  1. Through July 31 the Brewers scored 4.35 runs per game. Since then 4.94 runs per game. Team OPS was about .720 before July 31 and about .780 since (didn't have time to run the exact numbers). The offense sucked the first half, no way around it. Since getting Moose and Schoop the offense has been much better. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but it's not like anyone was missing due to injury before. Frankly, I don't think Stearns gave up anyone of great value for either of those two and seemed to fix what has been the crappiest part of the team for the last two years.
  2. It was over the plate. Nothing horrible about an ump actually get one right despite the pitcher missing his spot by the whole plate.
  3. Not really sure how you can be mad at Domingo. He slid back to the bag in plenty of time but the guys foot was in the perfect spot.
  4. Todd Ritchie took a no-hitter pretty late in a game I remember. Jamey Wright sticks out in my mind too for some reason.
  5. That there's 36 players in the locker room or that they don't all fit? A baseball roster is 25 men for the vast majority of the season. Really no reason to make a clubhouse bigger for 4 weeks of the season. I'm sure they've used all the space they realistically can in Wrigley.
  6. Tim Dillard: the new hitting coach! In all honesty, he seems like an absolutely fantastic clubhouse presence. I hope he is brought up to help keep the guys loose and having fun these final few weeks! Seeing as he'll be on Brewers Live and tweeted @FSN I'm guessing he'll be some part of the broadcast team this September. He may even be announcing his retirement to join the TV crew full time. He'd be great to do bits every now and then interviewing fans and going behind the scenes.
  7. Sounds like something the players union would be against because the visitor's clubhouse wouldn't be up to snuff for the second team or something silly like that.
  8. The beanball game was Yost.
  9. For me, this team is more fun and I’ll tell you why I feel that way. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL201108020.shtml This game was the moment when it became obvious to me that Ron lacked the any of the savvy it would take to win a championship. I told my Dad afterwards, it won’t happen this season because Roenicke is not the man for the job. And he solemnly agreed. If we’d had a manager as smart as CC that season it might have been a different story. In any case, while I enjoyed the ride a whole bunch in 2011, deep down I knew we had a problem at the helm that would be our undoing. This year, while our team is far from perfect, I like our chances better than I did at this point in 2011. Not to derail the thread but what was it specifically about this game?
  10. In the SI story about him a couple years ago all he talked about what how hard he wanted to throw. Unfortunately that is pretty much the only thing young pitchers work on anymore. So you end up with guys like him that strikeout 10 per 9, while walking 5 per 9, and having TJ before they can legally drink.
  11. Have the Brewers had an unusual number of off days in the middle of home stands this year? It seems like that had always been a rarity before but I know it's happened a few times this year.
  12. I believe former Brewer Don August still pitches for a team around Milwaukee too.
  13. I've played softball with Jack for several years and also have played against Tim. You must be from around the Appleton area? Actually no, just have played teams in the area the last few years.
  14. On the one hand I agree he should be ROY for being able to do both. But on the other hand, if he's simply above average at both the rest of his career he should be MVP every year because he can do something that no one else in baseball can do. I'm really not sure how you value his skill set when it comes to awards, let alone I can't imagine how to figure out what to pay the on the open market.
  15. Considering the utter disaster some guys who came from Japan or Korea have been, he's not a failure. How successful you feel he's been is totally debatable but he's not a failure by any means.
  16. It makes sense. For years batters were taking pitches just to take pitches, so pitchers decided to throw more over the plate. Now batters are taking advantage of that. Now making a starter throw lots of pitches to get to the bullpen isn't as smart since most relievers have better stuff than most starters. Simply the ebb and flow of baseball.
  17. Yeah if I had to guess I'd say he'd be first off the bench depending on the matchup. If that's the case, just start him. You're not giving him a day off if he's going to play half the game.
  18. So you think Hamels cares more about beating the Cardinals than the Brewers right now? I doubt that but I can't know for sure. I think any time two teams are consistently competing over the course of a few seasons it's a rivalry. During the Yost years I would absolutely say the Cards were our rival, and the players sure acted like it too. What makes a rivalry "real"? Is it ESPN? Just about every Yankees/Red Sox series involves a beanball war or something similar. You can't say that about any two other teams in baseball. Of course the Brewers' players want to beat the Cubs and vice versa. They want to beat whatever team they're playing against. I just don't get the sense that beating the Cubs means anything more than beating anyone else. Other than the fact that they're chasing the Cubs. And based on the Cub's play so far, it seems like they're just ready for the playoffs to start.
  19. I was looking at the standings today and noticed something about the teams with the worst records this year. .295 Bal .333 KC .390 SD .396 Mia .403 Det .403 CWS .424 Cin How many of these teams would you say are "tanking"? Miami and maybe the White Sox is about all I see. The Orioles are just horribly run. The Royals tried to hold on for too long after their World Series and now have a horrible major league team with an equally bad minor league system. The Padres have bounced back and forth between trying to win and trying to build but I would say the Hosmer signing takes them out of tanking territory. The Tigers tried to spend their way to a title for a decade and are paying for it now. The Reds have completed the tank and I would guess will try to get some big league pitching this offseason. Seems like being a horribly run organization has more to do with a bad record than rebuilding...I mean tanking.
  20. Is this a rivalry for the fans? Certainly. But do the players on each team care about beating the other more than other teams? I don't think so. The only real rivalry in baseball is Yankees/Red Sox and to a much lesser extent Cubs/Cardinals and Giants/Dodgers.
  21. Maybe look to the Wade LeBlanc extension as a starting point. Miley is 2 years younger but both are over-30 pitchers who turned their career around with a new team.
