  1. Teagarden was caught talking about taking PED's on video. Everyone else was named by the guy. Two different situations.
  2. What really has been lost since last season? Adam Lind is about it. The offense still has some boppers if Davis, Lucroy, and Braun are still around come opening day. The starting pitching isn't great but it's not bad either. The bullpen is a lot of question marks but that's about it. I don't think seeing this team around 500 after the first couple months is crazy talk. I also think if that happens that Stearns is smart enough to not see this as a time to "go for it". Mark on the other hand...
  3. I'm not sure what to make of this. Unless I'm forgetting someone, every guy who's spilled the beans on supplying players has been proven correct. This guy, however, has said he lied about everything. Really interested to see what comes of this. I personally don't give two craps about PED's in any sport but I'm a huge Peyton Manning fan and he's really quickly gone to almost embarrassing lengths to try and prove his innocence.
  4. I agree with you and this is what you should have said without using the word idiots. Football is just less a of a time commitment than every other sport, therefore it's easier to follow and understand. Although, after having spent time with family over the last few days and been forced to listen to people who actually do pay pretty close attention to it, I'm not sure how true that is.
  5. It's never a good thing when people reading through these posts know exactly what name will appear next to the comment after reading. It's commonly referred to as a "broken record". That's you. Merry Christmas Funny. I was thinking the same thing when I saw that post.
  6. Well, jeez, with a history like that how can the Cards sign him in good conscience? That was a totally unclassy act. Molinia and Peralta are going to have to give him some lessons in how to be a good, upstanding citizen and role model for the children of Cardinal nation.
  7. But, will it be enough to keep him from getting the "hometown discount" from local STL establishments? What are all these references about? There have been a few in this thread.
  8. Can't we just let the guy play baseball? Whether you support him or not let's just move past all this non-sense and let him get back to becoming a better baseball player.
  9. Leake is getting market value. Pitching is expensive.
  10. For as much hate as Maldonado gets here for not hitting he still has plenty of defensive value. I can see him being moved just as likely as Lucroy is.
  11. The Red Sox are retiring Wade Bogg's number this season. Shouldn't that have been done by now?
  12. Good point about the instigator part. Him and McCann were the ring leaders in the Jared Fernandez and Carlos Gomez skirmishes. Although with Carlos gone it might be nice to have someone on the team with an edge to them.
  13. Nothing real ground breaking covered in that article other than the "multi-inning" reliever. I think in a few years we'll see more teams doing something similar. Your Kershaws and Greinkes are still going to go 7+ but your middle and back of the rotation starters are probably only going 3 or 4 innings before your multi-inning reliever takes over.
  14. I think the injuries have pretty much ended his usefulness. I have no problem picking up a guy for one year but I think there are better options out there. Heck, I think I would take a shot at Cliff Lee before Latos.
  15. This. The first year it took place in 2012 the Astros drafted Correa first overall. The value of that slot was $7.2 million. They got Correa to sign for $4.8 million. That allowed them to double the recommended bonus for the #41 pick Lance McCullers as well as Rio Ruiz and Brett Phillips. I just don't understand how this works. Say they passed on McCullers, Ruiz, and Phillips. Then they all get drafted lower and at a lower slot. Do they just not sign and try again next year. It's not like free agency where you can just keep offering more money to a guy to play for your team.
  16. No, no. One thousand times no.
  17. Not a bad signing money wise but Leake really isn't anything special. He's a #3 on most, #2 on some teams. I don't think he makes them much better at all. He feels like the Brewers signing of Lohse, Suppan, and Wolf that they are really just paying for health/innings and not getting anything great in terms of results.
  18. I think the answer is obvious on how to build. The question is how to maintain. Minus the Cubs, the teams we're talking about aren't going to be able to retain the good players they acquire and develop. I just read that Cain, Moustakas, Hosmer, Escobar, and Davis will all be free agents after the 2017 season. There is no way the Royals can keep all those guys around and they're losing Gordon. Yes, a few will be traded to replenish but trading away established stars for young players and prospects guarantees nothing - see the Greinke trade. Until some small market team can figure out how to keep their really good players until they're 31 or 32 the boom/bust, window theory, whatever you want to call it strategy is all you got.
  19. And except for last year, RHB destroy him. Smith in the rotation could turn into Kyle Lohse bad.
  20. I don't think anyone will trade for Ryan because they can never be 100% certain if they are getting Braun or Stearns.
  21. I'll see it at some point in my life. Really don't care if anyone "spoils" it for me.
  22. I don't know about Lucroy but I was wondering if they might have interest in Gennett since the Phillips trade is falling through. They could put together a nice little rotation/platoon at 2b and SS with Espinosa, Turner, and Gennett.
  23. No, that's just the type of BS that comes with insurance. All forms of insurance. It makes me shake my head at all the thousands of dollars I've spent on car insurance in my lifetime and have never once used it. Yes, I understand the "just in case" and all that jazz but unless I severely injure or kill someone with my car it's all wasted money I could have used for other things.
  24. I like how a thread about a Jason Rodgers trade turned into a discussion about Braun's defense. But, whatever, I'll add my two cents. Frankly, I don't care what the stats or eyes say about Braun's defense because he's not out there for his defense. His bat plays no matter how bad he is at whatever position they put him. The #1 priority should be playing him at the position that will keep him healthy. Having Ryan hurt kills this franchise whether they are trying to win games or trade him. Heck, the very best thing for the organization would be to tell Ryan to literally stand on first base and catch only balls that require minimal effort to catch. The team would lose more games and Ryan should stay healthy only having to move when he swings the bat.
  25. Braun is NOT a liability in the OF. he can play LF or RF (he's better in LF clearly). i don't care what nerdy analytics you can dig up to support what you're saying - use your eyes as well (my eyes are what tells me Davis has the worst corner OF arm i'll ever see in my life). and Khris Davis is NOT a legit bat. he has legit power and literally nothing else. while his BB rate rose this past season in fewer ABs his K rate rose. he's proved at this level not to be a high OBP guy, not to have an understanding of the strike zone, not to hit line to line, not to hit for a solid avg, not a contact hitter and has not showed any consistency whatsoever. he's had 3 months over the past 2 seasons that have resulted in the majority of his power numbers (best tool). and that doesn't even include his avg at best defense with brutal arm. yes, you're correct that now is the time to move him especially after his final 2 months last year. but not because it's when you can maximize the return rather he's the opposite of what this team is becoming and because room needs to be made for Santana in RF. Please, I beg people, stop relying on wOBA, WAR, etc. That's part of the evaluation process but too many people use it as the final say. There isn't 1 GM that would take Khris Davis over Alex Gordon. Davis also had a higher wOBA than Heyward too lol Again I reiterate my post about new members coming here and making combative posts. What is going on?
