  1. Barring his bat showing any semblance of life, if he's not traded during this current season, he has to be non-tendered next offseason. He really is of no use to the franchise in its current state. Arcia is the future and will be given every opportunity to be the SS. He's probably got a better glove than Gennett at 2B but Scooter out hits him. Maybe he could handle 3B but he bat plays even worse there. Even if you give him the utility infielder role he's an expensive bench player on a team that's going no where. It's about time to move on from him.
  2. Are you seriously suggesting that the Brewers could move to San Antonio if the they build an NFL stadium and the rebuild takes too long? There are so many things wrong with that but I'll just start by saying MLB wouldn't allow a franchise to move into a football stadium, no matter how new it is. That's not what I said. But if they land an NFL team, they'll have an NBA team and an NFL team and would only lack a MLB team. Given that the Astros and Rangers both reside now in the AL, it would make sense for MLB to desire an NL presence and for San Antonio to build a baseball stadium to attract a team to complete their ascension to big league. As for television market, they'd have not just San Antonio market, but nearby Austin/Round Rock as well with a metro population of 2 million and growing rapidly as well. A history lesson. The Boston Braves put their AAA team in Milwaukee, and when Milwaukee decided to build County Stadium to attract a big league team, Lou Perini, the Braves owner who was from Boston, got $ in his eyes as his floundering team was losing money in Boston. Had Perini not seen first hand what was going on in Milwaukee, then it's more likely the St. Louis Browns would have ended up here. That was a completely different era when the money is pro sports was minuscule compared to what it is now and the decisions of the league and teams was determined by personal vendettas and friendships. The reason the Browns didn't come to Milwaukee was more because of the league and many owner's hatred of Bill Veeck. A Brewers AAA team in San Antonio has as much bearing on the Brewers moving to San Antonio as a Brewers AAA team in Colorado Springs, or Nashville, or Indianapolis had on them moving the big league team to one of those cities.
  3. Except everyone handled that differently. Some remained Braves fans, still are to this day. Others embraced the Brewers when they came to town. Still others were put off by all of it, and pretty much moved away from following MLB. Unfortunately, many became Cubs fans and remain that way to this day.
  4. Are you seriously suggesting that the Brewers could move to San Antonio if the they build an NFL stadium and the rebuild takes too long? There are so many things wrong with that but I'll just start by saying MLB wouldn't allow a franchise to move into a football stadium, no matter how new it is. I thought he was talking about if they construct a AAA stadium they would leave room for expansion. Similar to another stadium(Portland) that allowed increase to temporarily hold an MLB team while a real stadium is built. I don't think anyone has a clue what he's trying to say. I took it as a minor league team in San Antonio would fail if they get an NFL team. Which makes zero sense since the minor league and NFL seasons overlap all of what, one week?
  5. How about Green Bay or Sheboygan (half serious)? Whatever happened to this Missions?
  6. That's what I was thinking. The real question is how well it translates to baseball. I would guess he would be a line drive doubles hitter at best, very little in terms of homeruns. I'm not sure if there is an equivalent of balls and strikes in cricket but that could be an issue. Or not since I think in cricket you often times hit the ball off the bounce. He could have a Vlad Guerrero approach at the plate. Defense might be an issue but that hasn't bothered this franchise before. I say go for it. Stearns might have discovered that world class cricket players are the new market inefficiency.
  7. Surprising that he went unclaimed and that he decided to stick around. There's plenty of other teams that could use him at least as an MLB backup and as long as Lucroy is in Milwaukee, Pinto is going to see very little of the MLB field. Maybe he or his agent was told Lucroy will almost certainly be gone come opening day.
  8. After talking to an AD and WIAA official about this, it is only a re-emphasis of rules that already exist. So like most things, the media has blown out of proportion and gotten people riled up over something that is a non-story.
  9. This has absolutely nothing to do with hurting kids feelings. I'd guess these chants don't bother 99% of the players' feelings or do they even hear them during the game. This stuff pretty much only happens during basketball and volleyball games. What would the reaction be if the fans at a high school baseball game started chanting "error" after a kid boots a ground ball or "Who's your daddy" after a pitcher gets rocked?
  10. Really it comes down to CF. Do they want a "true" CF or are they comfortable with Santana there? If they are comfortable with Santana then him, Braun, and Davis are the OF with Broxton, Young, or Niewenheus on the bench as the "defensive" CF and Peterson and backup corner OF and 1B. If they want defense in CF then I think Santana is headed to AAA.
  11. I think we all agree that from a legal perspective very bad things were done. However, whatever MLB decides to do is new territory as nothing like this has happened before. There will be very little PR pressure to do anything drastic unlike PED or domestic violence issues. I bet the only places where there is any sort of fan outrage is here on BF.net, Houston, and the small pockets of die hard Cubs fans. Ultimately there just isn't the outside pressure to force MLB to really do anything about this. Correa will be banned for life and the Cards lose one 1st round draft pick or some international bonus money, if that.
  12. I'll all against the wussification of sports but I've never been a fan of these negative chants in high school sports. These are kids, show some sportsmanship and support your kids while not putting down the opponent.
  13. People keep saying that but for a catcher of Lucroy's caliber I doubt any team hesitates to make that move. Is his performance going to out weigh the drop in performance for the pitching staff? It's going to be an adjustment period to learn all the new starters & RPs, how to best call a game for them, how pitches break, and etc. It is not an easy transition as you need to learn a whole new staff. If your catcher can't hit a lick and is nothing special defensively you make that move. Luc's a professional, the pitchers are professionals. They'll figure it out. If it's a NL team Lucroy's already knows the scouting reports on those guys as a hitter. I think way too much is made about figuring out a pitching staff, especially when in today's game pitching is just throw fastball really hard and breaking ball with 2 strikes.
  14. I didn't know either. Surprising he could keep that quiet for a year and a half.
  15. People keep saying that but for a catcher of Lucroy's caliber I doubt any team hesitates to make that move.
  16. Huge for what, at best a 75 win team? He's not getting any younger and skills will diminish rapidly every day over 30. Pair that with concussions and now is the time to move him if we want to get a good return. Even waiting 1/2 way through the season could be a bust if he's not hitting well again (I know what his last couple months stats were). He's advocating to trade Lucroy. I think you misunderstood that.
  17. The only reason Oswaldo Arcia is even being discussed is because he is Orlando's brother. He's a lesser version of Khris Davis and doesn't really add much to our already very deep outfield situation.
  18. So would he have voted for admitted the spit ballers and ball-doctorers that are in the Hall? Writers need to get off their high horses and vote for stat lines, not the names attached to them.
  19. If he hits under .200 like he did for most of last year (I know he did, I had him on a fantasy team till the all star break waiting for him to turn it around and he didn't until late August) then his OBP is around .300. But he is what he is and next year is what it is too.
  20. Even though Villar is one of Stearns guys and Segura is borderline terrible, there's no way he's not in the opening day lineup if healthy.
  21. Griffey forced a trade to the team of his choosing and ended his career by sleeping in the clubhouse. Where's the integrity in that?
  22. Such the double standard for PEDs in football vs baseball. After watching two weeks of Packers games since this thing came out I have yet to hear a peep about it during the game despite the Packers having 3 players named.
  23. It totally depends on what you call successful. The Packers have had a HoF QB at the helm for 23 seasons and we have only made it to 3 Super Bowls and won 2. Every year we don't win the Super Bowl is a year closer to having an Anthony Dilweg of the world as our QB. Now I don't go as far as wanting Thompson and McCarthy fired, but every year we don't win the Super Bowl is a disappointment to me. I'm very thankful I'm not a fan of Cleveland, Detroit, or Oakland. But with the cards we have been dealt, I would be thoroughly disappointed if the Farve/Rodgers era ends with only 2 Super Bowl wins. In those 23 years you speak of only New England (4) and Dallas (3) have won more Super Bowls than the Packers and Dallas was at the beginning of the 23 years. Only New England (7) and Pittsburgh (4) have been to more Super Bowls. Green Bay has been an elite NFL franchise for a quarter century. While more Super Bowl wins and appearances would be awesome you can't win it every year no matter how good your team is.
