  1. I'm not really going to pay attention to defensive stats for a single season if we're comparing a 1B pretending to be an outfielder to a guy who's played outfield his whole life. I'm sure Grandy has lost speed since his heyday but he can still read a flyball, which Thames is very questionable at doing.
  2. Dillard or we riot.
  3. The speed guy is Broxton. And he can do other things besides run too.
  4. Looks like it stopped now but was pretty darn hard to start the inning.
  5. The rain doesn't seem to be effecting Jeremy. Orlando booting one is what hurt him.
  6. On the one hand, the umps need to get this game finished. On the other hand, this is not easy to pitch in.
  7. Someone needs to drill Soto for being an annoying turd.
  8. Craig seems really perturbed with umpires lately. Not enough to really do anything, just generally annoyed.
  9. We gave up nothing but it was still more than I would have guessed.
  10. Just needed a really good scouting report on the Nats hitters for this series. He'll be released on Monday.
  11. Kind of, he's off the 40 man now so someone else would have to go.
  12. Saw something that the team decided to give Guerra another start Sunday against Scherzer as it stands now. Good thing I have a fantasy draft during the game. Might as well start your worst pitcher against one of the best in baseball. You're probably going to lose anyway, what difference does it matter if you lose 3-1 or 13-1?
  13. I see Scherzer is listed as probable but on the TV broadcast they said multiple times during the Reds series they weren't facing him.
  14. While still an above average hitter, he's nothing special anymore and the numbers show his defense is average or below. He's really just a name at this point.
  15. I'm not sure what's so hard to understand right now. The umpires determined he was pulling the bat back and not trying to bunt, making it a check swing. So the foul ball is just a foul ball, same as if it were a check swing. If the ball would have went fair, it would be a fair ball, same as a check swing. If the ball would have missed the bat, it would have been called a ball, same as a check swing. If the ball would have hit him, it would have been a HBP, same as a check swing. You can disagree with whether or not it was a bunt attempt but once the umpire determines he wasn't trying to bunt, the results are cut and dried with no room for interpretation.
  16. That's just how the NFL works. Especially with QB's.
  17. You nailed it. Just curious.....based on what? I have since looked up Olczak, Sanchez and Wilson.... and I dont see anything interesting about their stats (ok, Olczak had a good year) or backgrounds that make any of them special or...... risers on "our" 25 best prospects lists.. Brewers generally send random, no name pitchers to the AFL. It seems most teams do that. Probably not worth the extra innings on their arms and teams only send guys who need more innings.
  18. August 31 is just the deadline for playoff rosters, you can still trade for someone after August 31. Obviously any player you trade for you would like to have for the playoffs but you need to get there first. And they could really need some pitching help in any role to get there.
  19. If you square around to bunt, see the ball screaming right at you, try to turn/dodge/duck/whatever, but the bat stays in the zone, it can easily be interpreted as not intentionally trying to bunt. You WERE trying to bunt initially, but you changed your action to trying to avoid being hit. As I said in a previous post and as other have mentioned, the intent is up to interpretation, but it is certainly easy to see how a bat could be in the zone, yet the batter isn't intentionally trying to bunt. I do see your point, but doesn't that scenario seem wildly ridiculous? How can you be squared to bunt with the bat in the zone and not actually trying to bunt? If it's in the zone, you are in the act of trying to bunt. Black and white. Just like if you swing the bat and try to stop, if the bat crosses the zone...it's offering at the ball and is a swinging strike. I really don't see an argument to the contrary. Otherwise any batter that ever bunts foul for strike 3 can argue they changed their mind at the last second and it shouldn't be strike 3. The real problem is the rule needs to be re-written to avoid the types of interpretations many of you are making. I don't think a rule needs to be re-written due to something that happens once every decade or so. In my 20+ years of playing, watching, and coaching baseball I've never seen that before last night. I hate that the call went the way it did but I accept the umpire's explanation and understand how it could be seen the other way.
  20. Brewer pitcher injured in a rundown? Why not. Cue the calls for the designated pickle-defender for pitchers to prevent injuries.
