  1. Then we might as well lock this thread and write our rotation in sharpie through the rest of the year and world series.
  2. I don't think Broxton makes the postseason roster. I see the value in the playoffs, but I have this weird feeling that Santana is going to come up in September and force playing time by posting a crazy OPS. His motivation level is going to be through the roof trying to prove himself over that last month. I think Broxton almost has to be on the postseason roster. There is no pinch runner/speed guy without him. You'd be forced to use Perez as that guy most likely which takes away your defensive utility guy. Berry is only in the organization for the speed role but offers nothing else. Broxton gives you the OF defense and at least the possibility of maybe hitting a ball hard. As for Domingo, I think he would really have to do something special to make a postseason roster with a fully healthy outfield. I mean he did nothing in the majors to start the year and really hasn't done anything special hitting on the moon in AAA, I don't think a good few weeks would earn him a playoff spot without being a plus defender or baserunner.
  3. There's the whole waivers issue with trading Keon right now. Maybe he's cleared, maybe he was placed and Cincy claimed him. We don't know. Also, I don't know why the Reds would have much interest in Broxton. I would think a lottery ticket (I frickin hate that term) prospect would be more interesting to them.
  4. Liriano is the third OF, Berry is 4th. Coulter has been playing some 1B and could continue to see some starts there in AAA. I'm sure Berry and Domingo will be coming up when rosters expand so they still need an OF.
  5. A few years into his pro career Doug came into the store I was working at and I helped him with something. When I checked him out I noticed the name Doug Free on his credit card. A co-worker pointed out that it was Doug Free the NFL player. I couldn't believe how not big he was. Now he was certainly bigger than your average human but I would have expected an NFL lineman to be much bigger.
  6. He's no better than what we have now. The only thing he really offers would be the ability to limit Peralta's innings at some point.
  7. I would assume it's because everyone will only play 2 out of the next 3 days to allow for that off day in case of weather.
  8. The players union is opposed due to the extra travel so they would want something in return for this. There is potential for reform if expansion to 32 and realignment ever happens. How would there be any extra travel than there is now? It's not like the NBA where the conferences are East Coast and West Coast.
  9. With interleague play every day that would make so much more sense and a much fairer schedule since everybody plays everybody. Not sure why they haven't gone that way yet.
  10. I can't be the only one who saw the catcher blatantly signaling for the pitch to be way off the plate with a 3 ball count and Arcia still swung at it.
  11. The OF they are running out there now is Santana, Tyrone Taylor, and Quentin Berry. Maybe they wanted to get an OF to help for the playoff push. Clint has to be a better hitter than Berry. He's only a professional baseball player because he can run fast anyway.
  12. Murphy could play 1B (or more likely play 2B and put Shaw at 1B) and send Thames to the bench. If it's a straight waiver claim or costs a nothing minor leaguer it's not a bad move. It would mean they have about 37 infielders for 4 spots but whatever.
  13. Played against Cordier in high school too. Have played against Jack Taschner and Tim Harikkala after their careers were over as they still play amateur ball in Wisconsin.
  14. I seem to remember last year they called up everyone from CS even though they were in the playoffs. The Sky Sox playoff roster was pretty bad with whatever what left over from the other levels that didn't make the playoffs.
  15. I would think this is fairly common in other organizations, particularly in AAA where the difference in pay between that and the next level is enormous (min ~$500K vs. $80K if they have ML experience, maybe less if they don't). Guys who feel like they should get a chance are going to be pissed, especially this late in the year. That being said, we've seen this movie before in the Brewers system particularly since Stearns took over. Not just these guys this year, but given Wren's departure you think that he had to be unhappy and perhaps that came to a head. And then you go back to Cravy, Scahill, the non-callup of Jungmann, and I think one other guy had an issue last year. I have absolutely ZERO proof of this, but there's a fair amount of smoke to suggest that communicating where players stand and what they need to do to get an opportunity is not the strength of the Brewers right now. It's not like the Brewers have a tough staff to crack - they've used 26 pitchers this season, and used 29 last season. I wish I could have heard clearly more of what they were saying but the bolded part was a lot of it. Many of the guys there were not fans of a certain person in the front office, both the new guys to the organization and guys that have been with the Brewers for awhile (I think I know who they were talking about but can't say with 100% certainty who it is and I won't throw a name out there without knowing for sure, but it's not Stearns though). There was a general amount of disgust with the Brewers organization by the players. Barnes was in on the conversation but quite clearly keeping his mouth shut on the subject. It was quite fascinating to eavesdrop in on.
  16. 100% this, the offense has been terrible all year. Every 5 games or so they bust out and you think things will get on track but then they'll score 8 total runs over a week and get some good pitching in a few of those games and win some to stick around .500. He's really bungled some stuff but a lot of those bunglings wouldn't be noticeable if the offense was at least league average.
  17. McCalvy on Twitter. Why wasn't that the right time for Jeffress?
  18. Interesting footnote to the Brady and Davis DL placements. Both were very openly unhappy about it in the bullpen yesterday. Erik's done with Milwaukee and already has his agent making calls to other organizations.
  19. The Brewers have a few guys that can wear catchers gear in AAA. I wouldn't say they have much of any depth though.
  20. The cutter was the vogue pitch about 10 years ago. The Orioles made Arrieta stop throwing it because they thought he would get injured and he sucked. When he was traded to the Cubs they told him to throw it again and he was good. Derek Johnson was probably with the Cubs at that time.
  21. Was at the game today. He looked really bad. Guys in the bullpen (where I was sitting) seemed very annoyed with him. More or less said these aren't rehab starts for him, he's pitching for his job and failing big time.
  22. Id say getting Kyle Hendricks and Carl Edwards for Ryan Dempster, Anthony Rizzo for Andrew Cashner, and Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop for Scott Feldman were ok trades...... Oh and Addison Russell for Jeff Samardzija. You had me until Russell for Samardzija. Not sure which of those two has been worse overall. Both have been below average. I thought Russell was supposed to be the second coming of Alex Rodriguez. Was surprised when he wasn't starting against us in the last series. His offensive numbers aren't good at all. Not Arcia bad but not good, even for a SS.
  23. A phantom rain out would do nothing to actually help the Cubs today. Just make their backlog of games at the end of the year even worse.
  24. Kind of hard for DJ to do anything with a guy in AAA. I'll take swapping Thompson for Asher. Alec isn't even 4A fodder.
  25. This whole thread is supposed to be blue, right?
