  1. He is probably hoping the GM's start paying stupid money again. Next year might be a good time to be a FA because the expected really high contracts fro superstars might push the market higher for mid level FA's. However even if he pitches well next year, there is no guarantee that this new generation of GM's will be any more likely to open the checkbooks next year than they have been this year. Next year could be a cascade effect. Once some owners start seeing their competition spending money on those superstars, they might feel they need to spend themselves to stay competitive.
  2. I had no clue whether he actually knew anything or not, nor did I really care, but I stopped reading the rumor forum for most of January and February as I found him annoying and the amount of posts begging him for information even more so. Thankfully that crap is all over and we can get back to arguing about if Brian Anderson is a bad announcer and how pointless the RBI stat is.
  3. This has to be part of it. Why wouldn't the Twins want him at 2 years/$24M? That's still pretty cheap and if they think he'll have a good 2018 it's not hard to imagine him at least being worth that money in 2019 too. The laws of supply and demand are going to be tested next offseason though. There are going to be a LOT of good players on the market next year, and I just don't see these player issues with free agency going away either. The main change is going to be that they're all 1 year older. Hoping there will be an elaborate article written at some point detailing this offseason and asking guys like Lynn and Moustakas how it all went down. Did they really have zero interest all offseason, or is there more to this story? Even if that does happen you can bet there will be zero truth in it. The players association, players, and agents will continue to push collusion or whatever makes the owners look bad.
  4. So Knebel maybe (probably not) gets hurt on a wet mound so they bring in Dillard because they don't care if he gets hurt. I can't be the only one thinking that.
  5. Isn't Logan on an MLB deal? Even if he isn't I think it would take quite an implosion for him not to make the team.
  6. They're wasting a spot on Jett Bandy right now.
  7. I would guess teams really don't get all that much from the playoffs themselves but make their money the next year in increased ticket and merch sales and charging more for sponsorships.
  8. I don't watch a lot of TV and what I do I can only catch up on when the kid is napping so I'm usually pretty far behind on my shows. Brooklyn Nine-Nine Great show that FOX is doing everything to destroy by randomly giving it multi-month breaks for no reason. When it first started I didn't think it would make a second season but has turned out pretty solid. Last Man on Earth Pretty much everyone who started watching this show has come to hate it, but still watches it. It's so up and down and you never really know what to expect from an episode. It's supposed to be a comedy but there are some episodes with zero comedy and the humor is all over the place from super low brow to intellectual to meta. I can see why people start to hate it because you can't peg the show in any category. Some episodes are slapstick comedy, some are full on depressing drama, some are uplifting human stories, it just covers everything. The Mick Stupid comedy you don't have to think about. LA to Vegas Finally got around to watching it. Pretty solid. Captain Dave is becoming one of my favorite characters of all time. The Detour Really underrated show. Great writing, great characters. Season 2 wasn't great but season 3 stepped it back up. And how can you ignore such great guest starts as Todd Palin and Bret "The Hitman" Hart? Superstore When it debuted, NBC was trying to push it as the new Office. It certainly isn't that but it does sort of have that feel.
  9. What exactly does primary logo mean? This logo was on their hats, helmets, and jerseys for over a decade and up until recently was the logo used for all TV graphics. Even the Sportslogos.net article says the only thing that's changing is it's now listed as the primary logo on their website.
  10. +1 I like the new logo. Leave it for a while. It is simple, clean and it looks nice on just about anything. As much as I like the ball and glove logo, it is also something that can be used from time to time to remember the past but that is about it. The "new" logo has been around for almost 20 years now. They've used it longer than any logo in the team's history.
  11. This Barrelman logo from the YOUniform contest in 2013 should have been implemented into the Brewers uniform in some fashion. This is an excellent combination of the original Barrelman with the current barley. Those Youniforms were the best looking things they've had in years. Worn for two exhibition games never to be heard from again. Barrelman and the original Brewers M, which was just the Braves M in new colors, are the best logos to me. The ball and glove is nice but seems way too dated to me to be used regularly today. Also seems like more of the organization hanging on to their one team that lost a championship. The current M and barely and script logos are just so bland. They seem corporate and safe. I have a soft spot for the green/blue MB logo. Probably because that was the logo when I became a baseball fan. It's not pretty but I think it gets way too much hate.
  12. Got to meet Cappy, Bill Hall, Scott Podsednik, Mike DeJean, and Doug Melvin at one of the Brewers Winter Warmups they used to do. Seemed like a cool guy.
  13. More than I thought prior to you posting that list honestly. There are quite a few of those contracts that provided a ton of early contract value that is going past the mid-point. In my opinion if over half the mega contract ends up good and the later year still give value the contract overall isn't too bad. There are still a lot of scary duds though A lot of those aren't absolutely terrible contracts. However, none of this year's free agents come anywhere close anyone on that list in terms of talent. Hence why no one's getting big, long term deals.
  14. Don't need to trade him but they really don't need him either. Phillips could probably match or outproduce Keon. Or since Keon is basically just going to be a defensive replacement/pinch runner Kyle Wren could probably fit that role. And I'm not so sure Keon has another option. I thought they used his last one last year. And if he does that should increase his trade value a little.
  15. Exactly that. Santana is clearly the better player and would cost more so it's not surprising Keon is getting more interest. This generally isn't the time of year teams are looking to make major trades. Keon is exactly the kind of guy who gets traded in ST.
  16. And that would probably be why Walker and the Brewers haven't reached a deal. I'd bet that the Brewers have offered a fair one year deal, but Walker's camp is holding out for a multi-year contract. I wouldn't have a huge problem with 2, as Keston is probably a mid-2019 callup. Trouble is, who are you competing with for Walker where you even need to offer 2? Ya, so many are already pencilling in Keston as the 2019 2B. That would be great but I doubt it happens. And even if it does they still need depth there. Sign Walker for 2 years and if Keston is ready in 2019 Neil gets 500 PA playing some 2B, 3B, and 1B.
  17. Gross. You can sell me on short starts from guerra and maybe redeption #5 miley but Gallardo actually looks bad. Why are we hell bent on having a milone on the roster. Careers of Gallardo and Millone are vastly different. Far too early in Spring to care about this when you have no idea what he's been working on or how he's "looked" doing what the pitching coaches are asking him to change. The results right now for veterans mean nothing. Well, yes, it was talked about that they're trying some new things with Gallardo but the old things were pretty sucky too. I was actually kind of glad to see that he got pounded today and then saw Counsell's comments. Sorry folks, he's making this team just about no matter what happens.
  18. If Villar isn't the answer I'd rather just give Walker whatever he wants. He'd greatly outhit Harrison and probably cost about the same. Josh's defense and versatility is great and all but there's not much there for offense. Certainly not worth the added salary and giving up Villar who may turn into something again.
  19. Seeing as it was the Royals, I'm sure it was more of a "let's throw this out there and see if he takes it" than a whole hearted offer.
  20. Even if he were to homer every at bat this spring I don't see how he would make the team. He'd be the 5th OF and rarely play.
  21. "It's not part of baseball." "I know that's the new, analytical side, trying to re-invent the wheel...that's just not what MLB is to me." Cole Hamels comments about the Rangers using a 6 man rotation this year. Apparently unaware that the 5 man rotation is a new concept in the grand scheme of baseball.
  22. Relief pitching isn't a fad. Starters are throwing less innings every year and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Someone needs to pitch the last 3-4 innings of a game.
  23. I'm able to watch in FSG on my phone through Spectrum. My only guess is that it's the DBacks broadcast, not the Brewers.
  24. I think that's exactly why Bethancourt was signed to a minor league deal. He certainly isn't going to set the world on fire offensively, but he is a solid all-around defender who is still young enough to theoretically be in his prime. Otherwise, there are always Susac-types out there that are either available via waivers or minor trades. This is more of a long shot, but if the coverage is true and Nottingham has improved defensively, and starts swinging the bat better, he'd be another possibility. At least he has age on his side. I really doubt and hope they don't have Nottingham on the 25 only to have him play 2 games a week.
  25. And who pays for these contracts? Taxpayers who fund the universities? Boosters where the best players will go to whoever has the most money? Students through student fees? This is ridiculous. This all started because the kids want it both ways. They want free school, free food, free healthcare, free housing, etc (which comes to tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of their time there), all while being treated as celebrities at schools that, lets be honest, the vast majority of them would never in a million years be able to get into if they weren’t good at sports. And even if they could get in they’d never be able to afford it. Then on top of all that they want to be paid too. Yes the NCAA makes money. So what. That’s how life works. Companies make money off the backs of their employees. These kids are NOT victims so can we please stop treating them as such. Anyone caught accepting money should immediately lose all eligibility AND be forced to reimburse the schools for their scholarships. . Any coach caught paying players should be banned from coaching at the college level. The reason this is so prevalent is because the rewards far, far outweigh the risks. If the kids don’t like the rules then don’t play in the NCAA. THIS. I'm sick and tired of hearing a bunch of crybabys complaining about not making money. Likely 75% of them or more have never worked a job in their life and spent their days playing AAU etc when not in school. Do we really want a thousand LaVar Balls out there instead of the one we have now? It's time somebody stands up to these namby pambys and tells them to get out if they don't like it the way it is. It's no different than the burger flipper with no education at McDonalds thinking he's entitled to $20/hr so he has a "living wage." No, once you have life and work experience then you get to work your way towards the $20/hr. Everybody whines and moans about Alabama and the big schools getting all the recruits. SO NOW WE WANT BOOSTERS PAYING THEM TO COME? YEAH THAT MAKES TOTAL SENSE! Talk about inequity and the level of play going through the floor. I'm pretty sure most people are upset at the NCAA not the kids The NCAA is the one that preaches about student-athletes and amateurism and all that crap and then turns a blind and let's the schools do whatever they want until they are backed into a corner and are forced to do something about it. Then the NCAA "vacates" wins and championships, which is equal to doing absolutely nothing, and acts like they've fixed the problem while claiming moral superiority again.
