of Rogers, but I'd rather watch him than Livan Hernandez or somebody like that.
  3. That Texas package seems pretty underwhelming. I imagine those conversations didn't last long once Melvin realized he wasn't getting Profar or Olt.
  4. I'm here to give this warning, which I give whenever anybody on this board says they are going to St. Louis: Stay far, far away from St. Louis style pizza. It is a hellish abomination of molten processed cheese on a cracker crust. It's absolutely horrible.
  5. With a nickname like Seggy, Roenicke will certainly like him, right? I wonder how long it will be until we hear about plans for Segura. He seems to have better pop in his bat than Escobar ever did, and his batting lines seem to stack up pretty well to Escobar's. I don't think his defense is as highly regarded, correct?
  6. I wonder if the plan is to put him in MLB right away? I'm assuming he'd easily outperform Izturis and/or Ransom already, but I'm wondering about the service time. That said, they might want to sell this trade by putting him in the bigs from day 1.
  7. Any word on the two pitchers? Segura would be a good pickup but I'd obviously want a couple of plus arms as well.
  8. I wonder if this sets up for the Brewers to get Marcum back on a cheap 1-2 year, incentive-laden deal. It looks like he'll end up making only about 18-20 starts this season if everything goes well.
  9. Agreed. You do a heck of a job with these IGT's. Too bad for me, the Nats' series is blacked out. I wish I could watch Fiers. Oh well.
  10. Well, Melvin did bring up Juan Perez from AAA when he was putting up a similar ~11K/9, 4.5BB/9 type of line.
  11. Sorry, I was just being a bit lazy. Check out his line from this season: 7K/9, 4.7BB/9, 1.2 HR/9. I know he's pitched well lately but when a guy has been as bad as Rogers in AAA this season it's going to take more than 20 innings and good velocity to convince me that he deserves a spot in the rotation. Give him August, and if he dominates maybe give him a few starts.
  12. It's his 1.5K/BB ratio that concerns me more than his ERA.
  13. I think all of those guys are non-tender candidates. Parra will be due for at least $1-$1.5MM in arbitration, Veras $2-$2.5MM, and Loe $2.5-$3MM. Loe has actually been pretty decent over the last couple seasons, despite that horrendous stretch last year (~3.75 ERA, 3.50 FIP). I'd probably hang onto him for next season. Veras and Parra don't seem worth it for $4.5MM total. Quite frankly, these guys just aren't terribly good at preventing the other team from parading across home plate. Non-tender them and if they're willing to sign for $.5-$1MM I'd have them back.
  14. Well, maybe if he continues to pitch like that for August he should get a few starts in September.
  15. Do we really expect much from Rogers at this point? He's had a ~5 ERA in AAA this season. His best season was a ~3.75 ERA in AA as a 24 year old. Do we really expect him to post a <5 ERA in the majors next season if he's given the opportunity to start? Just look at his pitching line in AAA this season. It's not good. Peralta at least has pretty good peripherals in AAA this season so a few starts to him couldn't hurt. I say they go Gallardo-Marcum-Estrada-Fiers-Peralta, and give Thornburg a couple of starts if they feel his arm is up for it. Fiers has clearly locked himself into the rotation for next season, and Estrada looks like a solid #5 starter.
  16. Parra was fairly good his first season as a starter (2008?). But after that, he's pretty much been horrible. If he doesn't have any options left (I don't think he does), I see no reason to keep him around outside of just being a warm body.
  17. Remember, it's baseball-reference providing their data. I don't really like ESPN (though I strangely still go there. I guess ESPN is like eating peas as a kid. You never really learn to like them, but you still eat them because you've grown used to them), but in this one area, they are not really in the wrong. Well then, what the heck does bWAR do that makes their oWAR calculation so goofy? I imagine their weights are pretty similar.
  18. Based on recent history these DFA then trade deals yield at best a moderate upside guy in the low minors with lots of question marks, right? Still better than nothing.
  19. I do believe that Axford will turn it around. Loe is a solid pen contributor so long as he faces more than a typical % of RHP, and I think most of us agree on that. Parra and Veras are marginal MLB players at this point and I expect both to be in the 4-4.5 ERA range going forward.
