  1. Brinson hit some balls hard. Phillips looked like he was swinging with his eyes closed half of the time.
  2. After taking off for 3rd and being out again.... I think CC said to himself I'm not challenging it for this crap... he was safe, called out, then like a tball kid took off for 3rd. He didn't overslide the base. oh my. He would've been safe at 3B if the ump made the correct call at second. Only reason he was out there was that he stopped running after an emphatic out call by the ump. It was heads up running knowing no one was covering 3B. I don't know if that's why he went for third but after being safe at second he would have been safe at third had he actually ran the whole way there instead of pulling up 20 feet short
  3. He was clearly safe. Counsell just didn't challenge for some reason.
  4. You have an interesting take on "no names". If I didn't do fantasy baseball I would have no idea who Justin Bour is. Charlie Blackmon doesn't even crack the top 20 in homeruns this year. Gary Sanchez is almost certainly there because he's a Yankee and they needed that to get people to watch. It seems like most of their first and second choices said no and this is what's left.
  5. Not that I have any interest in watching a derby ever but they sure loaded up on no names this year.
  6. Then the no challenge makes no sense as he was pretty clearly safe. Right, unless when he transferred hands his first hand came off and he was tagged out after coming off the base. I was watching closely for that and I never saw his hand come off the base and his foot held the base.
  7. Then the no challenge makes no sense as he was pretty clearly safe.
  8. Even if he gets to 3rd and it goes to replay he goes back to 2nd so that part doesn't really matter. Plus he was safe his hand was on the bag before the tag. Not sure why they didn't challenge there. I don't know how exactly the rules work but I'm guessing they didn't challenge because after the call is overturned he's out trying to advance to third.
  9. i agree he certainly was safe and if just stays on the base they go to replay and it's overturned. However he goes full on Carlos Gomez and half asses it to third before getting tagged out.
  10. And Villar cost us a run. I hope there's a nice long seat on the bench for him.
  11. What is it about us and having the dumbest idiot baserunners. Alex Sanches, Gomez, Villar.
  12. God Villar you are such a freakin idiot. Just run to third and deal with the replay later.
  13. That's what he was trying to do. He just couldn't decide where he wanted to go.
  14. I would guess when you're young and it's you're first or second time it's probably fun. But for someone like Braun who's done it a few times, I'm sure he would rather have the days off to recoup and be with his family.
  15. It's both first half performance and name recognition based. Fans vote for players they want to see and the league wants players with name recognition in the game. Cal Ripken probably shouldn't have been an All Star past 30, yet he made the team every year till he retired. Bryant plays for the Cubs and the league would prefer to have him in the game than some random dude named Travis Shaw from Milwaukee. It is what it is but really, it's a pointless game that very few people care about and gives the sports talking heads something to blather about because there is little other sports news happening this time of year.
  16. True, but beside the point. I was talking about what sample size we should base their performance on. There is nothing that says at least the last year's worth of performance shouldn't count. It's how we measure everything else in baseball. We don't have a first half MVP. We don't take the first half winners and second half winners. So why should we choose all stars based on one half on one season? It's simply because some people believe how well a player starts the season should be the only determining factor. Obviously plenty of people feel differently or Bryant wouldn't have a shot at it while Shaw doesn't. It's fine to believe only this season should count when you vote but that doesn't mean people who take more into consideration are wrong. There Is at least as much reason to take more into consideration than a player having a hot start to a season than not Personally I think there is more reason to take more into account than not. So why not just pick the All Stars at the beginning of the year based on the highest WAR the previous 3 years? The All Star game is for players fans like and to reward players that had good first halfs. You're putting way too much thought into what an All Star should be. By your thinking our All Star should be Braun because he's the best player on the team and has been for a few years. But he's been no where near our best player this year and in no way should he be an All Star this year.
  17. What? How in the world can anyone describe Lucroy as 'greedy'?? I wouldn't say he was greedy but the fact that he blocked the trade to Cleveland because he was going to split time at C this year (while still being an everyday player at C, 1B and DH) and thought that would somehow lose him money in free agency was stupid. Everyone knows you're a #1 catcher (although stats say otherwise this year), saving a half season of wear and tear on your 30+ year old body while still hitting everyday would have been great for him.
  18. I think Suter's stuff is going to work very well against certain teams. If you have a work the count, swing for the fences team he'll probably do well since they'll take that first pitch strike and be down 0-1 and then they'll start swinging from their shoes because, hey, he throws really slow so watch how far I can hit this ball. On the other hand if he goes up against a high AVG, contact oriented team I think they'll hit him around pretty good because he throws so many strikes.
  19. Not going to say that Suter is going to be great or ever good but if you throw strikes you get outs. Especially if you have stuff like him and are throwing pitches 10 MPH slower than what batters are used to seeing.
  20. Mark Reynolds is not deserving. Also, a note to add: DJ LeMahieu is going to push some of the more hilarious players in the history of sports that lucked into incredible riches. Guy should be fighting for a spot in the majors right now and probably will amass $50-$100 million and 4 or 5 All-Star selections (if he stays in Colorado) in his career depending how stupid teams are when he becomes a free agent. A .750 career OPS for DJ is nothing special and he's only hit double digit homeruns once in his career despite playing at Coors. Outside of a BA that jumped 50 points last year and in turn added 50 points to his OBP I don't even see a smokescreen that makes him look like a really good player.
  21. It's ESPN. Who cares? They think there are sports teams in only New York, Boston, LA, and Chicago. They probably had Stephen A Smith gives his thoughts on the All Star team and weaved in some NFL coverage too.
  22. Um, no. 6th among NL SS in OPS. 5th in AVG. 8th in HR. 10th in RBI.
  23. Lucroy has been crap this year offensively and defensively (for his standards). Factor in him being a free agent and almost certainly testing the market and the Rangers are getting peanuts back for him.
