  1. He has a .307 OBP hitting in front of the pitcher. He's a contact hitter that will excell in front of Braun. That's why. Actually, he has a .338 OBP hitting 8th. Its under .300 in every other spot in the lineup. He hits lefties well enough to be moved up, but hasn't hit righties in his career. I kind of agree with Baldkin. Lucroys stats don't point towards a table setter. I actually like him down in the line-up in the 6th spot. Last year he batted .255 with bases empty, .280 with men on, and .298 with men in scoring pos. I like him better as a RBI guy than a table-setter. He doesn't have much speed to offfer either in the 2 hole.
  2. There is nothing elite about Gonzo's defense. He is better defensively than Yuni but that is about it. My vote is for him. Also, I don't see where all the Gamel hate is coming from. Other than his struggles in very limited big league action what has he done to warrant all the hate? It wasn't long ago he was a top 50 prospect. He couldn't really control his playing time in the big leagues. When he gets regular ABs in the minors all he does is mash. What's not to like there?
  3. Trade Morgan, and play Gomez in CF with a 70-30 platoon with Schafer. Gomez only sitting against top tier RHP. I do realize he most likely will not break out and I do not expect that, but I am a huge fan of his defense and him batting in the 8th spot as a "spark plug." If Braun is suspended and the team struggles out of the gate Morgan’s antics are going to get really old really fast. It started to become annoying last year when they were playing great. I can just see the clubhouse getting out of control with no leadership there and a pushover manager in RRR. I hope it doesn't happen, but I just see Morgan going Morgan a few months into the season and everyone regretting he wasn't traded when he should have been. Not attitude related, but I had the same feeling about Casey this past offseason. A smart GM moves a filler guy after a career year, and doesn't hold hoping the feat is duplicated. Sell high right?
  4. I was thinking the NYCE Club would be renamed the Valtrex Club because it will always be hanging over Braun's head.
  5. Glad to have someone who sees the CF position next year the same way I do.
  6. If you watched Morgan all year you would know that he is not a good defensive player. My playoff example was used to reply to the prior OPs comment that Gomez defense is less than 10 runs better than Morgans over the course of a year. It was about 8 runs better in the postseason; so one can only imagine what it would be over the course of a year. Just because I can't put a concrete number on what Gomez's defense will bring doesn't mean I don't know it is a positive. So since you can't quanitfy the exact number of runs it will cost the Brewers having Braun suspended for 50 games does that mean you can't advocate that the lineup is better with him in it? Is Morgans bat really worth 20 more runs than Gomez over the course of 200 ABs? I doubt it. I still think Gomez defense is worth more runs than (Gomez's bat against RHP -Morgans bat against RHP). Even if Morgan bats over 80 points higher than Gomez over 200 ABs against RHP it is only an extra 16 hits.
  7. I saw Morgan cost the Brewers at least 4 runs in the playoffs alone last year, while I watched Gomez save that many. Morgan is a way overrated defender. I think Gomez is closer to 15+ runs better than Morgan in CF over the course of a year. We will just have to agree to disagree I guess. As long as we can agree that the Brewers are the +!%# we are good to go. I will say I haven't seen too much from Gomez to indicate a 180, but the age hopefully allows for some improvement. Gomez did look much better than Morgan in the post season with the bat and the glove. Small sample yes, but cause for hope Gomez could improve his bat.
  8. Agree with Thumper, it isn't cliche. When refering to spring competition, I think he was alluding to the competition between the players, which is always a good thing. Whether the GM and manager choose to evaluate players during this time is irrelevant.
  9. Morgan Career vs RHP: .310/.363/.401/.764 That's 1400 PAs, compare that to Gomez: .244/.293/.339/.632. He hits RHP. He can't hit LHP. As long as our manager realizes this, Morgan is by far the better choice in CF vs RHP. 80 points of OBP and 80 points of SLG is worth far more than whatever Gomez adds defensively and with his speed.I don't agree that Morgan is a far better choice against RHP. With the bat yes, but you can't really quanitfy how much good defense adds. I'm still going with Gomez as my everyday CF with Morgan platooning against RHP at about a 50/50 split. Gomez at 26 still has a shot to finally get it and improve. Morgan at 31 has reached his ceiling.
  10. You don't pay 2 something million just to negotiate with a guy if you don't think you can sign him. I would vomit in my mouth if the Brewer'signed Derek Lee to play 1B. Gamel will be just fine there and cheaper. Lee would be a horrible move. They already signed one ex-Cub in the twilight of his career, and you want another?
  11. Morgan had almost the exact same year he had from 2007-2009 (.303/.362/.391 vs .304/.357/.421 in 2011) . I have no doubt he can reproduce what he did in 2011 if he's platooned vs LHP again. I agree with Prince that Morgan will never repeat the year he had last year and this is why. Yes, his overall stats look very similar, but you have to look at ABs. Last year Morgan had 378 ABs and posted .304/.357/.421. The only other times in his career he has gotten around or above those levels is when he has had less than 200 ABs. I think the fact that Morgan was able to sustain those numbers "long-term" last year was a fluke. Outside of last year the two other season he had over 200 ABs his line looks more like .265/.335/.335. Morgans only value is in a very limited role against RHP. This is why I do not want to see Morgan starting in CF. Gomez defense and speed > Morgans .300 average for 150 ABs.
  12. Agree with that. I have stayed out of the thread since the first few pages. So much conflicting information. No way. Morgan is a plus defender. He isn't as good as Gomez but his offense is actually pretty good against RHP. Gomez just can't hit. If Morgan could hit LHP at all I would trade Gomez. I guess I missed the hate for Gomez. I thought it was prety much restricted to DPR and his bad decisions.I disagree, Morgan is fast, but Morgan is not a good defender. He is an average CF that is very bad at going back on balls, and he has zero arm. Gomez defense > Morgans bat. I would trade Morgan over Gomez every day of the week.
  13. vs. RHP 1. Weeks 2. Hart 3. Braun 4. Ramirez 5. Gamel 6. Lucroy 7. Gonzalez 8. Gomez vs. LHP 1. Weeks 2. Hart 3. Braun 4. Ramirez 5. Lucroy 6. Gonzalez 7. Gamel 8. Gomez I will worry about Braun being out when it is officially announced. I want Gomez to be the Brewers starting CF in 2012 sharing about half the starts with Morgan against RHP. His defense is just too good. I think all the Gomez hate of 2011, mine included, was due to the fact RRR continually ran him out in the 2 hole the first two months of the year. Gomez in the 8th spot everyday I like.
  14. With Marcum's contract being up after this year (and possibly his performance the last 6 weeks of the season), I don't think teams would be willing to give up a young pitcher for him. I think Hart could bring back a young pitcher because he has a pretty team-friendly contract but with the loss of Prince and possibly Braun, I don't think that would be a good idea. I might be willing to move him next year though if Gindl hits well again this year.I agree, I think trading Marcum now would be a huge mistake. I would like more young pitching as well, but Marcum's value is the lowest it has ever been/will ever be right now. I think with Peralta, Thornburg, Jungman, and Bradley we have an okay amount of young pitching talent. I think Marcum has more value in the starting rotation this coming year than he does as trade bait. Good marcum will be back to start the 2012 season.
  15. I personally really like the signing. Aramis is almost a lock to hit 30+HR next year playing at half the games at Miller Park. Like other members mentioned earlier I believe A Ram, A Gonz, and Gamel will equal the production of Casey, Yuni, Prince, and the defense of will improve too (No thanks to Ramirez). With that said I also was looking forward to seeing what Green could do at 3B, but there are big ifs in that scenerio. I am 10x more comfortable with the thought of A Ram and Gamel as I was with the thought of Green and Gamel. I am way higher on Gamel than Green. Gamel has produced his entire minor league career. Green has been solid, but who is to say his production from last year at AAA would ever translate to major leagues. I think Green still plays a big role next year and will get a good amount of time at 3B when A Ram gets a day off or gives Gamel a break at 1st.
  16. Well played Melvin. Better move would have been to trade him after the 2010 season, but at least we got something.
  17. You sir are on the same page as me. Agree with everything you said. I don't get why everyone thinks Kendrys is so great. He has had one good year in his entire career, ONE. He put together a good season in 2009 when he played 152 games. The other 4 years he played in the bigs he played in a total 178 games. Why do we want to trade for this guy????
  18. I don't see why he wouldn't move to third.
  19. No thanks, the guy is on the decline. K's going down ERA going up. Not sure what it would take in a trade to get him, but there isn't really anyone I would give up for him.
  20. No Reyes = No quality unless they make a trade. No Farm= No quality in return in a trade without moving top talent. I get the feeling the Brewers make a splash and get Reyes or we all suffer through another year of Yuni. Not really sure I like either of those options.
  21. Completely agree, all the Caleb Gindl projects at most as a 4th OF talk is garbage. I have been high on him for a long time and all he has ever done is produce at every stop in the minors. Might not have the power Hart has but he has pop and will be a better defender. I really would like to see Hart traded for pitching propects or an upgrade at 3B or SS. Hart has a lot more trade value that people think. I could go either way with Prince. If he was re-signed it would be great, but I wouldn't be upset if he left.
  22. I'm on the 5 year/ 100 mil bandwagon. Signing him for more would kill this franchise. His bat is great and nearly impossible to replace, but he is a liability on defense. The money he would be paid could be used much more wisely and benefit the franchise much more.
  23. This, I honestly wouldn't be one bit upset to see him go. Like a prior poster stated he doesn't bring enough to the table to get the amount of money he is due.
