  1. I agree with this sentiment, and feel this is a bit of a mountain being made of a mole hill. But, part of the business of a baseball team is attracting players. And if this contributes to players in general feeling in any small way like the Brewers don't treat their players right, I'd argue it wasn't worth whatever tiny amount of money was saved or hitless at bats were gained. It's tough enough to attract players to Milwaukee, no need to add to that challenge. Any player that can choose to play for Milwaukee will almost certainly be out of options (free agent) or just happy to be in the majors (Wilkins) so this situation is really irrelevant to that.
  2. I had to cancel a game for the summer baseball team that I run because I had to reschedule a league game on that same date. The game is 3 weeks away and I've been trying to find another team to play for us. The manager of the other team was not friendly to me when I told him and more or less said this will prevent us from working together in the future. Earlier this summer I bent over backwards for him to get him in a tournament. As anyone who organizes and manages things know, maintaining good working relationships is crucial. I have always went out of my way to be over accommodating to other teams and been flexible with scheduling and to get treated like this really burns me. Ya, I understand it sucks for you but to treat me like crap over it is childish.
  3. Happy with Villar too overall ..... Just clean up the simple, selfish, little league mistake of taking 3rd with two out! The other with him is getting chucked at 3rd on a routine grounder to short. Aren't those the same things Gomez did that he hasn't changed?
  4. Jeez I turn the game back on to see two pitches and two run scoring hits by the Cardinals. Just hate that freaking team.
  5. Well their management generally doesn't have a clue about what they're doing so I suppose they're an option.
  6. Looked good on TV. Braun just wasn't looking for that pitch. It was a full count so he started walking to first hoping he would get the call and he didn't.
  7. I'm pretty sure the only people making a big deal out of this are Boras and a couple posters here. Every player understands what happened. Doesn't mean they like it but they get it and know this how the current system is set up. And if Zach holds some grudge against the Brewers the rest of his life and refuses to ever sign a contract here because of it he's a petty little turd.
  8. I don't think it's that they don't have a plan it's just that the guy running the ship doesn't have a clue of how to value players and prospects nor any sort of post 1980's baseball knowledge and some how Tony La Russa supports it. As much as I hate the man I at least thought he was somewhat forward thinking in terms of stats and using young players.
  9. I don't know if I would say he's been outstanding. He's gotten very good results but he's like Dan Kolb in that he walks a fine line every time he pitches because he's not a strike out pitcher. I've had him on my fantasy team this year and he's pretty much guaranteed to give up 2 hits an inning. Sure he'll get you a double play in there and get out of it but he does give up a lot of hits. What this and the Hill trade really means is that Boston is going to do whatever it can to win this year. Like I posted in the Lucroy trade thread, Dembrowski doesn't care about prospects. All those prospects people are saying they will never trade are in play and some will be moved.
  10. I don't understand the "don't make the 1st or 3rd out where ever" theory. How about, don't make an out anywhere ever? As for stealing 3rd I just don't see that big of an advantage of being on 3B versus 2B in the majors especially with 2 outs. At 3B you're only scoring on a WP, PB, or E that you wouldn't score on at 2B and those aren't very common in MLB. To me it's not worth the risk no matter who the baserunner is.
  11. Smith isn't a LOOGY but he's not good enough against RHB to just bring him in any time.
  12. I would have no problem if they just put him on via beaning every time he came up. I hate the ump spitting thug.
  13. ummm, Cecil Cooper says hello... Before my time, therefore never happened.
  14. I refuse to cheer for any Brewer than wears #15. That's Ben Sheet's number and always will be.
  15. Amen to that . Respect the players who are performing on the field at a high level. Davies is. When you don't, it's noticed by everyone else. Stearns was never a player. In this case he needs to understand how players think. I'm sure the players are thinking, "Well, that sucks for Davies but he was a waste of a roster spot for the next week and now we don't have to rely on Yadiel Rivera or Martin Maldonado to pinch hit late in games."
  16. Who exactly is Garza blocking this year? Jungmann? Honestly everyone should be happy Garza is still in the rotation. The "hope he gets better so we can trade him" crowd and the "I want the team to lose crowd".
  17. Even though this move has absolutely nothing to do with money someone earlier nailed it. There's not loyalty anymore. Davies will go where ever the money is when he hits free agency whether he got an extra $24,000 this year or not. Let's say this move didn't happen. When Davies is a free agent and the Brewers come to him and say, "Remember that time we were going to send you down for no reason and cost you $24,000 but didn't? Well please accept this offer that is $1M per year less than your best offer because we treated you so well." Ya, not gonna happen. The Brewers are playing within the rules and Boras is upset. The sun rose this morning too but that didn't make the news. If the players don't like it they need to get it changed in the next CBA otherwise this is what they agreed to.
  18. I've posted before that young starting pitching isn't all that much of a concern to me because it's such a crap shoot between injuries and guys just not developing. Take a look at the Mets supposedly amazing rotation. Harvey is out for the year, Matz and Syndergaard are both pitching with bone spurs that could pretty much end their season at any moment, and Wheeler has had setbacks in him TJ recovery. de Grom is the only healthy guy left in the rotation and he's one of the 4 that has already had TJ. If Milwaukee can get a great pitching prospect via trade or the draft, great and good luck to him. Otherwise I have no problem with them loading up on offense as long they get well rounded players and don't take the Melvin/Z strategy of getting guys that can hit the ball far and have no defensive ability.
  19. Chris Young had it and is now better than ever. Wainwright or Carpenter had it. I remember a couple guys who've had it that it seemed to end their career but it certainly doesn't seem like much more of a career killer than TJ.
