  1. The Nats are doing us no favors losing to the Cubs and Cards. And getting hosed tonight on a strike 3 to end the game.
  2. He never made it to the minors. The outfielder they called up get hurt in his first game and Carter got called back.
  3. Haven't seen the video but managers Dave Roberts and Andy Green started a bench clearer.
  4. When it comes to baserunning brainfarts with Villar, i think it's just an instincts or low baseball IQ issue. Some players for whatever reason are naturally smart baserunners, when to use their speed to take extra bases and when not to take the risk. They consistently understand game situations at a given time. Villar is the opposite. The wheels in his brain aren't processing these things as smart baserunners do. So say there is nobody out and Thames/Braun are do up next, the smart baserunner naturally thinks it's not worth the risk to try stretching out a double into a triple if it's likely going to be a close play at third. Villar on the flip side gets lost in the moment and takes the overly aggressive approach. Same for to often trying to steal third. His mind just sees hey, i think i can steal a base here. The smarter baserunner thinks, hey maybe i could steal third here, but with two outs and Braun at the plate down a run, the risk/reward ratio just isn't worth it. I'm in your camp in wanting to see him play because last year showed that Villar has rare leadoff talent. He hit for average, home run/doubles power, and drew lots of walks, but odds are pretty good in mu view that those frustrating brainfarts on the bases and sometimes defensively will always be a part of the package when it comes to Villar. It's in his baseball DNA, similar to Carlos Gomez. Lots of talent, but to often questionable decision making. Instincts are what happens in the split second, whether to turn a double into a triple for example. Stealing third takes forethought. The fact that he keeps doing it even after benchings because of it means he's either a total idiot who can't remember simple things or he doesn't care.
  5. Aguilar was waiver wire fodder a few months ago. 150 PA aren't going to change that too much.
  6. Seriously, just watch this to learn everything you wanted to know about making toast.
  7. How exactly does Lopez deserve a start? He has trouble at AA and is even worse when he pitches in AAA. If anyone deserved a spot it was Wilkerson. Not sure how any of those guys deserves a start.
  8. Given those players I'm not sure who should leadoff. Braun, Santana, and Shaw should be in the middle and the rest at the bottom.
  9. Watch the episode of Going Deep about how to make toast. It will teach you everything you need to know about how to make toast.
  10. I'd be disappointed and upset about them losing to crappy teams whether they were in first or last. I just want to see them play well.
  11. Why can't we have nice things? Like wins over teams that are worse than us.
  12. So when are the invitations to the Schroeder/Vogt wedding going out? Rock just can't stop gushing about him.
  13. Pitchers are so brittle these days. Im sure we could all day as to why, but regardless, its time for the DH. 13 man pitching staffs and guys getting hurt just swinging the bat or running to first base is not good for the game. The percentage of position players that get hurt simply swinging a bat or taking a step out of the box is incredibly low compared to pitchers. The rules aren't the problem, it's the pitchers.
  14. Those trade offers are grossly overvaluing Verlander if the Brewers are taking on his whole contract. Like others have said he's only been good 1 of the last 4 years, is owed a lot of money, and is very much on the downslope of his career. If the Brewers are paying the whole thing I'm only giving up one of these Stearns lottery ticket type prospects and some random throw in nobody minor leaguer.
  15. I for one am pleasantly surprised that Villar wasn't just stuck back in the starting lineup. Seems like the sort of thing our managers over the last decade or so would have done.
  16. So do we drop Vogt and pick up Montero? He's clearly the better hitter and picking up Vogt shows that Stearns really doesn't care about his defense.
  17. BA always talks about changing the strike zone but as it's been pointed out to me that rule was never approved.
  18. That's the thing though, that's not really true anymore. An average reliever is putting up the numbers of a top of the rotation starter. Just scouring the pitching leaderboards here is where the first starting pitcher falls in these categories. ERA+: Kuechel 28th FIP: Sale 31st K/9: Salazar 28th Those 3 were the easiest to sort through getting rid of guys who've only thrown a couple innings but every rate pitching stat leaderboard I looked at is dominated by relievers. And I understand it's because they only pitch an inning at a time but that doesn't really matter. All that matters is the results and the results show that the way they are used, relievers are better at getting outs than starters are. So unless you're Scherzer or Kershaw, you should be pitching less innings at a time to be more effective.
  19. At 1B, OF, and SP so neither of those guys really help. Castro has been pretty good at 2B this year and Gregorious is good enough at SS. I'm sure they would love to get Shaw but trading him would pretty much end any chance of making the playoffs and I don't think the Yankees have anyone that would be worth him other than Torres and he's going no where.
  20. What happens when the SP doesn't pitch well and you lose 8-1? Now you wasted your late inning relievers in a blow-out. Plus, the late inning guys can only pitch so many times in a week. So for the other games you're relying on the worst pitchers on the roster to start games. Not really. Like I said, you're using your pitchers the same way you were before just changing which innings they're pitching. And when you're starter gets blown up starting a game it ruins your bullpen too. No matter how you plan to use your pitchers it's not going to work every time and adjustments are going to be made.
