  1. If we don't want to mess with the whole "rotation" idea and whatnot why not start the game with your relievers and bring in your starter after the pitchers spot comes up. The Brewers bullpen kind of sucks right now so I don't see this as a good idea with the current team but if you were to have some above average relievers I think it's sound strategy. For example, your "8th inning" guy starts and throws the first inning facing the opponents best hitters. Your "7th inning" guy pitches the second inning and faces the (in theory) 2nd tier hitters. Typically your pitchers spot should be up in the second or third innings and you pinch hit, then put your starter in. Your starter gets the bottom of the order to get going and then the top of the order sees a different pitcher their next time up. Let your starter go as long as you typically would and then have your bullpen pitch the last inning or two. Obviously there are drawbacks but really this would be using your pitchers in no different way than they already are, you're just switching around which innings they're pitching.
  2. Was watching the Cubs/Nats game on ESPN gamecast. They showed a pitch called a strike well below the strikezone. I went over the MLB Gameday and they showed the same pitch well within the strikezone.
  3. As long as the other runner is safe, it's a SB. If one of the runners is caught then the other runner advances on the throw. I don't know about Shaw but Villar is the only guy who hits in front of him that would be stealing 3B, and he's hardly gotten on this year, so I doubt that any of those steals were on double steals.
  4. After what we've seen the last few years, how can anyone still think "we can just move anyone to 1B"?
  5. Ya, he probably wins the award because this team was supposed to be bottom 5 in the league but is he really doing anything that has made the team win? I don't see him doing anything different with player usage than any other manager would do. Stearns is clearly the GM of the Year though. Sogard, Thames, Shaw, and Aguilar have turned out to be brilliant moves. Feliz not so much though.
  6. If we make the playoffs, is this the most improbable playoff team ever?
  7. The only positives I've read about Vogt are his two All Star appearances (and neither of those seasons were anything special) and his "clubhouse presence". His defense is atrocious just like his hitting so far thus year. I'll give you he may be an upgrade over Bandy offensively but probably so would any of our AAA catchers. For reference both Vogt and Susac have a career 99 OPS+. I guess Vogt being a LHB makes his more appealing but about $2M more appealing? Not to me.
  8. I am sure they could. Jean Segura had that value despite 2.5 years of terrible performance and only a half season of stardom. Jonathan Villar has had success before coming here and was an offensive force all of last year. Personally I would expect more than what we got for Segura. Dave Stewart isn't a GM anymore so I doubt more than Segura would be possible right now. If Villar could play a passable 3B maybe you could get a similar trade out of Dave D in Boston since his goal since he was hired has been to trade every minor leaguer in their system for marginal veteran upgrades.
  9. Does Stearns manage all these moves or does someone else? I can't imagine David has the time to keep track of over 100 minor leaguers and who should be moving up or down, outside of the top prospects.
  10. I always assumed that was Warren Zevon. The vocals sound like him.
  11. You never know what you'll get with a knuckballer. They're either lights out or get rocked.
  12. I disagree. That was not a difficult play. And in that situation they are going to go for the out at third. Thames knows he is not fast and that was not smart base running. And I'm going to disagree with you. Swanson was going up the middle away from third base. Almost never is a SS going to make that throw to 3B when there's an easy out at 1B.
  13. He was certainly out but not clearly out. And it's up the umpires now, Craig can't challenge he can only ask them to look at it.
  14. Ball was hit behind him. 9 times out of 10 the SS goes to 1B. Can't really blame Thames for a great play.
  15. Well Freeman was terrible last year but not so terrible this year.
  16. Yes and no. Why this franchise continues to act like that team was special, I have no idea. Like, I get it the franchise has sucked and that team made it the furthest but in the end, you're celebrating a loser. Is the franchise going to have a David Freese Day in 2031 to celebrate 20 years since he owned us in the NLCS? My comment was in jest.
  17. Bad news: Brewers look like crap at the plate. Good news: Foltisdjfkjsnfkjns is over 100 pitches through 5 innings.
  18. Anyone know anything about this 1982 team? Were they any good? Did they do anything special?
  19. I haven't seen Gameday but that looked good to me. The foul tip on Pina on the other hand. Not so much.
  20. This would just about be the worst time to trade Villar.
  21. I'm not sure how much you can take from this considering how close all those teams are and there is basically no context to the ball being hit. Not saying our OF defense is good or bad but those numbers don't really show anything of substance to me.
  22. A great idea with subpar execution. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it but it could have been so much better.
  23. It was really tough to tell on replay. It looked like the ball hit off the top of the scoreboard, not the padding. So bouncing that far is reasonable.
  24. Pass. Vogt is atrocious defensively and is nothing special as a hitter.
