  1. I'm willing to bet it's either Fiers or Estrada that's left out. I wouldn't mind seeing Estrada as the long man in the pen with Fiers and Wolf in the rotation, but so long as Fiers doesn't lose his spot to Wolf I'm not going to be too annoyed. Fiers' numbers this year so far are downright nasty: 2.13 ERA, 2.08 FIP, 3.01 xFIP, 5.13 K/BB. I don't really know what to think of Fiers going forward. I don't think it is an exaggeration to say he has been dominant thus far. But there's no way he can continue to perform at this level. Zips is very bullish on Fiers, projecting a 3.60 ERA going forward. At the very least, I think I'm comfortable saying Fiers should be in the rotation for this season and next, assuming the wheels don't completely fall off.
  2. I think they'll continue to be a weak bullpen, but I do think they'll improve. Their BABIP is almost .350 right now, and while part of that is Manny Parra and his crazy ability to carry an absurd BABIP, it would be surprising to see it stay that high for the remainder of the year. It almost seems amazing that they only have a 4.75 ERA, it seems like it should be at least 5.5. Guess that's just selective memory!
  3. Uh...Why did they do this?
  4. It is not fair to call it a bull pen. When a bull comes out of a pen it is ready to rage and destroy everything in its path. It's a Chicken Coop. No matter who gets the call the one who is drawn out of the coop will be slaughtered. No fight. Just lots of blood and a couple of squaks.
  5. See, I knew it all along! Edit: When fake quoting yourself it is wise to at least get the case sensitivity in your name correct.
  6. Braun's not the type of guy I want to see in the HR derby. I want to see the guys who will put one 475+ feet. Give me Russell Branyan, Giancarlo Stanton, Adam Dunn, Prince Fielder, etc. It's been mentioned here before, but I'd love to see a HR derby of "Stars" vs. "Goons", where the Stars team could be made up of the elite HR hitters in the game and the Goons team could be made up of big, brutish strikeout kings who crush the ball, even if they can't manage to find a starting lineup on a regular basis. With the way Braun gets nagging injuries, I'm happy he isn't participating. Another day off won't hurt. Of course they could also make the event far more enjoyable by changing the broadcast crew...
  7. Well, if Ben Sheets had been more like Yovani Gallardo he might have gotten more 1-0 victories! His "plate approach" was one of the worst I'd ever seen for a pitcher. If memory serves, Clemens won the Cy that year with his 18-4 record over Sheets and Randy Johnson, who had an even better year than Sheets. You still hear the same stuff about quarterbacks who "just don't know how to win". Hordes of people around Wisconsin and the rest of the nation (you know who you are) were calling out Aaron Rodgers after the Packers' 146-139 loss to the Cardinals in the playoffs a few years back. He just wasn't clutch and couldn't find a way to win!
  8. Was it a straight squeeze or a safety squeeze? From what I saw it didn't look like Weeks took off until he saw Aoki make contact. Regardless of the result, I'm not going to praise Roenicke for calling a squeeze/safety squeeze with 1st and 3rd, none out, and Aoki at the plate. Especially with Weeks at third, the odds on Aoki getting a ball to a place that allows Weeks to score are pretty good. A botched squeeze could have easily killed that inning.
  9. I was actually thinking the same thing myself. Maybe to try and get a sense if he's laboring through an undisclosed injury as the team is trying to ship him? Perhaps just to make sure his mechanics still look the same? The cost of sending a scout to a game with the team is probably pretty small, and when you're talking about trades for players that might be worth even $5 million it probably makes sense to cover all of the bases.
  10. But he hit a home run! I can't believe the arrogance of some of you folks, to argue with a hunch. Seriously I would love to spend a day presenting RR with batting lines and see which he prefers. If RR had the choice of these two lead off men which would he pick? A: .275/.365/.450 B: .265/.290/.400 , 25 SB's Gotta go with B.
  11. It should probably be mentioned that he's hitting almost .400 on balls in play. His K-rate is also really high for a guy with an ISO of about .065. I think he could probably outproduce Izturis but I'll stick with Ransom at SS for now.
  12. Not to rain on the parade, but I can name at least two players who are better at baseball than Braun. Fortunately they are locked safe inside my memory card for my PS2.
  13. That's brilliant. A 50,000 bonus is pretty common. If we get it together we could cost that ballclub half a mil.
  14. Next season, can brewerfan.net please "Rory Fitzpatrick" somebody? "During the 2006–07 NHL season, while playing for the Vancouver Canucks, despite having zero points in 18 games, Fitzpatrick finished third in All-Star Game voting for defensemen in the Western Conference with 550,177 votes, falling 23,000 votes shy of second place Nicklas Lidström, winner of 4 Norris Trophies and 3 Stanley Cups.[3] The idea was to use the new NHL procedure, where people were encouraged to vote as often as they liked, to have an unlikely candidate chosen. Contributors to this goal sent the idea across the Internet in the hopes of having Fitzpatrick voted in as one of the two starting defensemen for the Western Conference.[4] They also created several videos on Youtube as a way to spread news. A website, www.voteforrory.com, was created as well.[5] Rory peaked in balloting at the number 2 position, before eventually being bumped from participation in the game to third place. The plot was originally conceived as a humorous campaign designed to show the flaws in the NHL voting system. The logic was that if enough people voted for an unlikely player to start the game, the league would change its system. After some time, the plan metamorphosed for many into a more symbolic gesture." We can get Yuniesky Betancourt into the game. With legions of Brewers fans, Royals fans, and the SABRmetric horde, it can be done.
  15. I'm just not sure how you get through Spain's defense right now. I'm not sure I see a way back for Italy.
  16. Let's not forget that Suppan actually was a pretty good pitcher for most of his career. Even if Fiers doesn't seem to throw electric stuff, he's getting strikeouts at a much higher rate than Suppan ever did. Deception and pace can be difficult to see as a fan, perhaps he really is harder to hit than it looks. Only time will tell but it has been fun to follow him so far.
  17. Yeah, I like hangdog too. Especially given the hangdog state of this team's bullpen.
  18. I also remember a ton of stupid running into outs last season, "making things happen" moments especially early in the season.
  19. I still prefer replacing a certain vulgarity with "Kotsay". As in, "This sandwich tastes like Kotsay, bring me a new one!".
