  1. For crying out loud villar. I don't know how anyone can defend his baserunning no matter how good of a hitter he is.
  2. "Placating fans"?? It's the entertainment business. It's all about getting fans to buy tickets. If that's placating them, so be it. Exposure to the big leagues is part of the development process. Top prospects need to face major league competition to reach their potential and learn where they need work. Arcia is up. Other than maybe Phillips there are no more prospects that the average fan will really know let alone care about.
  3. Since he doesn't live in Milwaukee and lives on the west coast I'm sure he'd love to be traded there. Probably even more so now with two kids there.
  4. Well it's because of his religion and his religion ONLY that he is an absolute media darling. I realize this is more the media's fault and not Tim's but please answer me this DocLuna 7... Why should Tebow get to ride the Son of God's coat tails while everyone else has to actually perform on the field in order to even get a 10th of the attention this guy gets? He was somewhat of a failure in the NFL but didn't he QB a playoff team, win a playoff game, and win a national championship in college? Seems like he performed at a relatively high level to me.
  5. Stearns has said many times it's not a good idea to put a time frame on the rebuild, and I agree with him. Cover your butt.... That's all the DS statement means to me. If we're really bad in four years, his butt is covered, right? No, no.... We need to see gradual change for the better at the MLB level. If not starting in 2017, surely in 2018. No what he means is that he's not just looking for guys in the high minors who will be in Milwaukee quickly after their acquired. Hence why he's gotten guys from across all levels of the minors. Heck the Lucroy trade went from low minors "nobody" prospects from Cleveland to upper minors "big time" prospects from Texas.
  6. It's only been in the past few years that they've actually purchased them though.
  7. Um, why? I guess the .900+ AAA OPS is nice. Will Colorado Springs make the playoffs and they'll need another catcher after Milwaukee takes one of theirs for September?
  8. I've never understood this either. Seems like it makes perfect sense for a team to control the destiny of their minor league affiliates, especially a team like the Brewers where it's essential to develop their own talent. Is it just a case of "this is the way it's always been done?" I mean, even if they broke even or lost a little money it would be worth it. I wish I could remember exactly what he said but Bill Veeck wrote about this in his book because for a time major league teams did own their minor league teams.
  9. The Angel's will not be trading Trout. There is no team in baseball that will be willing to pay the amount that the Angels will be asking for. For example the Red Sox would have to give up Benintendi, Moncada, plus more for Trout. Do you really think a team is going to pay that much in prospects for Trout? There is no way the Angels will get enough value in trading Trout so they are stuck with him or they can take a lesser deal than what Trout is worth. You can bet Dembroski has certainly though about it. Boston has a plethora of prospects and young major leaguers they could trade and not kill their organization. Betts, Moncada, Bradley, and Benintendi for Trout. How can the Angels say no to that.
  10. Handball coach said Lebron would be best handball player in the world inside of 6 months. I'd take the under on that. I mean there's an NFL guy on the Olympic rugby team....I bet there are a ton of dudes that play in the D league that would be incredible at team handball. The NFL dude was a rugby player before his played football so it's not exactly the same situation.
  11. I'm sure it's just because Loria knows he can make money off of Arod but I don't see how an injured outfielder makes him a fit for the Marlins.
  12. [sarcasm]Trout[/sarcasm] Is there an organization in a worse position than them right now? Mediocre major league talent, high paid declining veterans, no minor league prospects what so ever. They need to trade Trout if they want to have any hope of having a respectable team for the next 5-10 years.
  13. My in-laws are rather boring to point it bluntly. It's always uncomfortable when I'm left alone with them because it's usually silence between us until someone starts awkward small talk. My father-in-law generally will try to talk about baseball with me even though he really doesn't know much about it. Today he was asking me if the Brewers got any players that can help in the trades they made. I said probably but not for a couple years. He then asked if the Brewers had gotten any good players from the Timber Rattlers since they became affiliated. I said I think a couple on the team played there but they should have some good ones coming through soon. I assumed he knew how the minor leagues worked until he asked me if the Brewers had any other teams than the Timber Rattlers. I then sort of tried to explain how the minor leagues worked to him but I don't think he got it. I guess that's better than when his brother and sister try to talk to me about baseball and they just complain about how all the Brewers ever do is trade away their best players for crap to save money.
  14. He got beaned in the face in 2014 and beaned in the hand in 2015. Not sure how you can blame him for those. It's not like he's getting pulls and strains.
  15. I cringe every time I see comments like this one. It has been said hundreds of times on this site, probably by hundreds of different people, but I completely disagree with it. I often wonder if those making this statement have ever coached the sport on a level past t-ball. Even a little league coach/manager makes several decisions per game that 100% effect the outcome of a game. High school, same thing. Yes, the players play the game, but the manager makes a lot of decisions, often in the heat of the moment, just like a football coach, that dramatically effect the outcome, which in turn has a profound effect on wins and losses. You can say that about baseball managers because in every other sport the head coach has their own scheme or philosophy that has a direct impact on how your team plays the game. There's an obvious difference between a Chip Kelly coached football team and one coached by Mike McCarthy. Sure, some managers bunt or steal a little more and some play their veteran players more but for the most part every manager manages the game the same way. The major difference in their relationships with the players. I've coached high school for 8 years and been a head coach for 5. I don't bunt very often and really only steal with guys who can do it because I believe in letting the players play the game. I feel the most important part of my job (other than teaching the game) is to build and maintain strong relationships with my players. I've played for and coached with lots of coaches who seem to think their only job is to give signs and dictate how the game should be played. I've never liked those types of coaches.
  16. Sure his stolen base totals will look good but he's still getting thrown out too. He leads the league in caught stealing right now. And if it's all about boosting his numbers for contract negotiations, when his agent says look at all the stolen bases the team will counter with look at all the times you got thrown out and took yourself out of scoring position and hurt the team.
  17. Exactly. The only thing Counsell really has going against his right now is that David didn't hire him. Which is why I think next year is what will really determine his fate. Does Stearns trust him to win with the players he brought in or will he bring in his own guy. I also think it will be interesting to see what happens with Matt Erickson. He was praised by the Melvin regime and Stearns did the same a couple weeks ago. Before Ron was fired I felt Matt was next in line to manage or at least be moved up to Milwaukee to be the next next in line. If any big league coaches aren't brought back next year (please lord let Ed get a pink slip) and Matt is brought up to replace them I think that might be a sign of him being considered as an eventual replacement. Especially since he would have had a hand in developing the next wave of talent.
  18. Come on now. The whole untuckem thing was Mike Cameron. [sarcasm]Stop being ridiculous.[/sarcasm]
  19. I think you need should probably reconsider your opinion on this topic. It's not about comfort or any other silly emotional zone, it's about players putting themselves into a position to succeed, and the easiest way to do that is to simplify and get back to the fundamental basics. CC wasn't a talented hitter: he wasn't strong, wasn't above average athletically, didn't have exceptional hand/eye coordination, so in effect he did everything he could as a player to limit his offensive potential with that rubber band stance. Maybe he learned from his experience, maybe he didn't, but that's not the type of player who typically is good a teacher of the game, those are generally players who were adaptable and got the most out their talent, I never saw that from CC as a player. At the opposite end of the spectrum great players are rarely good coaches because everything came so naturally to them that they aren't able to explain to others how to do what they did... simply because they just reacted and things always worked out for them. I absolutely do not see baseball, or sports in general, the same way the majority of people do, I have much different perspective and see things that others simply don't care about. It's fine if you don't view CC the same way I do, or the Brewers, or baseball, I expect that as it has been the norm on this site for a long time. I don't watch as a fan, I'm not able to do that anymore even though sometimes I wish I could, I watch as a coach, and when you do that you see the game in a much deeper way which is difficult to explain. I have no idea how to qualify of lifetime of experience and distill it down to meaningful rebuttal of a petty attack. I would like to say it should be beneath you as person, but I don't know you, so playing the internet tough guy might well be the only contribution you'll make. Well he's the manager, not a coach. I'm sure he does a fair bit of coaching but his job is about making decisions about how to put/use players in positions they can succeed. The teaching of the game should have happened well before Milwaukee in the minors.
  20. Of course he will be back next year. The team is crappy this year, that's not Craig's fault. We may not like who how he's giving out playing time but Stearns has turned over the roster so much in his short time here I doubt he's letting Craig do whatever he wants and probably has his ear about who should be playing. Having said that, I think next year is when he's managing for his job (I also think it's contract year for him). 2018 should at least be a return to credibility and Stearns may want to bring in his own guy for that. From my personal TV watching perspective I feel like he's taken a step back as a manager. His decision making about pulling starters has been downright confusing this year and the sudden increase in players swinging on 3-0 is baffling. Last year in the dugout it looked like he brought energy and a real sense of "being into" the game. This year he's turned into Grandpa Ken with his ho-hum and general appearance of being disinterested in the game. Especially evidenced by his lackluster attempt to get thrown out last night no doubt hoping to "fire up" his team. That was almost embarrassing to watch as the ump didn't even buy into it. Of course we hate every Brewer manager though.
  21. Yeah, just to be clear, the Red Wings are in New York. Teams can re-up with current affiliates at any time. But new affiliations will happen during September. It's too early right now. I knew that the Twins had been with Rochester for a while so I always assumed it was Rochester, MN. Also the Red Wings name would have pointed to that.
  22. I thought new deals couldn't be signed until the offseason. Meaning any announcement would be about extending a current affiliation. thats not true, the brewers announced affiliation with the sky sox on September 18th, 2014. It would make sense though for it to be just a renewel with the astros. Either way this is still in-season for the minor leagues.
  23. Why not? As long as it isn't a Brewers uniform, I don't care where he lands. Like others have mentioned though, I'd love to see him in a Cards uniform. Because I like Carlos and I cannot stand the Cardinals. Why would I want to see the two mix? I'd rather he go to another team and figure himself out. Carlos isn't going to change if he goes to St. Louis and they will praise him for the same things they hated him for in Milwaukee. Or him and Yadi will throw fists in the dugout.
  24. Nice half-hearted effort by Craig to get tossed. The home plate umpire knew why he was out there and didn't have time for his shenanigans.
