  1. Garza is probably the opening day starter, isn't he? There is no clear cut ace in the rotation and typically the manager goes with the "veteran gamer" in that situation, which is Garza. Putting him in the bullpen would just be stupid. The team isn't winning anything next year, so who cares how he performs. If he does well in the rotation he gets traded, if he fails he gets released. Bullpen should not even be a consideration.
  2. Now we can stop that ridiculous talk about him taking a "hometown discount" to play for the Brewers.
  3. Why not take a chance? He's in his prime. He'll be cheaper than any worthwhile free agent. He won't cost any prospects or a draft pick. Any 3B currently in the system is still years away so he's not blocking anyone.
  4. If Gennett plays only against RHP his OPS (just a tad under .800) is upper third among 2B in baseball. His bat is good when used correctly. Sure, positional flexibility is great but his bat plays. And it better play over Villar and his career .652 OPS.
  5. The guys at the low minor league levels do what they are told. I'm more concerned with convincing the players that are on the 40-man or at least at the "spring training invite" level. I don't think it would be that easy with them and very few (if any) ML pitching staffs are made up of guys that predominantly came through the parent club system. So, the big job would be convincing players that came over in trades or potential FAs that it made sense. Fringe guys wouldn't matter, because they would likely just be happy to have a job. But teams don't win with a bunch of fringe guys. I agree about established guys having issues with it but it's not like any worthwhile free agent pitcher is coming to Milwaukee anyway. The fringe guys is where there would be value. If you can take a guy who's generally a back of the rotation guy and have him put up #2 or #3 rate stats because of your system on the cheap that's a huge advantage. You might even have those fringe guys take less to come here because they know their numbers will look better and they might be able to get more money next time they are free agents. You might even be able to get more trade value out of them. There's no reason not to try something like this. The Brewers don't really have any surefire frontline pitching prospects and this team isn't going to be winning anything for a couple years. If you're going to lose, you might as well lose while trying something different than doing the same old thing.
  6. I don't think it would be tough to get young pitchers to buy into it because that's how they do it in the low minors. Starters below AA rarely go more than 5 or 6 innings. If you continue doing it through AA and AAA it would be old hat for them to do it in the majors. The Pirates started their shifting experiment with their minor league teams and once they saw how well it worked they implemented it in the majors. Eventually some organization will do this with their minor league teams and then we'll see if it works.
  7. Hellweg has shown no ability to find the plate and Schafer provides less than zero offense. No loss for either of them. I'm actually glad to see Logan not a Brewer anymore. The previous regime had an unhealthy love of him.
  8. Jericho on Lind extension.... I guess you want Mark Reynolds/Overbay, Juan Francisco/A.Gonzalez/Y. Betancourt/Maldonado types to cover 1b until you believe the team will compete again with whomever plays 1b somewhere in between Lind/Hart value and the others above. I'll take the known commodity and extend him until theres the future. Lind's removal means having no known 1b of his ability. Learn from the mistakes. As this is a team in rebuild, it can always trade Lind away when some true heir apparent appears. TPlush on Lucroy trade.... A nice package and being blown away I think is close probably in both what you and I would take in Lucroy. I may have an added grade to the final prospect we get over yours but the first piece is likely the same. Lucroy's contract is so cheap, I don't see his trade value declining regardless of performance. Health would be the concern only. Brew4u on Lind comment This concern on age. He's Braun's age who keeps being penciled in as 1b to become. So we'll take Braun at the same age through 2020 but Lind we must rid of by 2016 season close.? Find me the next 1b that's going to produce at a .797OPS as Lind has for his career and I'll be comfortable with departing with him. We're so quick to trade away Lind/Lucroy in opinion and my issue is two major positions filled with +positive players removed only opens a big hole to fill once again at both positions. 1b to me is a big position that needs to be filled with a big bat. That's why I'd rather extend Lind. His bat at this moment isn't filled. Lucroy I'd give up easier but again on a blown away trade offer. See, I actually believe he's very good. I'm not concerned about his future performance, he'll be fine and a good producer. The fear is for him to be terrible. Probably because of recent history of the Marcum's, Suppan's, Lohse et al. I'm not voicing to extend him. But believe we'll find a trade partner with a killer offer between now and the 2017 Trade deadline. Just know we don't have a catcher who'll perform 1WAR on the team as Lucroy did on this terrible season of his. There isn't one in the pipelines. Given Lind's injury history and lack of success against LHP, a 35 year old Lind is probably the same as those guys you list. I'd rather go with the younger, cheaper, more athletic, and probably better defensive player. And that isn't Adam Lind. I love watching the guy hit. He's the type of hitter this team has lacked for over a decade but unless he can somehow get 4 years younger he doesn't have a place in the future of this organization.
  9. Stearns is going to get at least one guy from the Astros. That's a guarantee right?
  10. [sarcasm]So the law that says you have to have insurance doesn't include deer as well?[/sarcasm]
  11. My degree is in Graphic Design but most "Design" positions require more than design and are more marketing and web design orientated. Which I actually have a fair bit of marketing and sales experience, especially compared to other designers. However, I have very little web design experience and a lot of employers want that but I have no interest in learning it. I've tried, it's frustrating, and I hate it. Overall though, I really don't know what I'm looking for. I've liked what I've done so far but I haven't loved it. There are a couple different fields I think I would enjoy but they would require a move which would make no sense for us right now. Asking my wife to leave her job would not make any financial sense and she actually loves her job. I've got some freelance clients that were bringing in decent money for a little while. But my biggest one decided they would rather hire an expensive marketing firm which I can't believe is saving them any money. I also have a somewhat successful online business. My wife and I are expecting in Spring and I think ultimately I'll just end up staying at home with the baby since it will cost less than paying for child care.
  12. Lind will be mid-30's by the time this team competes. Signing him long term would be stupid.
  13. That deal two is maybe one of the worst seriously proposed trades I've ever seen. Those 3 guys wouldn't get Seager alone and I don't know why you keep mentioning salary relief since the 3 guys they are trading make less than the guys they are acquiring.
  14. Last time Brewers did so... If I remember correctly, Ford actually looked serviceable (at least better than Wang did) and then got the mysterious "I've been active long enough to be retained and now I can get hurt" injury and was never heard from again. Cruz was just all around bad.
  15. If the Brewers have selected a player and he is on the 40 already, then I don't see how the Tigers "may" get a PTBNL back. The only two options I can see is: 1. The player is exposed to the Rule 5 and if selected by someone, the brewers have a list of alternates. I suppose that list could include players on or off the 40 man roster. That would explain why the Tigers could get a PTBNL back if the Brewers get a 40 man roster player with more value 2. The Brewers and Tigers could not agree on a player at the time of the trade and will work it out later. As speculated by this article: http://www.blessyouboys.com/2015/11/18/9755760/francisco-rodriguez-detroit-tigers-trade-javier-betancourt, there are two lists of players, one of which would net a return player to the tigers. It could include players on or off the 40 man and still could be impacted by the Rule 5 draft. It's fun to speculate on this. I'm hoping we get Labourt. Maybe it will be Marte to fill the 3b spot. When this trade first happened, MLBTradeRumors reported that both teams were getting a PTBNL. I was surprised this was never talked about here.
  16. Not sure what difference having 2 months of a job that I was still being trained for at the end on my resume will make. Also not looking forward to having to explain in interviews that with the only two "real" jobs I've ever had, the business closed a few months after I was hired.
  17. Seems that wasn't the case this time. Though I don't live right on the lake, but pretty close. We live just north of the system. Nothing fell from the sky. No rain, no snow, nothing. Has nothing to do with the lake though.
  18. Doesn't a PTBNL have to be on the 40 man roster at the time of the trade?
  19. I read that it's very probable that in-market games will be available on MLB.tv next year. That would be huge. Also, is there anything more stupid than these Esurance awards they are giving out for social media crap. Give me a break.
  20. As is usually the case with the first snowfall of the year, I'm guessing us that live on the lake will have next to nothing on the ground in the morning.
  21. So the epilogue to my previously posted about job situation. I actually got it and started there about 2 months ago. I was so excited to get out of somewhere I did not want to be anymore and work somewhere where I got to do things I liked and work with awesome people. Today they told us they are closing at the end of the month. My never ending job search continues.
  22. Just read that Flores might not be ready for the start of 2016 due to a broken leg. Also saw that he played a lot of 1B in the minors.
  23. So he's acquired two guys who are fringey major leaguers that have to be on the 25 man roster this season for two guys that don't. That doesn't really make sense to me.
  24. I generally use part of the question as my answer so I can remember what my answer is. But, yes, security questions are really stupid. PS: Please don't use this information to try and hack into any of my accounts.
  25. Villar is so redundant from what is already on the roster and is out of options so he has to make the team. Segura, Gennett, Herrera, Sardinas...one of those guys is almost certainly gone, right?
