  1. Which we're seeing all the time on these plays at the plate. If you keep your front foot down and try to touch the plate you risk catching a cleat on the edge or it digging into the ground and destroying your ankle.
  2. I've never completely understood the hate on Sedar but I get it now.
  3. Corey needs to forget about playing and just replace Rock in the booth.
  4. Typical Brewer game where they beat an ace but will be dominated by every journey soft tosser and no name rookie they face.
  5. I coached up in Superior for many years, I know your pain. The realistic approach is to start later in the spring and end in the summer. That way the weather has turned for the better and games aren't all piled up. I'm coaching in Iowa now. We have summer high school ball. We play 40 games (max). We start end of May and finish at the end of July depending how your playoff run goes. I've suggested this to our AD a couple times and he says he would be for it but the coaches that are public school teachers wouldn't be because they don't want the season to go any further past the end of their school year. I'd like them to add two weeks to the season but start at the same time. Right now we get a week and a half or two before our first game. That is no where near enough to get ready especially when there's a good chance you'll never even get a practice outside before that first game. As for the rules, I'd like to know if there were any studies of just Wisconsin pitchers. There's no year round baseball here and let's be honest almost no pitchers are good enough to go pro and very few will even play after high school so I really doubt that there are that many injuries here that this needs to be an issue. And it's totally dependent on the pitcher and how the game goes. If you've got a guy throwing upper 80's with hard breaking stuff his 100 pitches are going to be a lot more stressful than a kid lobbing 60 MPH strikes with some junk balls. I just looked at my JV pitchers' pitchers per inning from the last two years. They were 19.2 and 21.4. Meaning I'm only getting 4 or 5 innings out of my pitchers next year. That would have been fine this year as I had some depth and generally split games between two pitchers with 4 and 3 innings each but I can't expect that every year.
  6. And how long before the posters show up saying he's too short and doesn't throw hard enough to be successful? Ya, he's probably pitching over his head right now but it gets annoying when people knock him only because of his size and "lack of velocity." Keep the ball down, change speed, and hit the corners. Do that and all that other stuff is pretty much irrelevant.
  7. Catchers are tricky to value. They break down fast and get hurt often. And aside from the very best, they are all mediocre to bad hitters and when you're at the plate the game of baseball doesn't care how good of a hitter you are relative to your position only how good of a hitter you actually are. I've always been of the mindset that you churn em and burn em. Start them 150 games a year and let them walk when they hit free agency and do the same with the next guy.
  8. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/preps/wiaa-passes-new-rules-regarding-baseball-pitch-counts-b99749598z1-384159151.html I understand and will totally get behind rules to protect pitchers health but this goes too far and will do nothing but hurt small schools and will essentially turn some JV games into a total joke. My biggest issue is the 100 pitches in a game limit. At the small school where I coach each school in the conference really only has two pitchers and then two or three guys who can at least throw it over the plate half the time. We play two or three games a week, sometimes four because of weather. With the 100 pitch limit they've basically eliminated a complete game. You now are either going to have to use one of your questionable pitchers or your other actual pitcher to finish a game taking away innings or a start from him. I think back to this past season I had a Friday JV game and talking with the other coach before the game and after 3 games that week we both were down to our last pitcher of the week and if he couldn't go the whole game it was pretty much pulling names out of a hat. Both of our guys went all 7, his threw 157 pitchers (probably too much) and mine 115. If we were playing under these new rules his guy goes maybe 4 innings and mine 6 and the game turns into watching batters take 4 balls and then walk to first. Like I said before, I totally support protecting pitcher's health but in my 9 years of coaching I've had three pitchers with arm injuries. Two got hurt during football and the other hurt himself during his first college baseball practice after not picking up a baseball for 6 months. For your D1 or D2 schools this isn't going to make much of a difference but for everyone else this is going to make the game worse.
  9. Sounds like a Keon Broxton kind of game.
  10. Carptener has been playing a lot of first base since Peralta came back, with Moss in the outfield. If Wong is going to stick in CF then the question for them is if Hill is an upgrade over Adams.
  11. None of that should be undervalued. Those are the most important parts of the game and are often the difference between a win and a loss.
  12. The sellers know they're never going to sell their house, right?
  13. This. He was hated here from the moment he signed. Which was somewhat understandable considering how the Lohse, Wolf, and Suppan signings worked out. Even though Garza's first year was pretty good and in some ways better than his career averages, many were still sour on him. Then he lays a brick last year and a journalist sensationalizes a story and just about everyone here thinks he's the worst pitcher ever and no one will ever want him.
  14. I didn't want to wade into it either but...what he said he was neither. I'll give you it was poorly worded though. Briggs is much older than most of here and like people of that age they're not as aware of how easily offended people can be these days and how carefully you must chose your words. Like the word Mexican. Referring to someone from Mexico as "Mexican" is going to be seen as offensive to some people regardless of the context or intent.
  15. Walgreens parking lots are the worst in my opinion. I have been a passenger in 3 separate accidents all in separate parking lots. I get that their thing is to be in a corner lot, but I can't understand the reasoning of some of their lots. That's funny I came here to post that I had to stop at Walgreens today and someone decided to park their car in the middle of the lot while waiting for someone inside. There was no way I could get around them.
  16. The Mets pitching discussion reminds me of something a wise friend of mine once said (although it was about defense, not pitching) - It doesn't matter how good your pitching is if you can't score runs. The Mets would be foolish not to trade one of their starters for a legitimate offensive upgrade. That hitter helps the team everyday, one starter helps once every five days. Harvey, deGrom, and Wheeler have all already had TJ, most likely one of those guys is on borrowed time. With the organization's current financial situation none of these guys are resigning and given their collective health history it's probably not a good idea to do so anyway. And in recent history, having a dominant starting rotation has really meant nothing in terms of winning a championship. I really have no opinion on a trade with the Brewers but the Mets really need to do something about that offense if they want any chance this year and trading a starter will get them the best return.
  17. Parking lots generally lead to the worst behavior of society. Unless it's freezing out I try to park away from cars to avoid the aforementioned issues.
  18. With his age and not front of the rotation stuff it doesn't really make sense to extend him. He's in pretty much the same situation as Fiers was.
  19. Obviously this team wasn't built to contend this year and quite honestly the shellacking of the first month were what most were expecting the whole year. However, they've played very well since and even though they are losing rarely do they get blown out and look totally overmatched. Having said that it's really frustrating to watch them piss away games like they did in this series. Easily could have taken 3 of 4 instead of losing 3 of 4.
  20. Rock rarely says anything intelligent but how can he and everyone watching the game know that throwing Turner a breaking ball is bad news but yet the Brewers pitchers keep doing it.
  21. Damn it Turner. I don't care that you're killing the Brewers, where was this the last two months when my fantasy team needed you!?
  22. You can blame me for Turner killing us this series. I dropped him from my fantasy team a couple days before the Brewers series because he's been terrible this year and now he's been red hot since.
  23. I don't know what you do with him but I don't how you can keep trotting him out there when he's so clearly over his head right now for whatever reason. His .384 OPS is lower than Walsh's was when he was DFA'd. He's struck out in just under half of his PA's. For me it's not even the stats, just watch him. I honestly felt bad for him last night he looked so terrible. If he were a big time prospect I think you let him figure it out but he's not.
  24. Glad I went to bed after the top of the 10th. I understand the thinking of walking the bases loaded but I just don't see that much of a benefit to do so. This game falls on the offense like so many the last few years. So many opportunities to score runs and so many fails.
